Someone should introduce pop to this concept called "sunk cost".

Someone should have introduced that concept to Buford. Who cares if he plays for another team and the Spurs have to eat his salary. He's marginal on his best day.

They aren't paying him 8.4 milion to spread the floor. At that price tag, you could find 4 or 5 guys that could come off the bench and accomplish the same goal and probably do it more effectively in the process. A complete joke of a signing.

Just keeping with his standards. Dude is like the most clueless poster in the entire board.

They should have never made that trade. They were hoping to change RJ into Bowen 2.0 with better offense.

I thought Jefferson would put the Spurs back on the level of the Lakers & their 3-7footers. But he destroyed any chance the team had for 3 seasons

The trade wasn't the problem...the contract extension after seeing Jefferson fail for 2 years was.

There are 3 logical reasons for RJ getting playing time.
1. The most logical, he is starting because he is being put on display, not for this season but for the OFF SEASON!
You guys have to remember how the amnesty option works, once RJ is amnestied (I really do think they will amnesty him) teams have to bid on his contract, whichever team bids the most will absorb that amount of his contract.
This will allow the Spurs to save A LOT more money. Just the fact that he's a starter will cause teams to bid a good amount of money on him, a starter has much more value than a bench player. If they do bury him on the bench his points will go down dramatically, as well as his rebounds, his 3pt % etc.
Giving him big mins., starting him gives RJ a lot more value making it much more likely that teams will bid more money on him.
2. The Spurs are displaying him so they can trade him before the trade deadline. I doubt they do this because it'd be better to just amnesty him so they'd be able to pick up a quality FA next year.
3. Pop is a stubborn bastard and will stick with a vet rather than a rookie just like he did with Tiago.

Shame to see this guy get PT over Leonard, Green, and the others. Even on off night they contribute more than RJ.

pig in a poke, that's RJ. Good lesson for front offices.

I doubt they amesty RJ unless they get a huge percentage as a buyout. They simply cannot get enough in terms of replacements to matter in ticket sales. Fans don't buy tickets to see Leonard or Neal, they want to see Duncan, Parker and Manu. It doesn't matter who they bring in, if they don't get increased team value and profits, it's a bad move to short sell. Sure he sucks, but he's going to be paid for regardless and Duncan's ending contract should provide salary cap space. If they resign Duncan at the same money he's getting now, you know they are just extending the show for the fans, not to win a ring.
