Actually the downside is this trade would destroy our hope of cap space.
With RJ: Spurs amnesty him in the summer, opening up 10 mill or so
With the trade for SJax: Spurs cannot amnesty Jackson, are only able to open up the amount of the difference between what Duncan is making this season (21 mill) compared to what he signs for AFTER we get under the cap, which wont be much.
Right now we are over the cap a good deal. A Duncan resigning for much less AND a RJ amnesty gets us a huge chunk of cap space, just a Duncan resigning for much less only gets us back under with a little bit of room.
Jackson wouldnt be able to be amnestied bc we didnt sign him to that contract.
Thanks for the explanation. :toast

S-jax has always had the fire and will to win. That is just something RJ never has had and I think bothered the shit out of pop
Amnestying Jefferson make less sense, since Batum and Hibbert will be unavaible.

You knew that team would not stand still, they want to try to win a title at all costs! Lakers can never stand pat with what they have :lol:lol. Beasley is very troubled but talented, hope that one doesn't happen or they give up someone sides shitty Artest for him (I am betting he is in that trade).
Damn. Portland blowing it all up.

Portland maybe trading Wallace also I heard? Nets want him. They might as well blow it up and get another dude in the draft (Horrible luck on Roy and Oden) because this team as is is going nowhere.

I'm not huge on SJax. This team needs backup PG and C help, not more offense on the wing. And given then the cap situation it would put us in, I would rather stay put than add SJax for RJ.
Exactly. They do nothing to address their biggest weakness. The small forward just has to hit 3's and defend well. RJ does the 3's part and can defend well when he's motivated. I am not sure they're going to get much better with SJax. KL can already play good defense at the 3. Getting a big that can defend however will improve the team defense.

Yavo is correct. Spurs would get something for the money & if Tim is getting paid this off season cap space is limited anyways.
I want RJ gone. If that means getting a washed up Jax, fine. At least he has balls.

The spurs do not want to waste 20+ mil. unless that absolutley have too..You talk about amnesting RJ as if though the spurs are off the hook for all the $ he is owed, they are not...
I agree 100%. The Spurs are not a particularly wealthy club which complicates the amnesty plan a good deal. It comes down between which path do the Spurs find more appealing: Swap RJ for Capt. Jack and move forward, or amnesty RJ, take the financial hit but gain cap space for this summer. I think a lot depends on who, if anyone the FO thinks we could get with that cap space. I've never seen FAs line up to come here exactly, so this trade wouldnt surprise me. In the short term I would definitely be a fan of it as well. I guess Hibbert really was always a pipe dream anyway. :(

This year's draft is supposed to be stacked though!
We may have had some flops (mainly due to other player's emergence, like Neal and Green which compromised James Anderon's development - plus don't forget the injury) and Cory Joseph was in a terrible draft pool (no training camp as well).
George Hill was a late 1st rounder, we got Dejuan as well in the 2nd round too. Both proved to be valuable roleplayers.

We have to match salary, and he makes $6M. Bonner/Splitter/Neal for Amir/Ed Davis works. If they're trying to dump salary and we give them Splitter, they're going to have to give more than just Amir's bad contract to us.
DPG21920

Why? Blair/Bonner/Byars works trade wise - gets them Blair for cheap on a one year deal then they can let him walk or re-sign or even waive him this year for nothing. Bonner is only guaranteed 1M next season and Byars is fully unguaranteed.
Would likely take a first rounder too. Some probably still dont think TOR would do this - maybe the wouldn't - but they might find having Blair fill that role for cheaper is worth it when it comes with the savings and the first rounder. Not sure if it's something they would consider or not.
