I wouldn't mind him, but I don't see how he fits, unless he agrees to be a relief pitcher...
I would rather them continue starting Harrison, he has some good stuff, and is still pretty young. He probably isn't true ace material, but I think he could be close to what CJ was able to accomplish, which is still pretty good.

The only reason, if they sign Oswalt, would be possibly trading some of their starting pitching down the road.

Yeah, but who? And what would they get in return?
I think they would still be better off just utilizing the young pitchers they have.

Report: Free agent Roy Oswalt wants to pitch for either Rangers or Cardinals

As Gerry Fraley reported on Jan. 12 (http://rangersblog.dallasnews.com/archives/2012/01/roy-oswalt-on-rangers-radar-ry.html) , the Rangers have been in the market for free agent pitcher Roy Oswalt (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Roy_Oswalt), regardless of their ability to sign Yu Darvish (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Yu_Darvish) . With Darvish sealed and Prince Fielder (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Prince_Fielder) acquired by Detroit, the eyes of the off-season observers turn to Oswalt.
Roy Oswalt wants to play for either the Rangers or the St. Louis Cardinals (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/St._Louis_Cardinals) next year, according to a report for Fox Sports' Ken Rosenthal (http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/Roy-Oswalt-mlb-hot-stove-Rangers-Cardinals-Red-Sox-Nationals-Indians-market-012512).
"The Rangers, in the view of some executives, are the favorites to land Oswalt, even though they already have six starting pitchers, including right-hander Alexi Ogando (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Alexi_Ogando), who could move to the bullpen," Rosenthal wrote.
Oswalt, 34, had spent the majority of his career with the Houston Astros (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Houston_Astros), where he was twice a 20-game winner and finished in the top five for the NL Cy Young (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Cy_Young) voting five times. But injuries caught up with Oswalt last year, when he missed 10 starts due to back problems while with the Phillies (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Philadelphia_Phillies).
Though Oswalt was reportedly seeking a multi-year deal earlier in the off-season, a cool reception on the free agent market has reportedly left him willing to accept a one-year contract.
According to Joe Strauss of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch (https://twitter.com/#%21/JoeStrauss/status/162370410741112834), the Cardinals made a one-year offer that approached $5 million to Oswalt several weeks ago, though Strauss predicted the Rangers would eventually win the bidding for Oswalt with a deal that guaranteed $2 million to $3 million more.
The Rangers already have an overcrowded starting rotation after signing Yu Darvish and moving Neftali Feliz (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Neftali_Feliz) into a starter's role next season. The club is going to have to move one of its starters from 2011 back into the bullpen, with Ogando being the most likely candidate.
But if the Rangers sign Oswalt with the intention of inserting him into the rotation, they would need to bump yet another starter into a relief role. The most obvious choice would be 26-year-old Matt Harrison (http://topics.dallasnews.com/topic/Matt_Harrison), who posted a 3.39 ERA and 126 strikeouts in 185 2/3 innings last year.
In 139 innings with the Phillies, Oswalt owned a 3.69 ERA and 93 strikeouts.

Good question. Maybe Harrison. I know they been trying to move Uehara, but tbh, I don't see the need for Oswalt.

He's nice and all but I'd rather develop our young guys. If he wants to be a bullpen guy then I'm okay with it.

Why?
Looks like Oswalt is going to the Cardinals, according to a couple of sources.

Good, don't really want him here because Harrison needs to stay in the rotation.

I have no problem with them sigining Oswalt. He's on the down side of his career but its easier to find bats than it is pitching and adding a vet to the roster wouldn't hurt. You know as long as it doesn't hinder the young guys. Seven to ten starts shouldn't be a problem. Even if he's only here for one year.
