View Full Version : Would you offer Lin a 3-year.25 million contract?

In terms of his bright upcoming future and value in the market. The knicks should offer him a reasonable contract in the summer. to be honest. Linsanity now is not on the same level with those guys like D-Rose ,TP and CP3 . However, Lin is still 23 years old and will surely be an all star from next season on. so if you were the manager of the knicks would you agree to this contract?

But by market value... Yes.

So he does not deserve 5 -6 million per year?

No, I ment I agreed with you on the he not in same level of D-Rose ,TP and CP3.

But by market value, he is worth a nice contract. 25m/3y is ok'ish.

Based on just 20 or so games, I'm willing to take a chance on 5 mil per. But 3 year 25 mil, which comes out to roughly 8 mil per is too pricey. I'm not even convinced he's a long term starter in ths league.

On the otherhand, if you take into account ticket sales and merchandise sales that he's generating, I could see him signing for 25 mil over three years.

With Melo injures once again someday, then you will know that Lin worths 8 mil per.

I wonder what deal will Lin sign. I totaly have no idea ,how it will look like. 25/3 seems unrealistic tough. Lin would want 5 yrs, and Knicks would like less money annually

hahah compared to other bloated contracts with other lazy, uninspired players in the league.. that looks like a bargain to me.

Based on potential: 6-7mil

Average salary of NBA players is $5.15M, I would imagine that, even based strictly on performance, Lin is above average at this point.

I only have the 2010 data, but of the 146 guards in the league, 48 guards make $5M or more. I am not sure if there are 48 guards who are better than J. Lin at this point, especially when you are mindful of the fact that there are quite a few young guards who didn't make the $5M cutoff because they were on their rookie deals (Conley, Harden, Westbrook, Mayo).

Surprisingly, in 2010, going to $8M a year would only shrink the list down to 30 guards (18 guards make between $5M and $8M, weird), and those that made the $8M club aren't really that great of a group of guards either. Mo Williams, Jason Richardson (an old deal), Jamal Crawford, Devin Harris, Kirk Hinrich, Jose Calderon, Ben Gordon (definitely a mistake).

Of those 18 guards that makes between $5M and $8M, the only one who is clearly better than J. Lin is Derrick Rose, and the only reason he's there is because of the rookie deal. The other players include Beno Udrich (WTF?), Sasha Vujacic (WTFFFFFFFFF???), JJ Redick, John Salmons, J.R. Smith (I believe he is the 2nd best player in this group, behind Rose), and Francisco Garcia.

A player like Kyle Korver and Louis Williams makes $5M. Of the players that are not on rookie deals, here are a list

UPDATE: Just found the 2011/12 salary:
http://www.draftexpress.com/nba-player-salaries/position/2011/

The $5M group have some promising players, but these players are only here because they are on the rookie deals, they would command a MUCH larger contract once their rookie deals expire. (Westbrook, Irving, Wall).

Those making between $5M and $8M who are NOT on rookie deals:
Hinrich, Miller, Nelson, Felton, Udrih.

Those who are making more than $8M, and I think are worse than J.Lin:
Calderon, Terry, Mo Williams, Stuckey (arguable).

Players like Nate Robinson, Jarrett Jack, Jose Barea, Randy Foye and such makes slightly less than $5M a year. So I would say J Lin is only worth $5M a year based on performance is not entirely accurate.

No. The guy is not effective when running a half court offense, he's only good on teams like NY that run all over the place. Guys like Kidd and Nash are able to adapt to any style of offense, run and gun or half court grinding game. Not to mention they make scrub team mates look like cash, something only elite PGs can do.

A good center would deserve that contract, but there are so many PGs in the league that can do what Lin does on a run and gun team, that nobody would rush to sign the guy to such a contract.

I'm Taiwanese, I know Lin is Taiwanese descent.

He isn't Chinese.

He said that for making those mainland Chinese happy or he meant his ancestors were Chinese.

So most of us are African from that standpoint?

Because human ancestors were from Africa.

Or you can say we were monkeys.:nope

Notice how the nba hypes up Lin right after yao retired. Gotta milk that Chinese market one way or the other.

Tbh, i didn't see the NBA itself hype him up. Moreso the Media landscape. The Hype just outgrew him because he had a winning streak going. It's toned down now (a little) as the Knicks are losing. But the NBA wasn't ready for it, they run out of Lin jersey the 2nd game as a starter for him or so :D

Still, Business is business.

The reason that Lin said he's Chinese was his ancestors were Chinese.

That was Lin's mother's grandmother.
In Chinese/Taiwanese blood relationship laws, the mother side doesn't count.
For an example, you belong to a Chinese family but your grandmother was a Filipino....so you aren't Filipino, right?

America can’t get enough of Jeremy Lin — nor can anyone else. Less than a week after leading the Knicks to a five-game winning streak, Taiwanese-American point guard is the most searched item (http://www.newyorker.com/online/blogs/evanosnos/2012/02/china-catches-linfengkuang.html) on Baidu, a leading Chinese search engine, and he already has a quarter million followers on Weibo (http://www.weibo.com/jlin7), a Twitter-like microblog. Everybody, it seems, is talking about the Harvard-educated wunderkind.
In Asia at least, most comments seem pleased to see a high-profile Chinese-American in sports. Wang Lee-hom, a Taiwanese-American celebrity with over 13 million followers on Weibo, tweeted in Chinese Tuesday: “Perhaps you all guessed what today’s Weibo is going to be? It’s about the NBA’s first ABC [American-born Chinese] Jeremy Lin! Representing Chinese right now in the U.S., breaking many long-held stereotypes, opening Americans’ eyes!”

Sometimes, Chinese could be a general call as you mention about Sigaporean, Taiwannese.....Because their ancestors were from China.

But what I mentioned was nationality + descent. Not ancestry.
