Looks like the union and MLB have decided to expand the playoffs to add a fifth team (second wild card) in each league. Apparently the two wild card teams from each league would play eachother in a one-game playoff to decide who advances to the Divisional series.
I don't know about y'all, but as a fan of a small-market team in a big-market division I love this change! I still think we'll get tight races, and this way we know we'll get a "play-in" game each year.
What are your thoughts?

You're a dick, though I guess that's old news too.

It seems dumb to me. If the 4th place team wins the WC spot by 5 or more games, they shouldn't lose that work with one game.

2 quick thoughts
- Assures the Yanks/Sox will never miss the playoffs (Wild Card game)
- Heavy emphasis on Division winners. Almost unfair as the 2nd best team in the League (#1 Wild Card) is forced to play a 1-game playoff versus the other wild card team while using up one of their starters etc.
Before the Rays/Sox were able to spend the final weeks of the season setting up their playoff roster. Now, no matter how much more dominant they are than Central/West winner....they are still forced to play that 1 winner take all game

Not all divisions are created equal

I don't have a problem with it. Is it necessary? No. But if you want to secure a playoff appearance, win the division.
It wasn't that long ago that a failure to win the division resulted in no playoffs.
In the instances where a 95-win, 2nd-place Wild Card loses to an 88-win Wild Card, then they simply didn't deserve it.

This isn't the ncaa tourney. I like the idea of adding teams to the playoffs, just not this one. I think they should allow 6 in each league like they do in the nfl.
