I don't think anyone liked the deal but to think he would basically play 2 (?) months in a Boston jersey made the deal a historic failure

Amazing that Presti turned his biggest mistake into a starting center. Then again, his trade basically works out to Ray Allen for Perkins.

Yes, the Lakers in 2000 were not stacked at every position. they just had like the Heat had last year, two of the top 5 players in the game. and Kobe's spot in the top 5 was debatable in the first title of the 3peat ...definitive by the 2nd ring ...

DeadlyDynasty

You seriously cannot find any other team in NBA history where you are likely to get zero production from players 4-14 on a nightly basis. Anybody who's watched the Lakers this year can see this. If you haven't seen them, go look at the boxscores and they'll tell part of the story:lol

SG Kobe
SF Rice/Fox
PF Green/Madsen
C shaq (scrubs)

A good team definitely fairly deep, no holes. But wouldnt say they were STACKED. Rice was past his prime by the time he got to us. In fact from a PURE talent standpoint the team before that one with Van Exel and Eddie Jones (no Phil) had way more athletic talent. Plus despite his faults we had Elden as a backup to shaq. I would say

1. 1985 The drive to 5 was straight detrmination ... McAdoo gets his ring
2. 1980 Young (relative) Kareem, Rookie Magic, Silk, Coop
3. 1987 Thompson solidifies bench Magic takes torch from Kareem
4. 2001 A team playing beautiful ball by May and June shaq still best in game Kobe ascedant
5. 2000 Shaq at his best. Only year he was solely focused and paid the price to ring
6. 1988 Running on fumes but Magic, Worthy and Scott were at tail end of their primes
7. 2002 Ditto. Shaq and Kobe barely drag us across the finish line
8. 1982 A great team but the chemistry was off nixon and Magic began to feud and the coach and Magic too ...(remind you guys of Kobe? LOL)
9. 2009 the Kobe jaw, Clutch Ariza and fisher Key roles by Odom and Shannon Brown

1. 1985 The drive to 5 was straight detrmination ...
10. 2010 Running on fumes Bynum's taking out of Perkins loomed large ...Artest!!!!

crofl...I'll give you the 1985 team, but the 2001 Lakers would face-fuck just about any team, sans a few of the Bulls teams.

Considereing Fisher as a starter as "deep"...dumbass:lol
Duncan had stars at the PG and SG, as well as the best defensive SF in the game at the time.:lol

In 1999, he had Robinson before he was washed up.

oh, and manu>dirk

Bryant had stars at the 4 and 5 (Three of them). And a former DPoY in Artest.

agree to disagree :lol

Shaq would of been a monster, but Kareem would of run that version of shaq off the court in 1980. Plus shaq would of been in foul trouble. Magic would of owned Harper, Fisher shaw. Cooper would of done a decent job on Kobe. Silk would of made those cats pay. plus Nixon/Magic would of forced the them to play at a quicker pace than the 2001 Lakers would of liked.

Andrew Bynum was not a "star" in 2009-2010...certainly not in the playoffs, especially.

Nope, a highlight reel dunk followed by a slew of turnovers. We had no starting quality PG's on either the 2009 or 2010 team, and were carried by Kobe, Pau, Artest/Ariza, and LO

I think you're forgetting just how dominant Shaq was in that 3-peat, tbh.

The dude was unguardable. You'll never see 2 players destroy opponents like you did Kobe and Shaq in the 2001 Kings and Spurs' series.

That 2001 playoff run was like the basketball version of the Holocaust, with the Lakers playing the part of the Nazis

also DD, that 1987 team who would guard worthy? Worthy was a low post beast and Magic was so clutch for that team. I think that is a close matchup because Kareem is pretty darn old ...

But no way 2001 beats the 1980 or 1985 Lakers ...they may even struggle with the 1982 team ...if Nixon and magic hadnt beefed ...

I did not. But those lakers teams beasted in a less watered down league ...

shaq could of not kept up with the pace that Magic and Nixon would of set ...

Plus you have to remember refs, DD.

Do you recall that shaq spent parts of series especially aganst Sacto, in the playoffs, on the bench in foul trouble? If Vlade, Polard heck even Rik smiths in the 2000 Finals all got shaq in foul trouble. what would a young Kareem do? No way if shit plays out the same could Kobe bail out a win against THOSe teams with Magic leading the way ...

Nitpick all you want but the two times Kobe lead a team to a championship he had a stacked team.

I think you're romanticizing too many of those 80's teams (though they were no doubt great). There wasn't much defense in the 80's, while those 2000 and 2001 Lakers teams were lockdown on D.

Also, the 2001 playoff run was not watered down.
-Portland in Round 1 (who gave us hell in the WCF a year earlier and still had tons of talent)
-The upstart Kings with the toughest crowd
-On the road against the Spurs (best record in the league)
-The Sixers with the MVP, DPOY, 6MOY, and COY

Their only loss was in OT b/c they were rusty from having 9 days off:lol

The 2001 Lakers were simply unfair.

Kobe Fox Horry were very good perimeter defenders, Fisher a great charge/flop guy. Shaq Horry good rim protectors ...Still dont see how they beat those Lakers teams. In 1980 Kareem was the MVP and Magic could still dunk and had two good knees. Norm Nixon was an all-star. Wilkes put up 40 in the clinching finals game. Outside of Shaq/Kobe the 1980 who Kareem and Magic cancel out wilkes and Nixon are better than every other Laker on the 2001 squad. Cooper would probaly be the next best bench player after horry

1982 Lakers squad is underrated. McAdoo was a force off the bench, on both ends of the court. First team to sweep two series heading into the finals, won the finals w/o home court advantage against a tough opponent.

On the offensive end, I can't argue that. Caps skyhook was almost unstoppable but on the defensive end, Shaq's 150 lb advantage would have given Cap fits. Good match-up though :tu
