That's not fair. There is absolutely no risk of Oden being healthy enough to ever play for the Spurs.

True but any player can be injured at any minute. He does have a track record and it would be totaly dumb to offer him anything more then the vet min.

I don't know if you've kept up with him or not, but Oden is seriously broken. I would be shocked if he ever plays a full season in the NBA. I guess it's possible, since Grant Hill came back after several years of being virtually out of the game. But it's a lot harder for a big man, and it definitely isn't going to happen this year. His agent and manager are talking about him "going off the grid" to get fully healthy. Take that to mean a year or more of rehab.

They should claim him, very low risk with upside. He is young and if the micro frac takes this time, he could still have a nice 5-7 year, pair him with TD and Tiago you have a nice rotation again if Oden heals

Because he won't be available when he's healthy. He's 24. If there's a chance that he's healthy enough to play in the next two years, you could potentially get a center who can play for ten years at a high level for the same price as that other guy who sits behind the bench in a suit watching 80 games a year.

If you can sign Oden for a low price, you absolutely do it. Try to remember how good this guy was before the injuries in the NBA.

If you think about what you gain in the best case scenario vs. what you lose in the worst case scenario: No question. This is the definition of a low risk-high reward deal.

A lot of teams are thinking just that.

I that would be a good idea for him.

Obviously, there's little chance of him being what we all expected a few years ago.

I think he will eventually end up with a team committed to managing him properly and he will be a monster of a bench player.

This. Let him take his time. There is no pressure on him here to rush back, and that could be good thing for Oden. Hell,give home next year off too. He could be worth the wait.

They renegotiated his contract last year. He signed a one year deal for 1.5 million dollars so the Blazers wouldn't have to pick up his option.

(1) Even when healthy (relatively) he was a bit of a disappointment. A serviceable big man with some defensive upside, but not a whole lot more.

(2) He seems to have little or no contrition about his situation (not that it his fault, but he took a lot of money and . . .)

(3) He's apparently lazy and undemanding (of himself) in rehab.

All in all, I think he ends up as a footnote in the Kevin Durant Story. Not much more.

He's only played more than 20 minutes about 30 games in his career. He's way more than servicable in those games.

Aside from one Spurstalk poster who claims everyone in Portland knows this about Oden, nobody says anything about Greg Oden's work ethic or effort to get himself back onto the court.
