SAN ANTONIO (February 6, 2012) – San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker today was named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, Jan. 30, through Sunday, Feb. 5. This is Parker’s seventh time earning Western Conference Player of the Week honors. The Celtic’s Paul Pierce was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week.

Parker averaged team highs in points (22.3 ppg), assists (8.0 apg) and steals (1.50 spg), as the Spurs went 4-0. He scored a season-high 42 points and added 9 assists Saturday in a 107-96 win over the NBA’s top team, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Parker has scored 40-or-more points three times in his career, most recently March 25, 2009, when he scored 42 points at Atlanta.

With an assist to Tim Duncan at the 4:56 mark of the third quarter vs. Oklahoma City, Parker handed out his 4,445th career-assist to pass Avery Johnson as the franchise’s all-time leader in assists. For his career Parker has handed out 4,477 career assists.

For the season, Parker is averaging a team-best 18.1 points, 7.7 assists, 2.9 rebounds and 1.04 steals in 33.7 minutes per game. He currently ranks ninth in the NBA is assists per game.

Congrats and well deserved.. now he needs to keep his game up at this level for the rest of the season. These next couple weeks will be very telling about the future of this team: whether it can't be too soon til we're in the lottery, or if one can confirm the whispers of contention for another title.

Tony has carried the Spurs this season. The OKC game was a reminder to the WC coaches that he remains among the best guards in the conference and has earned a spot on the All-Star team.

congrats Tony

It's funny, because of Tony's recent great games - he's started to garnish attention from NBA fans who aren't familiar with the Spurs a whole lot. A lot of people think he's as old as Manu/Timmy ,around the 33-36 range. They are totally surprised when a wise spurs fan tells them he's actually 29.

Well deserved, he had a fantastic week. TP has laid my worries to rest at this point and turned things around. I was really nervous there for a while. This is the level we need from him to have any hope at a playoff run.
