View Full Version : Well, I'm finally done with this place...

Congratulations.
I thoroughly enjoy political discourse but that is no longer what this place is about. It's all about your snarky little gang trying to irritate and snipe like a gang of juvenile delinquents and then slapping yourselves on the back about how witty you are all the while running and hiding from real discourse behind whining claims of "straw men" and stupid demands for links to links to links that get posted.
I recognize that every political forum has its idiots or just bumfucking crazy people like Boutons, but when the seemingly sane people get caught up in this crap as well it's really depressing and this place has turned into a total waste of time.
Chump? You win Charlie Sheen...You get the award for pompously thinking you are really putting it to people while just coming off as a snarky little bitch that wants to aggravate people...congratulations...you succeeded...You used to be better than that and occasionally brought substantive takes...what happened?
The rest of you? Winehole?...you seem like a smart guy but again the desire to impress your gang with your witty snitty insults drowns out the quality you used to bring to the forum...
Clambake? Whatever happened to just talking politics and bouncing differing opinions off each other?...are you just trying to impress Chump and the rest of the little gang?
I could go on...there are a lot of other quality posters that have jumped on the snark bandwagon plus the hanger on third stringers that it's just no fun in here anymore. There are a lot of you guys I'm sure I would like in person and I actually think you guys would like me too, but I'm done.
I'm sure there will be high fives all around and victory declarations and snarky comments about me slinking off with my butthurt so knock yourselves out...that's what this place has become...and quite honestly I don't need the aggravation and refuse to waste any more time in here...
Maybe we can even get Kori to change the name of the forum to something more appropriate like the Charlie Sheen Winners Club...enjoy the forum you have ruined...

I thoroughly enjoy political discourse but that is no longer what this place is about. when people routinely call you on stuff you basically either make up or Fwd from mailing lists, and turn the smugness and snark around on you -- who have been lacking for neither here at any time -- I can see how that would make your experience here somewhat less enjoyable.
ain't it awful? people are so mean!Sorry I've disappointed you, CosmicCowboy.
without your admonitions relating to the chronically inferior quality of posters besides yourself and the anointed few -- whomever they are and to whom we may attribute the intelligence, humanity and high standards of quality and mature narrative that formerly prevailed here -- we will be very unlikely now to detect that inferiority. happily for our sakes, you have just emphasized it strongly.
anyway, enjoy your time elsewhere! hope you come back, someday.

to me, that is hilarious. it's like having a beauty contest between a hyena and a warthog.
the mature, sober, reflective qualities which are allegedly missing in this forum, are equally missing in the all bitchy submissions related to the general lack of quality. at any rate, genteel, adult conversation has never been typical here, but has not been totally absent either, during the relatively brief period of my participation here.

for example, WC mostly doesn't notice whenever I agree with him; indeed, usually he responds defensively to attempted agreement.

Allegedly CC's decision to quit the forum is similar, but I'm not seeing it. CC's basically a big bully who got tired of the shoe being on the other foot. It's understandable that the sheer volume of weak posting yielded eventually to loud complaints about the boorishness of his critics...

This has always been a place for all political views to express their opinions. Yes, there are far right and far left fanatics who post up in here but it isn't hard to address the serious responses and the trolling.
While I disagree with some of CC's stances politically and sometimes morally to take things to a personal level, which it would have to be for a person to leave the this forum, is totally uncalled for and just shows ignorance, IMHO.

Crookshanks isn't the friendliest poster herself, it is true, but sometimes even I am taken aback by how hard other posters other posters strain to be personally insulting and vulgar to her, nearly every time she posts here.
clambake just called her sewage, MaNuMaNiAc called her impenetrably dumb...

Bottom line is that reality bites, as one sees it. Discussion in an open minded forum is very healthy, IMHO. When one views another in a negative way simply because of their beliefs it is a fomula for disaster. CC has always made his point of view quite clear. His responses and threads reflect that quite clearly.
CC makes very solid points that do make one look in the mirror but that also opens him up to criticism and opinionated responses which is what forums are all about. Give and take is the norm.

I just thought I would shake things up a bit. I'm pretty mush typical in my fiscal conservative views and am socially libertarian. Just because I refuse to be politically correct, I am dubbed extreme?
Let me ask you something. If NY raises taxes of the rich, how many of them do you think will seek legal residency in some other state they own property in, and deny NY of their taxes? I think NY will lose revenue rather than gain it. The liberal thought is such the wealthy and businesses dry for tax revenue, then wonder why businesses and the wealthy move elsewhere, or overseas.

Methinks it's much harder to keep a conversation civil under the blanket of anonymity. tbh fwiw imho iirc There's something about interpersonal interactions. They foster a healthy level of respect for other parties.
Meeting some of the posters here has helped me understand how their life experiences have shaped their views. It not something easily conveyed on a keyboard (I'd go so far as to say that it's impossible).

The truth is only insulting to those that are unaware its the truth. Shanks is permanently unaware of anything resembling reason. In other words, yes I had an inkling she might feel insulted.
Guilty as charged sir.
Interesting how she's never aware of how she insults others but is always acutely aware of feeling insulted herself. I guess other people must take the more direct, obvious approach :lol

In this particular case, though, I'm more amused/confused by the suggestion that the lack of civility 'round these parts is at all sudden or has become markedly worse in recent months (or that the MLK thread was a big enough straw to have finally sent the camel to traction) than I am by the general observation that people can be asshats in here.

Speaking as someone who's attacked others more often than I'd like, I can honestly say that I have a tolerance limit of how much of this forum I can take. There are very few posters that actually listen to people and have the decency and open-mindedness to admit when they are wrong, or even the greater step of changing their mind about something. I would like to think that I am that way most of the time, but in reality it's pretty rare that I have actually given active thought while browsing this forum, especially more recently when posters for the most part seem even more diametrically opposed regarding corporations vs. individual rights/etc.
There's a point I feel to which posting here becomes superfluous. If I wade through 15 pages of a topic and I see a couple of posters constantly bringing up tired rhetoric that has already been dismissed as completely exaggerated, or worse, blatantly untrue, and they stick to that logic despite having demonstrable evidence to the contrary... well, I just shake my head and wonder what the point is. It's frustrating to no end to put real effort into a post only to have it shouted down by someone presenting an argument that holds no water, or isn't even relevant. I can't remember the last time I clicked on this forum hoping to find actual rational discourse, because it just doesn't exist, or if it does, it's just a misnomer.
CC and WC, I do apologize for my attacks on you. They were uncalled for and borne out of frustration with the perception I had that you were in those cases unable to consider another viewpoint, not out of dislike for you as individuals.
That said, I do feel that this forum has become largely a waste of time, because too often sound arguments with sources and references fall on deaf ears to the drum beat of the prevailing party, whether it be Democrat or Republican. I wish it wasn't such an accurate reflection of the current state of politics, but it is what it is.

I agree with Cosmic Cowboy. This forum used to be a lot more interesting; and even when I didn't agree with something, I still found the dialog civil and sometimes informative. Now, it's nothing more than a bunch of diehard libs crapping all over anyone who doesn't share their views. People are rude, crude and sometimes downright disgusting. You've driven away most of the conservative posters - so I guess you guys win and the political forum is just a place for libs to meet and talk.
This is a pretty astute microcosm of the forum. To paraphrase: "This forum used to be so kind and inviting for people to post before you stupid ignorant assholes of a different political ideagogue from myself destroyed it for my fellow 'team' members I march in lockstep with on every single political or moral issue, who have never ever said anything out of line and only insulted you in the first place because you deserved it for being sinning heathens."

Get over this whining and just post and voice your opinions and to hell with everything else. I for one am not solely on the left or the right of all issues. I'm a conservative progressive.
If you were to see how I attempt to run my home you would think I am a staunch conservative but I'm not. I run a strict home but am progressive in my political views. Odd but it is what it is.

Stay here long enough you'll see plenty of decent posters leave....many eventually come back as an alternative avatar, a few never do, but someone else always comes in and fills the gaps left behind....we very rarely lack for alternative views in this forum and perhaps that helps to contribute to its dysfunctional state at times. The Political Forum was never meant to be a permanent forum here at Spurs talk...it was created more or less as a joke...but something unexpected happen...for a time, the Political Forum became the number one forum at Spurs talk......and that was with only about 15-20 semi-regular posters...today this forum has between 30-50 regular to semi-regular posters and nearly a half millions posts, we attracted the highest numbers of vistors on a day at over 6500...the joke it seems, had turned on all of us..

I happen to not take anything here seriously because everyone is suspect as a troll, or their posts are suspect as trolls.
