Moreover, I never could overcome feeling self-conscious about holding something that large to my ear. While a headset is almost an absolute requirement for the Galaxy Note, it doesn’t come with so much as a set of wired ear buds.

I just don't see the advantage of side by side apps on a 10" screen. You can use SD cards with an iPad as well FYI with the camera connection kit.

I will say this, I love having a stylus. One of my most used apps is Asus' supernote. It is perfect because I type substantially faster than I write, so I can type out my notes, but when I get to equations, or the greeks, or graphs, I can just use my stylus to enter it. I have been wanting windowed apps ever since I got a tablet. It's just faster. I was really happy when some devs started incorporating Cornerstone into CM9 for the Touchpad. I know that I would not use the multi pressure stuff, but I am not an artist. I can see how that would be fantastic for those types.

There's pros and cons to both Android and Apple, really. Specwise, this new ipad is already behind the curve. Don't see why they couldn't make it a quadcore. There's really no other advancements made that haven't been on their other products. I'm sure it'll sell well, regardless.

I don't think any of the other tablets have near the resolution of that new iPad screen or quad core graphics. Behind in some ways, ahead in others. We'll have to see what the developers turn out in the next few months to see what's what I guess.

Very true, but Apple products have pretty good resale value too. The only Mac I owned was a old equipment lottery iMac I won about 4 years ago, and it was one of the first slim ones. I sold it two years ago for $150 non operational, just for parts :lol I've also sold the three previous iPhones I owned for at least $250 after jailbreaking them. They gave us the first one, so I may still be a few dollars up overall.

I'd rather buy a Blackberry Playbook. $200, Adobe Flash, micro HDMI out (1080), multitasking, .mp4 and .mkv (supposedly) support out-of-the-box (making it a decent mobile HTPC), Native SDK (C/C++) and WebWorks (HTML/CSS/JavaScript) for developers/hackers.

Who knows where RIM is going, but since these devices are replaced regularly, I consider this a bargain.

A friend of mine got the PB for 200$, and I have to admit it's an underrated beast

RIM failed in the marketing department, but the PB may just be the best tablet outthere

And with OS 2.0, it's getting a lot of apps

But going back to the iPad for a second, I'm on record as saying that since I have an iPhone, I want an Android tablet (hell I almost impulsed bought a Motorola Xoom for $300 the other day). Having said that, you can talk specs all you want, but in the end, the name of the game is to move units. Apple is doing that better than anyone else right now.

So while the new Samsung Tab may be shitting on the new iPad, I highly doubt Apple is worried. Everyone may be an "idiot" but in the end, the iPad is still the king until someone takes it down.

My store is going to be selling the new 7" Galaxy Tab for under $300. Tempting.

Speaking of which, my wife had her phone stolen a month and a half ago, we used the insurance to get a replacement, but I also bought a nexus s 4g to have as a backup phone. She had been using the NS4g primarily, but then decided to switch back to the evo 4g. The one she got had a few minor problems that stacked up on each other, so she called the insurance company (assurion)back to let them know that her evo wasn't up to snuff.... I have the PB - well got it for my mom but I have to wait go to Algeria (in a few months) to hand it to her, so I'm playing with it :D - and the size is perfect IMO, especially for typing.
Sometimes, I do have to zoom in, but it's not that bad

The screen is great - 1080 p looks great, and those speakers ...ah those speakers are really nice

Yeah you're absolutely right about that. That's exactly what I used to do before I got one. Only advantage now is that now my phone lasts a couple of days without charging and I got tired of reading documents on my phone screen and zooming all the time. To each their own because there is honestly not much to justify it.

Laptops are very cumbersome. I always have to sit upright with it, it slides off my lap sometimes, it gets hot and can hang the system by overheating, my legs falls asleep, gotta carry a heavy ass bag with it with all of the accessories along with another bag for other unrelated items, the stupid brick, it's pounds heavier, it's slow if you don't upgrade ram, no touchscreen because trackpad is annoying sometimes, ect.

All in all, my laptop is forgotten. I don't even know where it is.

As opposed to not having those accessories available because... they won't work with the device? When I take my laptop with me I usually have just the laptop and headphones. Who forces you to take everything with it that makes it so heavy?

@ cryhavoc, Besides gaming, what else can a laptop do that can't be done on a tiny slab? I watch movies on it in crystal clear fashion. All of the apps on the tab replaced the programs on my laptop plus more. Memory isn't an issue since I have the cloud and 2 cards in it. Word Processing isn't a problem. The tab is lighter than the lightest laptops. To charge, a simple usb cord. No brick. Tabs fully charges in 35 minutes and lasts just as long or longer than a laptop. It can EASILY replace a laptop, a desktop no.

IMO ppl will have both laptops and tablets.

No a tablet cannot replace a laptop. But a tablet is useful in some scenarios.

I disagree with ppl that say one replaces the other

two textbooks and a relatively light laptop is still heavy. My TP is a "heavy" tablet and is still 4 pounds lighter than my light laptop. If you add my BT keyboard, I am still saving 3 lbs, but if you add the power brick, I am back up to a 4 lb difference. It doesn't sound like a lot, but it helps. Also, despite being newer than my TP, I use my laptop about 10% of the time, while I use my TP the other 90. In fact the only time that I can think of that I use my laptop is if I am sitting on the couch and want to pound out a paper (literally when I am setting it on my lap).

Any heavy user-oriented task is going to be impossible on a tablet. Go ahead and try coding/programming or even sending out long detailed email on one. Just because it's possible does not make it a good choice for the task, and the touchscreen editing software is still comparatively limited.

I disagree, but to each their own. Laptops are simply more powerful, flexible, and versatile right now, if for no other reason than the fact that they support about a trillion USB devices that you can use for virtually any purpose. I still expect the tablet market to continue to grow, but I think they will really come into their own in another form, as right now they are undeniably less than ideal to hold and use. Heck, people bitch about the screens on larger Android phones being too large to be comfortable with smaller hands. :lol

Once we evolve the mechanism necessary for input, then I will be first in line for a tablet. Until then I'm fine with my 4 pound laptop that gets 6+ hours of battery life. Oh, and it plays Oblivion maxed out. Not too shabby.

iProduct's medeocrity is its strength. It isn't intimidating or overwhelmiing. It does a few things well, few things horribly, and the gutter-bumpers are in place for the most part...

I am not sold on the tablet form factor yet either. However, they are good for content consumptions for enough people where it is the consumer product de jure...

On point. Again, between my desktop and my phone, I can do all the things that a tablet can do and more. I have a more portable product with my phone and I have my desktop that will do all the things that a tablet can do and more, with more power.

this is probably true now. but not a few years ago. Honda/Toyota's were the cream of the crop with Lexus being fine, fine luxury cars. Now they're shit, it's true.

I think it depends on industry. Some industries such as mobile device, cars, music are pure mediocrity today, but they degraded over time.

I always thought the galaxy note was too big to be a smartphone but too small to be used as a tablet, at least for most people. The galaxy note 10.1 seems to be nice, specially for people who wants to draw on the tablet (like me).
