Yup, teams are closing out on him now, and rather than take it to the rack he's giving it up. Ugh.

This happened last year too. He started off incredibly well to begin the 2010-2011 season with the game winner against the Suns being the peak.

Hes shown some signs of contributing in other areas though.. so hopefully he keeps that stuff up. (Hustling and playing hard on D, rebounding well, improvement on his shooting form.)

10 assists the past two games, Im all for hating Dick when its justified but thats not terribly bad. It wouldve been unrealistic of us to expect him to shoot 60% from deep alll season long. A bad streak was bound to happen, if he keeps having these bad shooting nights than we can say Dick is back. For some reason Im actually expecting him to bounce back though.

I'm holding out for Ron Mercer, tbh.

Did ANYONE expect any different? I mean year after year it's the same shyt so it will not change with him. I wish he was off the team personally.

You what it means when RJ gets 5 assists? That he swung the ball around the perimeter and someone made a jump shot. He didn't create.

Its not BAD in the least, but its not the same as Manu or Tony getting an assists from penetration and creating a shot. In fact, many of those assits that RJ has gotten probably were created by Tony Parker initially drawing in the D.

The problem with Jefferson is when he is not scoring, you don't even notice that he is playing. He has no impact on the game outside of his 3's. When Green is in the game, he is blocking shots, deflecting balls and doing the little things to help the team win. I wish Pop would have RJ come off the bench.

Whenever he plays well he comes back down to earth, ie. it's all an illusion! ... we've had two years of this... He'd be better off on a team that not contending, where he can play his inconsistent, seemingly unmotivated, game.

I would trade Bonner for Steve Smith, not even trying to be sarcastic here.

I've kept some hope alive, because RJ was at least playing with some heart. Tonight he was back to Limp Dick.

It's too soon to say if he's back to his old ways. Although he isn't scoring, he's helping in other areas. When he stops contributing period, then this thread is viable.

The most embarrassing part of the game was when Shane Battier bullied RJ so hardcore that he stopped trying and started passing the ball to Pop.

He was literally scared. If that's all it takes to turn RJ into a bum...

Imagine had Lebron not "heat checked" and actually ran a play, they would have run 30 straight on us.

I guess that's one way to get a practice session in if you're Pop.

A possible answer to RJ's suckiness, should it continue. Move Anderson up in the rotation. Divvy up RJ's minutes between Anderson, Neal and Leonard.

Anderson needs to show he can shoot a basket. If you think Neal is in a bad slump, Anderson has been worse.

May be, but Anderson isn't hardly the poor defender that Neal is - and he's got considerably more length.

Neal is somewhat the backcourt version of Bonner. A one-trick pony, who, if he's not hitting his 3-pt shots, he's really of very little use.

ElNono
01-18-2012, 12:51 AM
I've seen Neal hit shots. All I've seen from Anderson so far is "potential".

Neal might be a poor NBA player. Right now, I'm not even sure Anderson is an NBA player at all.

Hope he improves though, because we sure as heck need him.

SenorSpur
01-18-2012, 12:56 AM
Neal is playing poorly, but it doesn't appear that he's lost his confidence nor his desire to jack up ill-advised shots. The telltale characteristic of a shooter. Anderson is certainly someone playing without confidence.

I think you meant to say Anderson is hardly the poor defender that Neal is. If he isn't this then he's the opposite of being hardly the poor defender Neal is.

Make sense?

:lol

Speaking of defending, I haven't witnessed much of that from Anderson yet, either. At least with Neal you know what you got in the bank.

The sooner RJ comes off the bench, the better. It's the obvious endgame to this situation.

RJ is basically Neal minus competitive spirit plus the ability to defend when he's not intimidated by his opponent ... which is about half the time.

SenorSpur
01-18-2012, 01:07 AM
It sure seems that way. Even when Manu returns, Pop will have a decision to make. Return Leonard to the bench or banish RJ there. If the answer wasn't already obvious before this game versus the Heat, it is now. RJ is clearly BACK in playoff form.

Jefferson plays like a backup. He has the physical tools to do more, but he just doesn't. If all he has become is a 3-point shooter, then he shouldn't start.

You compare that to Kawhi's last 5 games

Last 5 Games 5 3 34.6 0.569 0.500 0.714 2.0 4.8 6.8 1.2 1.8 0.8 13.2
And you know whose finishing the season as our main SF

RJ was finding a groove with TJ Ford and the second unit. He needs Manu and TJ healthy to play his best.

I had slight hopes about RJ playing well enough with Manu out, that a team would have done a trade for him at the deadline. It surely looks like it won't happen.

The plan B should be to amnesty him next summer and, frankly, it isn't a that bad plan. Spurs will have then a lot of capspace next summer to add a quality player. Amnestying RJ is better than doing a bad trade with him.

If Kawhi and Green continue to play well, I want that Pop put RJ at the end of the bench when Manu will be back. If RJ isn't fine with that and start complaining about it, just tell him "stay away from the team until July when we will amnesty you". At that point, it's the best to do with him.

Forget RJ's offense, look at how bad his D is right now (other than the big block on Lowry in the Houston game). Lebron and Jax ran all over his ass. Pathetic effort on D.

I saw this coming ever since he started driving the ball into the paint; he messed up his rhythm. He is strictly a catch and shoot player now; anytime he decides not to shoot a 3, he should be benched...

RJ started off hot last year and started to cool as the season progressed. Looks like he's cooling off faster this year. At least Leonard & Green are stepping up their game. Would be great to deal RJ for a big but he'll need to get red hot before the deadline to be tradeable.

With doing nothing to get a bigman and willingness to only offer R.Bulter a two-year contract, I guess, the Spurs FO would just wait for the retirement of Duncan and then rebuild the team instead of using capspace to sign a big contract.
A not-big-enough move wouldn't make the Spurs a contender. Maybe keeping money and just waiting the retirement of Duncan and then rebuilt is the best way for the Spurs in the long-term.

RJ should not be allowed in uniform.

James Anderson is playing like garbage right now but I'd rather him get minutes than RJ.

Move Green to start, play Neal and Anderson off the bench. Problem solved.
