Sorry SpursTalk, but Spurs aren't looking to deal.
Don't expect the Spurs to make any surprise trades before the March 15 deadline. Popovich joked before Wednesday's game that he'll just let the phone ring his office on the eve of the deadline. "We're not doing anything anyway," Popovich imagined telling his staff. "Don't answer it."
Found in the game notes....http://scores.espn.go.com/nba/recap?gameId=320307024
Whether entirely serious or not, I find this news appalling.

Nonetheless appalling. Spurs should be at least looking.

CIA Pop imo. This makes me actually think they are planning something.

Yeah, this is apalling. Pop has always been a real straight shooter in the past when divulging their plans for trades and other transactions.

While I'm not expecting a trade you can bet the Spurs are looking and listening if someone calls.

According to trusty CIA Pop decoder ring...Spurs are burning up the telephone wires trying to make a deal.

Yeah, James Anderson for a future draft consideration.

Damn the anticipation is killing me.
Can't wait to be disappointed when the Spurs stand pat or trade Anderson for nothing or be excited when the Spurs acquire Serge Ibaka (big wishful thinking).

I anticipate a small trade that surgically tries to correct issues with the frontline.
Most likely James Anderson outbound, but may also include the likes of DeJuan Blair.

If the Spurs don't make a trade, it won't be from a lack of trying, it will be from a lack of good, tradeable assets.

Not necessarily true. I think James Anderson will be traded for certain. The Spurs may only get a protected 2nd rounder for him (ie, a salary dump) but I doubt hes on the roster after the 15th.

they don't need to salary dump him he's gone next year anyway

After posting, I realized I should have said this afterward:
"That being said, I do expect a small trade, likely involving James Anderson. I'm not saying that a trade WON'T happen, just that fans should have faith that the front office is doing more than their due diligence."

If you get him off the roster before the end of the season, he doesn't count against the tax.

I hope we pick up Boris Diaw after his contract is bought out and trade Richard Jefferson for Emeka Okafor giving us two more big men.

clearly his playin mind games now and something is going down
that tech foul throwout against the knicks isnt fake, he had to run back to the office for an emergency trade call....

Yeah, the trade deadline should be very quiet for Spurs. Aside of a potential financial trade with JA, nothing should happen. :sleep

I think we should expect something. It's been a while since someone on SA actually demanded a trade, and SA doesn't deal with people who don't want to be here. I expect Anderson to get traded, hopefully in a good deal, but don't be too optimistic.
Also, I agree with the CIA Pop calls.
I just recently read that Kwahi article - the Spurs intentionally never directly talked to Kwahi to keep their interest on the downlow - how CIA is that shit?! No scouting at all directly, just a ton of research.
Also, in fact I believe when we grabbed Kurt Thomas in that trade 4 years back there was also like barely any inkling that we'd be going for a trade, yet we pull it off hours before the deadline.

Which is why he'll be very easy to salary dump.
Besides, that didn't stop them from dumping Theo Ratliff is much the same way.

Tyrus Thomas is another guy that has gone the way of Diaw with CHA. Not so much Spurs related, but wouldnt be surprised if they dump him if they can find any takers.

Interesting. I was mulling about that same thought a couple of days ago. Looked into a trade scenario. Came up with this.

Probably a meh scenario...but addresses many components of current and potential future issues regarding all teams involved in both talent and structural environment.

Well, let's see, we all know Tim, Tony and Manu aren't going anywhere, and I doubt they would trade Kawhi. So based on Pop's quote from the Kawhi article ("If you're going to get something good, you're going to have to give up something good."), I think we better say our goodbyes to Mr. Clutch, Gary Neal. :wow:depressed
The only other "good" player is Tiago, and although it makes no sense to trade him, he and Neal are the only two players who could help the Spurs get something good back in a trade.

^I can see Neal going to Utah on draft day, tbh. Not so sure whether they would move him before then.

Interesting. Just a gut feeling, but that makes me think nothing is going to happen.
Pop may not be bluffing this time. Besides, every good gambler knows, you can't always bluff, gotta play it straight every once in awhile to keep your opponents off guard.

This quote was made last June just after the draft. I don't know why you wnat to base something on that.
spurs need a future crippling trade. if i still have optimism that the spurs have enough young prospects/draft picks/salary cap to survive the era after the big 3, the front office did not do a good job. i'm looking at okafor.

Tim, Manu and Tony need to retire Spurs. Id keep Tiago and Leonard. Everyone else could be tradebait.
