View Full Version : Is Hasheem Thabeet the worst top 2 pick in the history of the NBA

Obviously he's the worst top 2 pick in the 2000s and is the worst player currently in the NBA, there's no doubt about that.

The guy has absolutely no offensive game, horrible on defense, a horrible rebounder for a guy that's 7'3. Heck he doesn't even make an attempt to box people out, he just let's the opposing player get the offensive rebound and putback. The guy has worse hands than Kwame Brown and a basketball IQ of a bag of rocks. In short, the guy has no basketball talent and doesn't make up for it with effort/hustle, toughness, or being smart. Biggest waste of a #2 pick ever.

Grizz where in bad position from beginning. They wanted to draft big men, not best avaible. Because they couldnt draft PG, SG, SF having young guys on this positions. All big mens in 2009 draft sucks.
1st round picks :
#2 Thabbet
#8 Jordan Hill - sucks
#13 Tyler Hansbrough (solid guy from bench, not worth top 10 pick)
#16 James Johnson - sucks
#26 Taj Gibson - best big men from this draft. Not worth #2 at the time.

Then guys like Cunningham, Mullens, Pendergraph, Blair, Brockman.

Yes. When you're 7'3, and can't get playing time over Jordan Hill, you don't belong anywhere near a basketball.

This is true..hindsight is a bitch, but at the time, while many believed Thabeet would be a bust, I doubt most people believed he would be as bad as he currently is, tbh..

You'd think Oden by default is worse since he's spent more time in his career injured than playing (and should retire). But Thabeet's presence on a court might actually be a negative.

But Oden was the 1st pick in the draft. Durant was the 2nd pick.

They could of just given Haddadi the backup center role if they wanted a project center (he at least plays hard in spite of his lack of talent) and use the #2 pick on the best available talent or even trade the pick for veteran help. If it's true that the Thunder wanted to draft Thabeet in the 09 draft, than the Grizzlies really let them off the hook drafting him.

more proof of why you draft the best talent available instead of plugging holes.

Agreed. It's a joke that he's even on an NBA roster.

Being "top" 2 includes being #1.

I haven't seen Thabeet at all in the NBA. Darko, Kwame, and Kandiman were all bad picks too, but at least they carved out careers even if they never lived up to their perceived potential. Is it now assumed that Thabeet won’t even be a serviceable back-up ever? That's pretty bad if that's the case.

The only top 5 pick I have ever seen who was a comparable bust to Thabeet was Tskitishvili. Even Len Bias was a better #2 pick than Thabeet.

He just wanted the money. Got picked as the 2nd overall and is probably happy with the 8-9 million guaranteed hes going to make in his NBA career. I doubt he ever loved the game of basketball or the thought of becoming a relevant player was ever his focus.

Tskeetisvili could atleast spread the floor tbh. Thabeet is just worthless.

That's not Oden, Durant, or Thabeet. That's Levar Burton. Are you really so racist that they just all look alike?
