Think there is a chance the Spurs could ship RJ and Anderson to ATL for him?

Then again, would we want that type of player on our team? Discuss. :flag:

there are not assets the spurs can give. unless the hawks really like low first round picks.

I dont understand why people want to fix what isnt broken. I think the only guy tradeable is James Anderson, if he is traded I hope its for a decent draft pick.

RJ is a really good player who is just in a system that doesn't fit. He'd return to all star form with Atlanta.

RJ is definitely broken. Problem is no team would ever trade for him.

I'd love for the Spurs to after this guy, but we would have to get a third team involved because we don't have the appropriate salaries to make a trade.

RJ for Dwight Howard. You think the Magic would do it?

It would probably take something like Parker+Blair or Parker+Leonard (minimum), since the Spurs would need the Hawks to throw Teague in the deal to fill the hole left by moving Tony. Not sure whether I do that trade or not considering the level Tony is playing at right now. If the Hawks ask for Splitter in addition to Tony then it's a definite no-go though.

Unless Manu is included in the offer, the Spurs have no chance at trading for Smith.

There are teams out there that would love to have him with FAR more desireable assets. Chicago could offer Boozer & Gibson, for example (another shot blocker to put next to Noah), which is a far better deal for ATL than RJ and Anderson.

The Hawks would jump at a Parker-Smith deal straight up, but the Spurs would never do that. Teague could be thrown in, but he seems to have regressed this year after his strong showing in last years playoffs. Simply, this trade won't happen unless we find a third team.

Yeah, I'm not a Teague fan either... just thinking what could be a reasonable offer. To do a 3-team deal, what point guard would you target to replace TP?

DPG21920

That would be tough. Parker for Smith+Teague? Would be an offer the Spurs would have to consider but ultimately I think the Spurs say no. But that's the type of offer it would even take for both sides to consider it.

The Hawks snap-accept, and the Spurs turn it down.

another pipe dream

i would fix the PF position by getting gibson from chicago. i would trade blair + anderson + 1st pick for gibson. i think that's fair for both sides.

People need to give up on the idea that Anderson has any trade value. If a team wants to take a look at him, they'll just wait a few months until the season is over and he's a FA.

I think this will not happen, but they might be more willing to talk to us if we threw Splitter's name out there. That would give them a center to put beside Horford and finally move him to his natural spot at the 4. I don't think the SPurs do this but hey they are the same age Splitter and Smith. Smith fits better next to Duncan. Food for thought. But even with Splitter I still don't see them being that interested if Jefferson is included. They could get more for Smith and their asking price will be too high. Our best bet is probably waiting to see who is bought out or hoping a big man trade falls into our lap.

Why in the WORLD does everyone think the only way to win is to get rid of Jefferson? Admittedly, he's not the RJ of old, but he has filled a role w/ this team and they ARE doing pretty well.

The regular season means nothing - it just decides who gets in to try and make their way to the championship. Being an 8th seed doesn't mean you're out of it...

The Spurs need to focus on playoff matchups w/ the top 8 teams in the West. They need someone to defend Kobe, Gasol and Bynum; Griffin and CP3, Dirk and Terry; Randolph, Gay and Mayo; Nene, Gallinaro and Lawson; Durant and Westbrook; and Aldridge, Wallace and Crawford.

I've never been a fan of RJ and still think that Blair is undersized. Nevertheless, they still seem to find ways to win games. The question is - can they win a SERIES?

I think so. And while that exits, a trade (ANY trade) really isn't necessary. Anderson, who will be let go after this season, is still contributing now and will be needed down the stretch - especially w/ how fragile Manu remains to be.

In RJ's last 16 games, he's had:

7 points or less - 11 times
3 rebounds or less - 10 times
0 trips to the FT line - 10 times

At the beginning of the season, Jefferson's trade value was zero. Amazingly, it has gone down since then. If we threw in Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green, plus our next two first round picks, I still doubt anyone would take on Jefferson's contract.

DPG21920
03-08-2012, 08:27 PM
You don't need to look at RJ trades with regards to on court, but $ saved. If there is a player equally as bad with a similar contract that teams just want swap (see Rashard Lewis for Arenas), that is the opportunity.

But as Bruno said with the amnesty, Spurs would actually have to really believe in the player they are getting in order to trade RJ.

Why do people want Josh Smith when we already have the non-psychotic version in Kawhi? He's lazy and fundamentally unsound on defense and never met a long two point shot he didn't like. He probably won't move by the deadline this year, but I fucking guarantee you his ass is out of the ATL no later than NEXT year's deadline. They're sick of his prima donna shit. He's all butthurt because he feels they didn't promote him enough as a potential All Star. Can you IMAGINE how Pop would interact with this whiney baby?

This thread is gonna go 10+ pages like every other trade rumor thread goes.

One of these 2 things will happen for sure.

1. Smith stays with the Hawks
2. Smith is traded to another team other than the Spurs.
