They used their news quota for the 2012-2013 season during the 2011-2012 season. I mean you had the "fuk yo team" GS trade, then Diaw and Mills signing. Plus you had Pop getting COY and having to give a press conference.

At this point we're going to be notified by the concessions stand people on opening night before the Spurs leak something

Trade Manu for a defensive minded big then sign someone like JR Smith or Nick Young to take over our SG duties

Russo21

Or trade Tony for a defensive big and sign a servicable PG like Raymond Felton, Andre Miller or someone. Felton isnt flash but gets the job done and is very steady.

Are Chris caveman Kamaan and Kris frankenstein Humphries unrestricted? Humphries averaged 14pts 11reb a block and a steal last year. They should try get one of them. Though Kris will think hes worth more money then he is. Is Ilyasova unrestricted? He'd be a solid option.

Question: Have the Spurs ever signed someone using the LLE (or what is now known as the BAE)?

They definitely have not used it since the implementation of the 2005 CBA. I'm not sure if they used an earlier version of the BAE (I believe it was referred to as the "million dollar exception") under earlier CBAs.

Rondo and Millsap were picked later on in the draft, but other than guessing right on one of those guys, the other guys they had available to pick didn't exactly set the world on fire either. Balkman, Lowry, Shannon Brown, and Farmar are probably the best of the remainder, and none of those guys are with their original teams either.

Veteran shooting guard Raja Bell told The Salt Lake Tribune on Sunday he's reached a verbal agreement with Utah for a buyout of his 2012-13 contract. Once the deal is formalized, Bell expects to be free to sign with any team in the league.

"I've been given the greenlight and we've agreed to terms," said Bell, who's set to make $3.4 million this season.

A message left for Jazz General Manger Kevin O'Connor wasn't immediately returned.

Bell's already drawn interest from several clubs since free agency began July 1, and he acknowledged teams such as Miami, Boston and the Los Angeles Lakers are interesting to him. He would not specify which organizations have recently shown interest, though, since his buyout had previously not been made public and he wants to respect the Jazz's role in the process.

Gortat gets pay 7.3 for the next 2 seasons, he's 6'11", 240 lbs, 28 yrs old, 15.4 ppg, 10 rpg and 1.5 bpr, what else do we need from a C. We need to this right now, before somebody else puts a package together. We can still find a PF, but we need to pick this guy for our short and long term goals.

If we are trying to get better in our interior D, then we need some shot blocking guys. I believe this two guys can help to that cause, C Bismack Biyombo from Charlotte - Yes hes a 6'9", but different than our 6'9"s hes a blocker, only 19 yrs old and gets pay 2.9 for the next 3 yrs, then we got PF Ekpe Udoh from the Bucks - Hes 6'10", 25 yrs old, and gets pay 3.5 the next 2 yrs. Cheap, young and not big names, the reason why these guys get overlook is because we dont ever see any highlights from those teams, just like last year when we went deep in the playoff and a lot of people didnt even knew about how good TP played this past year and about Leonard, just cause they dont have a big name does mean this guys can get the job done on the D side.

I think they said Hibbert won't sign an offer sheet. He will just accept an offer directly from Indy for the same amount (possibly with a fully unguaranteed 5th year) which will allow them to make their other FA moves and then sign Roy.

Definitely - but with Blair being a very productive starter with a cheap contract and getting invited to Olympic training, you would think someone would value him.

I don't blame the Pacers for the Hill trade (I mean, ya they paid Hill a lot, but the assets they gave up had a decent shot of not working out), but this one you cannot defend unless Ian turns into what we hoped he was here :lol

Just heard the Wolves are going to amnesty Darko to mate. I'd love to pick him up. He is massive. He'd be the biggest guy on our roster by far. In 2011 he averaged 9 points 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. He's 7 foot 275lbs. Could be a very good rebounding and defensive presence. He is only 27 years old and has never been mentoured by someone like Mr Duncan. His game could pick up learning from Timmy. He'd be a solid option. Gimme gimme gimme.

It's "Hoopsworld" so take it for what its worth.

In pertinent part:

"Sixers Interested in DeJuan Blair: DeJuan Blair is on the outside of the Spurs plans looking in, and word is the Philadelphia 76ers would love to have him as a possible replacement for Elton Brand.

Blair is owed roughly $1 million for next season and has grown frustrated with the Spurs. For the last two years Blair played a role in the regular season, only to find himself anchored to the bench in the playoffs.

The Spurs explored trading Blair in and around the draft but could not consummate a deal. Blair has told those around him he expected to be moved and with teams like Philly having real interest, a deal seems probable."

While I somewhat agree with your take on Lin, I have to say that I see how he could feel disrespected by the Knicks as well. He feels that he played well enough to earn the starting position - yet his team was out chasing Nash, Kidd, etc. instead of trying to sign him to a long term deal first. At least it appears that the Spurs focused on Green first and showed that they highly valued his role on the team - and I'm also glad that Green accepted a reasonable (comparatively speaking) contract.

I don't get Anger at Lin. He's worth so much financially to the Knicks, and with how he played, he's probably close to that value, especially in New York. He should get paid a portion of what he's worth, as he can only get a small portion.

This decision not to match Linn is odd. Part on me thinks they want to humble the guy a bit and remind him who is running the show, while at the same time tempering expectations in the fan base. Sure the Knicks traded for Felton, but its not like he or an aging Kidd are far superior options. Something is rotten in the state of Denmark...

Blatche was shot during a carjacking attempt in September 2005, was arrested in 2007 for soliciting sex from an undercover police officer and suspended for a game in December 2010 for brawling with teammate JaVale McGee outside a Washington nightclub.

He also clashed with coaches. In January 2010, then-coach Flip Saunders suspended him for a game after he was belligerent with the coaching staff.

At last season's home opener, Blatche addressed the crowd by saying: "This is your captain, Andray Blatche," and after the game complained there weren't enough plays being run for him.

Add me to the folks interested in Leuer.

Mel_13, how does the waiver process differ here than in the amnesty context? Can only cap space teams bid, same 48 hour window, etc.?

There's no bidding, although there is some sort of claim order. You have to be able to take the whole contract on to your payroll by the rules of the CBA.

Ya'll say we have plenty of point guards but are Patty Mills, Nando De Colo, or Cory Joseph 100% legit backups? I don't buy into the rumor either, but it's not all that crazy to me.

Tony Parker - Bo McCalebb - Cory Joseph (D-League for 1 more year?)
Danny Green - Manu Ginobili - Nando De Colo (if CJ's D-League he can probably play both guard positions.)

If that were to happen though I'd expect Gary Neal = gone.

It is a crazy rumor. McCalebb is the best PG in Europe. Spurs absolutely don't have the money to sign him. Before looking at how he would fit in Spurs depth chart, the biggest reason to turn down this rumor is that it doesn't make sense money wise.

The likely explanation of this rumor is that Spurs were indeed interested in him a couple of months ago. For whatever reason, there is a leak now about it.

Mills is a legit backup PG in the NBA. He showed that in Portland, and again when he got to play for us last year. I'm surprised people have so little faith in him - the FO knows he's a balla or they would've let him walk.

20 points in 20 minutes to lead the Spurs in a blowout win over Cleveland.

27 points, torching Steve Nash in his last game as a Sun.

34 points and 12 assists playing alongside Cory Joseph/James Anderson/Derrick Byars/DeJuan Blair.

Not exactly an impressive resume when you take a closer look. The Cavs game was over after a 32-18 1st quarter, in a game where Luke Walton played 18 minutes. Granted Mills scored efficiently, but it wasn't exactly against top level players or subs.

Then there is the Suns game in which Mills went 9-23 for 27 points while both Channing Frye and Grant Hill were injured and didn't play, and Nash played a total of 17 minutes. To put things in perspective Josh Childress, who the money conscious Suns felt was worth amnestying this off-season, played 21 minutes that same game. In fact with the exception of Ronnie Price, no one on the Suns played fewer minutes than Nash and yet they only lost by 4.

Then there was the final game against GSW. Again keep in mind this was a GSW team that had to lose in order to have a chance at keeping their lottery pick. So in order to do that they started 5 rookies, played a total of 7 players with Chris Wright and Jeremy Tyler logging 46 and 44 minutes respectively.

That's not to say the Spurs were at full strength, since the Big 3 didn't play in any of those games, and Splitter and Green played only limited minutes in the GSW win. However none of those games are particularly good indicators of how he will workout as a full-time backup PG for the Spurs.
