So both will miss five games? Not horrible.

.......The fuck? That's horrible. Not because of Manu, because of Tiago. We CANNOT suffice with a TD/Bonner/Blair big man rotation for 2 fuckin' weeks!!
I'm calling bullshit though because Woj is a cocksucking liar often and because earlier Tiago was said to be day-to-day after being doubtful today.
It's coming from the Spurs, not Woj - http://blog.mysanantonio.com/spursnation/2012/02/20/spurs-vs-jazz-game-chat-5/

I think that's more Manu's prognosis. I think Tiago will be back before the ASB, especially if the Spurs struggle significantly in the post. Then again, hopefully Pop will try out this new guy unlike he did with Diogu and Thomas.

Well that's a bit more official. Really hope that's more of an exaggeration for Splitter.

Well then I suppose it's fortunate that the Spurs have been able to stock up on wins with this recent 10 game win streak. We're not aiming for 1st seed in the West right now, and Popovich isn't going to run Tim into the ground playing 35-40 min./night just because Tiago is out, so I don't know why any spurs fan could possibly be this upset unless you're really gunning for a 15+ win streak and/or a "regular season championship" :lol

Right now the Spurs need to win. There's only a couple games separating the 8 playoff teams and if the Spurs don't get these wins now it may come to bite them in the ass later when teams start to hit their strides and/or really fight for a playoff spot. I don't wanna see the Spurs in the latter category, so it'd be nice for them to wrap up a playoff spot early and start making adjustments for the playoffs. Doesn't help even despite the win streak Dallas is only a few games back.
I want us to get past the 1st round of the playoffs. Everything else is gravy imo.

Watch the NBDL scrub get lit up for 30+ by the other teams' scrubby big men off the bench, then the other team will leave him in the game because of his confidence and he'll be able to keep scoring even when we pull our scrub's ass for Duncan because of that confidence. He'll even start making random ass 3 pointers. That's what ALWAYS fucking happens. :bang
Just give him a chance. If he does get lit up then he does. If they aren't going to trade or cough up enough cash to get a big that'll make a difference, they need to experiment and find a big that can fit into the systen. Toros have a couple of players who can do that. It's far from perfect but it's looking to be a likely scenario.

5 games ain't bad, not worried about Manu, but we need some front court help for sure... lots of small ball coming

That's brilliant thinking! Spurs were destined to drop a few games in a row at some point regardless, right? Pop will be smart and keeping building our bench. :toast
I guess Splitter could get back earlier, but Spurs dont want him to participate in this rookie challenge shit, so he is out 2 weeks.

I do remember specifically Jackie Butler in 2007 allowing someone on some scrub team like 30+ points when we were fighting Phoenix for the 2-seed. We could have had HCA on them instead of having to rely on help from the league office. Motherfuckers. If you don't remember the team, you don't remember specifically.

I just hope Pop finally plays a 5th big for some of Tiago's 20 minutes. Finally, an opportunity.

Yeah man I remember that one. That loss really ended up biting us in the ass.
We could've caught up to Phoenix for the regular season 2 seed, but instead we just ended up winning a championship that year :cry

Aside of a game at home against the awful Bobcats, other games will be though. Spurs could easily go 1-5 in the next couple of weeks. Saying that, Spurs have been so surprisingly good without Manu that they could grab more wins than that.

I think resting Splitter two weeks is smart. He has a history of calf injuries. The last thing you want to do is bring him back too soon and then he gets injured again and is gimpy for the rest of the season.
Two weeks for Ginobili when he could hardly walk after the Clippers game is fortunate.
That said, I agree with Bruno that this is going to be an extremely tough stretch. The Spurs are literally playing the three teams with the most bigman depth in the NBA in Utah, Denver and Chicago.
Going 2-3 in the next five games and getting those two back healthy for March 2nd against the Bobcats would be an acceptable course of events.

The effects of not having Tiago for a short period will be much more significant than the loss of Ginobili. The minutes that Ginobili played could easily be soaked up because were so deep at the wing, but not only are we thin in the frontcourt, now we will have to live with us getting killed when the Bonner/Blair combo inevitably plays 10-15 MPG. Duncan might have to play in the 34-36 MPG range until after the ASB for us to finish this Rodeo Road Trip successfully.

That said, 2 weeks for both, considering the ASG will fall into that time period, is awesome news. The 5-6 game sample will be largely forgotten by the end of the season, and gives Manu plenty of time to get back in shape and be rollin for May/June.

2-3 over the next 5 will be more than sufficient, I agree. The Charlotte game at home March 2nd is the most winnable of these 5.
Given that we're on the first leg of a back to back starting tonight, I wonder if Pop is willing to throw away either the Utah (tonight) or Portland (tomorrow) game to give Tim an extra day of rest.
Pop even made a comment during the Clippers postgame that suggested that he was in the mood to throw away a game or two in the short run to maximize playoff potential (I don't recall the quote exactly, but he said something about winning the 'battle' that night but taking strides towards losing the 'war' (with Manu and Splitter going down)). When Pop starts up with his "battle vs war" cliches, you have to wonder if he's in the mood to throw away a game or two.
If we can win at Charlotte and win either against Utah, Portland, or Denver, I'll be content.

The Blair-Bonner combo should be worse than ever, because now they're not only a defensive liability, but they're also a rebounding one, due to Blair going from being an elite rebounder to a mediocre one.
What they've got to do and I suspect they will do is, pick certain games that they're going to go all out for and concede others relatively early if it doesn't look good. Without Splitter, they don't have enough on either end to be competitive every game, particularly during this difficult stretch. The worst thing they could do is attempt to have their cake and eat it too.

So, I wonder if Leonard the Leopard can change his spots and give em hell from the PF position.

It just sucks because the Spurs put themselves in this situation by the front office doing an inadequate job to prepare or address needs. Having said that, the team did their work by going 6-0 to start the road trip so they can lose a few and still be ok although they don't really have much breathing room on Dallas.

The Spurs should be fine. I think it's great news that it's only 2 weeks for both Manu and Splitter. Both should be back by March 4th against the Nuggets. So that leaves the Spurs with games against Utah, Portland, Denver, Chicago, and Charlotte without Manu and Splitter. Not TOO bad, could be worse. I'll be happy going 2-3 over the next 5......

I'm going out on a limb here, and risk looking stupid. I think Blair will step it up on the boards.

As has been earlier indicated, the Spurs are better prepared to mitigate Manu's absence than they are Splitter's.

After Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Manu Ginobili would miss two weeks due to his strained oblique, coach Gregg Popovich said that he would be out "several weeks" during Monday's pregame media availability. Perhaps this is semantics and the two week timetable is still in play, but we're not going to bank on it after this report.

Who was readily available (that made sense at the time) that would have made things look much more rosy now?
Spurs have weathered injuries with their depth as well as anybody this year.
