Let's talk about potential trades for bigs. Who's out there that can come in and fill the void left by Tiago? Kaman is an obvious answer, but his salary is too large.

Wow. What a completely new and untapped idea for a thread.

Any chance they will give Malcolm Thomas another chance, he may finally have an opportunity to show his worth?

I think we can do better than Malcolm. I think the Spurs viewed him as a stopgap 5th big with upside, not someone who can come in and give us the 20 minutes we need from our 4th big to avoid a Bonner/Blair pairing.

Sorry, done hearing about Fesenko and Pryzbilla. Signing is not the same thing as trading.

No!! Read my thread.

Pryzbilla has already publicly stated he's signing with Miami or one other team I don't remember (Chicago I'm pretty sure). He's not coming to the Spurs.

Minn is a good trade target. Their roster is over loaded with bigs and need more wing players.

Fairly certain that D Howard is going to come in a trade for Bonner, Jefferson and Blair.

hmmm pipe dream time - How about a package around Manu/Splitter for D Howard and Ryan Anderson? Throw in Blair, draft rights to Lorbek, first round pick.

ANd leave Howard and Duncan as the only bigs while Tiago is hurt?

The problem with making a trade for a big is we have a bunch of near minimum level salary guys that are are the most attractive pieces to teams, and we can't throw in Bonner or Blair because we need them. If we could somehow pull off Kaman for next year first rounders and a protected 2014 first round pick, I think that would be a good trade.

Yeah, except when you're over the cap, you can't just absorb a 14M contract like that.

Chris Andersen.

Makes too much money. Don't have the right pieces to put together a deal.

Yi Jianlian

Yi has looked decent in extended minutes, but I'm not convinced he's a full-time big yet. We need someone who can soak up minutes at center. On top of that, it's Dallas. Snowball's chance in hell we make a trade with them.

Several posters have discussed Amir Johnson and Ed Davis from Toronto. Both are really intriguing options, Amir in particular would be an instant upgrade over what Blair brings (but hes also 5x Blair's salary.)

The Raptors may as well tank with their coach publicly admitting that they have a team full of pussies. They have a log jam at PF with Davis, Johnson and Bargnani. I think getting rid of Amir makes a ton of sense for them. He's due 25 million over the next 4 years and they could bring end up bring their total salary to under 36 million heading into the free agency. Problem with Amir would be that we'd have to give up Bonner before Blair just to make the salaries match.

More controversial choices would be Darko Milicic and Anthony Randolph. Seems like no team has been able to motivate the two long term and their time in Minnesota has been reflective of that. Both players initially showed some life with the Timberwolves but have regressed since then. Both players have fallen completely out of the rotation. Darko would be the more realistic target since he has the longer contract and Randolph is younger with more potential.

Darko would actually be an okay acquisition. Sure, hes under contract for two more seasons after this one, but with the last season a team option, hes basically an expiring contract next year. Plus hes big, blocks shots, and clogs the lane.

Unfortunately, it's going to be hard to scounch up nearly 5M in assets to send back. We just don't have many big nasty contracts we're looking to dump outside of RJ (too big a contract for this trade) and Bonner (probably more of a "fan's choice" to trade, less so from the front office).

Of course, I'd be fine with moving some of the scrubs on cheaper contracts. Anderson, Blair and even Joseph could be moved in the right case. But even if you put all of them together, you still don't have enough cash going out.

Don't know whats up with Clark. He played only 3 minutes last night against Miami and isn't even in Orlando's rotation. Great measureables, but seems like hes regressed this year.
