View Full Version : 10 things i HATE about detroit

hi guys, im back online. still in st croix but i wasn't on here because my internet was down. but Neo is back in the matrix. here is 10 things i hate about detroit. what are yours?
1. That cocky, stupid smile billups does when he does something...anything...good or bad.
2. That Mason guy. 2 years ago he was a frickin nobody washin cars in the neighborhood lot for 50 cents a car. now ABC insists on showing his stupid face while he says B-B-B-Billups.
3. how they call themselves the underdogs and say they aren't respected when every media person is clinging on to their nutsacs (all teeth) for dear life. especially Screamin A**hole Smith. when we win, he credits it to detroit not playing well and he challenges them to play better. when we lose he bashes us and praises detroit.
4. How they cry for fouls when they are allowed to grab, choke, headlock, and Angle slam us as they desire. look at the replay where timmy drives to the basket and scores (he did it twice, one was an and1, i dont remember which one it was tho) one of the times he did it i think it was sheed who grabbed his jersey after he passed him until it was stretched out with no call. i was like wow.
5. The slow, boring was larry brown talks, and that annoying wave of he does to the refs during the game.
6. rasheed's patch.
7. rip boasting about how he is the most fit basketball player in the L, and how bruce isn't shutting him down.
8. lindsey hunter thinking he is bruce bowen.
9. how sheed is always oh so confident and he is usually the reason detroit loses. notice when they lose, commentators always say he has to have a big game next game.
10. how everyone thinks detroit has more heart than anyone else and they can play through adversity. BULLSHYT. they talk about how they lost players. because they were fighting. and ben wallace caused it. then they talk about the coach leaving...so what? then they claim they had a tough path to the finals. sixers...wow. pacers...they basically played the bench and an old reggie. the heat. barely won against a broken down team whose best player didnt play in a closeout gaME. we had the toughest road so dont tell us shyt about adverity. if detroit was in the west they might have been fishing in the first round.

Aside from the Mason thing (I actually think he's great, wish SA's announcer was that hype), I agree with almost everything. That cocky Billups smile is really starting to piss me off. I remember he smiled like that after that non-call flagarant foul on Tony Parker in Game 4 where Tony ended up on the floor with his head is his hands.
I remember the thread "Detroit fans....what do you hate most about San Antonio" and someone asked a Detroit fan: "Why do you think of Robert Horry?" and the dude responded by: "He's just a basketball player and hasn't done anything to hurt Detroit. So I have no problem with him."

You're exactly right. I mean, isn't the media playing the role of feeding the public shit so they root for Detroit? I mean, the halftime show last night, how they show Mason on the corner of the screen, etc, all indicate that ABC wants the public to loooooooooooooove the Pistons.

I think my biggest peeve about them is how they want to be seen as underdogs, even when the media was split about 50-50 on their picks. You're the fucking defending champs! How the hell are they supposed to be underdogs. The translation I hear everytime they talk about that line, "Well this way if we lose people don't consider us failures." Complete and utter bullshit.

EXACTLY!!!!! and all this (good under pressure...good with back against the wall...good through anymousity...) oh PLEASE. it was all self inflicted. all those teams they "fought back" from last year and this year were teams that were supposed to be swept, under the circumstances.

3.Bruce Bowen "Does play dirty"
4.Robert Horry's mouth is so big, his smile is way more annoying then Billups
5.Spurs fans think they played tougher teams then we did...
6.Spurs are jealous because we have better fans then they do...
7.The media talks about us always argueing with the refs then Duncan and Popavich get tech's.
8.Bruce Bowen thinks hes Lindsey Hunter...
9.Spurs horrible nicknames...
10.Parkers girlfriend...
Okay theres my 10 things I'll tell you it was really hard for me to think of 10 things because I actually like the Spurs. Just to clarify about Mason...
he has been the most successful Morning DJ in Detroit for a LONG time. He was the morning voice for "Strong songs" WJLB, one of the real groundbreaking stations in the "urban" market. (not my term, that's an actual radio term) He was number one in a top ten market for probably ten years.
So...he was not "washing cars." He was pulling down more than a million bucks a year, and still does.
He truly was a groundbreaker in getting funk and rap to the top of the heap in Motown radio. He crossed racial lines, and had a very loyal audience. He will be in the Michigan broadcast hall of fame quite soon.
The rest of the stuff just comes with a series. You start to dislike the guys that give you trouble. But lay off Mason. He's a pro's pro.
Mason is pretty cool. I wish he was the announcer for the Spurs. Most Spurs fans are jealous because the Detroit intro is pretty cool. Even though they are smashing a Spurs logo, it's pretty cool when the starters say: It's time Detroit.

Ok, those 2 are a little crazy. I think Hunter thinks he's Bowen, not the other way around. And:
Spurs:
Denver-Lost only 3 or 4 games after AS break, hottest team in the NBA in the opening round
Seattle-Suprise team in the West, although with the injuries they had, we should have taken them better, I'll admit
Suns-Best record in the NBA
Detroit:
76ERS-I know I'm from Philly, but honestly, this round was a Gimme.
Pacers-Injured team, much like Seattle, you should have taken them better
Heat-Injured Shaq, Injured Wade last 2 games, honestly. Best record in the EAST where the only competition is between Heat and Pistons.
Whatever though. Past is in the Past. The fact that both teams got here in the first place says a lot.

You guys need to lighten up. Pretty hypocritical of you to complain about our players smiling when Robert Horry was grabbing his balls last night. Take off the blinders: the Spurs aren't saints either.
As for the Rip mask: He is required for medical reasons to wear it. If he breaks his nose again he's done, and risks permanant breathing complications. So yeah, some gimmick :rolleyes

I think we played teams tougher for ourselves. The Pistons would have swept Denver and Phoenix. Seattle was a darn good fighting team, they just stepped it up really. We would have swept Philly, Indiana would have given us a little trouble, Miami would have gone to Six. Both teams deserve to be hear, but I know that is what you are saying, too.

Its too bad you dont know John Masons real story. He was the first african american to have a #1 rated morning show in Detroit, and he has set standards in todays radio that are almost untouchable for anyone to achieve. He is an icon in Detroit and has been for years. He took a primarly urban station and made it mainstream to a metro area that is made up of upper class primarly white people.

yes pistons we got it-you actually have the advantage when you lose, good for you

He has had several very good ones in this series.

After games 3-4, I started trying to come down on Piston fans that were crapping on the city of San Antonio, but those two days weren't exactly proud ones for the Detroit fans that were just here to talk basketball. I kind of gave up on that.

Detroit’s rough play has brought out the best in Tony parker....

Listen brother. I've been here from the start, talking mostly about basketball, having fun with some other "fun threads", but I've taken enough beatings after the loss's for everybody because certain Pistons fans only come back when the times are good. I've given tons of props to the Spurs. Have you been here all series? Probably not.

for the guy who said we whouldnt want to watch sports where players show no emition, if your detroit players need mason to get them to show emotion, you all have serious problems

This is why, IMO, the word "hate" should never be used in reference to sports. Sports are just games, in the grand scheme of things not as important as we make them out to be.

Good afternoon and I must make this brief because my wife is making me go get some groceries (We have lots of potato chips, what more do we need :) ), I'm not calling out "Spurs fans", if I comment on a post it is meant for that person and if anyone feels my comments apply to them so be it.
IMHO anyone regardless of who they root for, whose central theme in a post is to espouse hate, senselessy ridicule, or talk trash isn't much of a fan.
Respectfully,
Christian Marlowe
p.s. If you want to call out hulkarock go for it, I have bigger wars to fight, like my wife glaring at me as I continue to interact on this board instead of going to the store. :lol

The Spurs need a whole makeover when it comes to game-time music and announcing. I actually really dislike our guy's voice. Sounds like a tax accountant.

Nah, if we lose it will be to a classy coach, organization and a great Spurs team.
I'll wash 'em down with the usual, BigK diet orange. :)

They interviewed that guy after that picture came out and he said he was sitting there watching it all unfold and before he knew it, Artest was coming at him looking for anyone to pound on.

You're exactly right. I mean, isn't the media playing the role of feeding the public shit so they root for Detroit? I mean, the halftime show last night, how they show Mason on the corner of the screen, etc, all indicate that ABC wants the public to loooooooooooooove the Pistons.
The media is building themselves up for failure.
I'd say 80% of the audience are bandwaggoners, and when they kept hearing how Phoenix vs. Miami would be so much more entertaining, they will think that's really the case. This is self-actualizing prophecy. And now that Spurs and Pistons actually made it, they kept saying how the Pistons are better and should win. What is the casual fan who can't tell a box-out from take-out? THey are going to think that the NBA is a total joke, they are going to think that the inferior team have a great chance in winning because luck has more to do with winning than skills. These things turn people off. Instead, teach them about the game, educate them about the beauty of a well-time pick (vs. a moving screen), teach them about the importance of swinging the basketball to the opposite side, teach them about how Bowen is harrassing his man into missing shots rather than having them think that it's just coincidence that Bowen's man happen to miss shots for the 7th game in a row.
I am just shocked that they haven't figured this out yet.

They would have loved to see the Heast play the Spurs and they would also loved to see Shaq's prediction come true and beat the Spurs. The ratings are down this year.

Man, you guys suck. We haven't said anything like this on the Detroit boards. Chauncey doesn't have a cocky smile, either, that's just the way his mouth is. Ben doesn't flop. RIP doesn't flop. There are a lot of things I don't like about SA (msotly their holier-than-thou fans) but I don't voice them like this.
Ben and RIP doesn't flop? This is good.
BTW, I do think Ginobili flops, but who doesn't.
And I like Billups, I would love to have him on my team.

Although I don't respect "the flop" it's a players obligation to do anything he can get away with while helping his team win, be it flopping, grabbing, illegal picking, etc.
The most blatant one I've seen in these playoffs was when Tayshaun barely bumped Wade and Wade looked like he got shot out of a cannon, dude must have been in theatre and gymnastics! :lol

and the bastard had the nerve to say his nba suspension was too harsh?
:rolleyes
I really really hope he gets some type of actual jail time - 30 days 60 days whatever - although I'm sure he won't. most likely fine, comunity service or someother bullshit.
and Stephon jackson... god I'm so ashamed to say he ever played in SA. If he pulled that crap under pop he would've been traded by the end of the day. garaunteed. :fro

With the name Hulkarock, and the first two words of your post, "Listen Brother", I really.. really.. REALLY wanted to eat my vegetables, drink my milk and watch a little Wrestlemania III with all the other Hulk Hogan "Hulkamaniacs".
I'm not going to fight with you. You've said some pretty stupid things during the series, and to answer your insinuation, yes.. I *HAVE* been here the entire series.
As for that 'owned' pic, that's freaking hilarious. Unfortunately, that wasn't the guy that threw the cup.
