View Full Version : Sony Raises Price of Whitney Houston's Music 30 Minutes After Death

ElNono

"Just 30 minutes after Whitney Houston died, Sony Music raised the price of Houston's greatest hits album (http://www.ibtimes.com/articles/298680/20120214/whitney-houston-songs-sony-raises-price-30.htm), 'Ultimate Collection,' on iTunes and Amazon. Many technologists, including chairman of the NY Tech Meetup Andrew Rasiej, suggests that Sony should be boycotted for the move. In a tweet, Rasiej wrote, 'Geez Sony raised price on Whitney Houston's music 30 min after death was announced. #FAIL...We should boycott Sony.'"

using the OP logic, might as well boycott all media outlets for pimping her death to sell papers

You can always not buy the Whitney Houston while the price is high.

I would jack up the price on the DVD of that shitty movie she did with Kevin Costner too.

I didn't plan to after my first post. I just thought it was so funny that you post the article that probably most people don't have a second thought about other than it making sense to raise the price, then you act as if you disown it. That is what I find interesting.

Now you might make this too laughable not to participate.

But you did. And apparently you have nothing to comment on the OP itself.

Really?:

Considering I lifted it from a news site (which is linked in the OP), apparently some people thought it merited a second thought. Yet, you're bitching about me passing it along, not the story itself.

Any comments about the OP itself?

No.

Four posts, and still bringing nothing to the table. No surprises there.

Perhaps is time to start another of your classic crash and burn threads, like "WC's extreme views".

Do you think they have automated algorithms for this kind of stuff -> if artist X is in frequency in news tickets > Y raise price of his albums by Z?

You fail at economics. Prices would have fallen with the decline in demand after Whitney's death.

No tbh. Her death has lowered demand for prescription street drugs, so they price goes down. Simple economics tbh.

Businesses are in business to make money, not take ethical or moral stands.

If Sony thought they could make more money by <ethical/sympathetic something>, they'd do it.

Unless those drugs are now being purchased en masse as a "tribute" to Whitney.

HAhahahahahh. This is really funny.

Sony is simply heartbroken over the loss. Corporations are so human! Definitely deserve all the rights of humans since they are so compassionate.

Dan McDermott - Feb 18, 2012 - Public

Dancing on Whitney Houston's grave: Streaming rights pulled after her death to make a "very large amount of money" from DVD sales according to Netflix rep

I was inspired to watch the movie The Bodyguard tonight after watching Kevin Costner's stirring tribute to his former co-star at Whitney Houston's funeral this afternoon.

Unfortunately it isn't available for streaming. This was interesting since it is 20 years old. I checked the comments under the movie post on netflix.com and saw a bunch of complaints saying that it had been available for streaming until her death.

So I called Netflx and the rep confirmed what I suspected:

Netflix rep: "Okay Dan, I just went and talked to my main supervisor as to why the movie had been pulled and the reason it was pulled was the production company pulled the streaming rights from us because all the publicity after Whitney Houston's passing there was an opportunity to make really a very large amount of money on the DVD sales of her movies. So they're going to pull all the streaming titles we have of Whitney Houston so they can make more money off the DVD sales of her movies."

I added the fact that I don't like most white people I meet today, hopefully for some perspective. I simply don't like most people I meet. I don't even remember what prompted me to say that in the original thread, but were were talking about race.

Are you able to put percentages on the black people and white people you don't like?

Not accurately. I probably don't like 90% of the blacks I meet and probably don't like about 80% of the whites I meet.

I get a laugh that people keep bringing that up. To twist it into racism of some sort is your own bias or perceived racism. Read and understand the qualifiers of my words. From Oh Gee's sig, he archived it for us:

I don't like most black people. There are very few who I have met that grew up in a cultural setting I have any respect for. Most I have met are out right thugs, and lack integrity. I could say I don't like black people, but there are some exceptions. If I based all my decisions on statistics, I would stay clear of blacks.
