Started going downhill after a head injury in 2009 ... death believed to be due to complications from a brain injury, not sure if it was a new one or the older one.

Ok, I've seen RIP updates about this guy all day today.

What's the big deal? Some kinda highly-esteemed tranny hobo Austinite?

he was weird

:cry but, but, that's what made him so great. He was the icon of our idiotic slogan :cry

:cry "Life's too short to live in Dallas" :cry

Only in Austin would a transgender homeless man be mourned.

This town cracks me up so much.

Autin is the best city in Texas and i dont think anybody thought of LC as the icon of the slogan "keep Austin weird" but he was waaayy more popular than he deserved to be. He was charging people $5 a pop for pictures with him on 6th street. :rolleyes

he ran for mayor one year and campaigned up and down congress wearing his drag which was mildly amusing

Say what you want but he was a legend on 6th and Congress, where I actually worked for a year or so. Leslie at the time was trolling the bus stop preacher/guitar player for months, until finally the preacher snapped and assaulted Leslie and got arrested, :lol RIP

I was here before anyone was trumpeting Keep Austin Weird all the time, and Leslie was always on 6th back in 1995. By the time people were saying that all the time Austin had definitely already lost most of its "weirdness." I've never really understood it. I would have preferred people to stay away honestly :lol

Tha dearly clung-to mantra is terribly annoying. It leads to the most confounding sense of pretentiousness and condescension that I've ever come across.

yeah, real austinites don't ever say "keep austin weird"...

it's more like "keep the people who dont live in austin, away"

...but glad it's kept you away

i thought keep austin weird was pushed by the california yuppie migrants who diluted the weirdness in the first place

..weird..

them and the New Yorkers. :lol

Drove around Austin just last weekend and saw a minimum of 12 guys who could easily fill his platform pumps as the Ambassador of Weird. RIP Leslie.
