Scola has fallen off a cliff this year. I don't know if he got old, if he's mad about the almost trade or he's out of shape but yeah he's a shadow of the player he was last season.

I wonder how they would react if they had Bonner or Blair over Scola.

Blair, Anderson, 2nd round pick, and we'd love to take Scola off your hands.

They can have DeJuan if they throw in a 1st rounder.....

The drop in Scola's rebounding numbers this year is somewhat scary. In previous years, he was a solid rebounder and he is now rebounding at the same rate than Bonner.

Maybe he has starting declining. Short bigmen don't age well. It's a little surprising because he was great this summer with Argentina.

Every team's fans, including ours, think that other team's players are better than theirs.

Hes averaging under 6 rpg :wow

I had no idea, maybe cause he always seems to play well against us. But add the poor rebounding to the fact that hes never been a great defender, and I can see why theyd be frustrated with him. His offensive game is still pretty nice though tbh.

Maybe his legs are just dead? Give it some time.

So the Spurs were right about his rebounding? :stirpot:

He's at that age where Malik's career went south.

malik's problem was his ego
then pulling his jersey over his head running done the court
after that he was useless

Darius songaila dunking....you forgot that part. I remember that play. One of the few times you can pinpoint the moment a player got himself fired.

this

He was good for Argentina during the summer... What I noticed watching the game is that he wasn't looking for his shot much, and his teammates didn't go to him as much either. Maybe all those summer plays are catching up to him now.

:lol went in there and just about lost it...the Fox Sports Houston guys are more homerific than Sean is...saw a video that someone put together showing all the "questionable" calls from the game. One play seemed just like a tough steal and the play by play guy says "he absolutely tackled him." LOL...hilarious.

Scola had knee surgery, and as an undersized PF that loves the paint, he probably has taken a lot of abuse. Also the Rockets are a team in limbo, their chemistry and motivation had to have taken a hit with the Gasol trade rumors earlier in the season and they have a new and rusty coach in McHale. Don't know if I'm defending Scola here, but haven't really watched him outside of the Spurs games.

Dang, and Scola still has three years after this one with a price tag of 30.6M. Not to mention 8.6M this season.

I suppose if he continues to decline he might be an amnesty target someday.

Not with the size and length of his contract. I wouldn't touch it.

It was just last year that Scola was his usual dominant self - scoring and rebounding at will against virtually any team. After 4 meetings with the Spurs this year, it's clear that this guy had declined. Oh, he still had his moments, but his overall impact on the game has been greatly diminished. If the Rockets didn't have Kevin Martin, and his prolific scoring, they'd be in big trouble.

RJ for Scola would be a bad trade for both teams.

The amnesty rule has created an asymmetrical effect. Spurs can amnestied RJ and Rockets can do the same with Scola but it they are traded for each other, none can be amnestied. Swapping a bad contract for a bad contract can now be a bad move instead of just being a lateral move. Spurs best interest with RJ is now to keep him before amnestying him to create cap space.

There were some rumors in the Arg media about HOU trying to trade him again last week. Apparently there's some chemistry issues in the team (http://blog.chron.com/ultimaterockets/2012/01/rockets-decide-the-court-is-for-playing-not-talking/) too...

Lots of talk around Houston on the radio and elsewhere about a perceived 'lack of effort' by the team, not just Scola although he comes in for his share of criticism.

McHale fueled this with his coments after a recent loss. I can see old school McHale fuming if he feels his players aren't giving 100% every game.

Scola can't jump much, but he's average height PF. He seldom block shots and doesn't play much defense. He would probably be better off the bench for the Spurs.
