Didnt he do that during the 03' championship celebration at the Alamdome? They gave him the mic, he said something along the lines of thanks for the support we couldnt have done it without you, threw up a peace sign, and handed the mic to the next person. Manu did a really nice interview also a day or so ago saying how Bruce really helped him develop as a player by having to face him in practice everyday and understanding what opposing players felt like after facing him. He seemed to give a lot of the credit to Bruce. Very nice ceremony. Bruce is great and will always be remembered as one of the Big 4 and a part of our championship teams. So who's next. Manu or Tim?

I was thinking the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if they had Tim/Tony/Manu on the same night.

They should also give Tim/Tony/Manu their own "row" up in the rafters (with Tim claiming the middle jersey, Manu claiming the left side, Tony claiming the right side). Damn, just think about how poetic and metaphorical that would be. Tim being the "center." Manu being left-handed :lol

I say give the Big 3 their own row beneath the current retired jerseys.

In that case I cant really blame him and wouldnt it call it hating, I dont think most people realize how big of a role Bruce really played on the team. It was a no-brainer that his jersey would be retired, tbh.

For the record, I totally agree with #12 hanging in the rafters.

For those who don't though, the chance that Bowen's # wouldn't get retired dropped to 0% once the Spurs hung Avery Johnsons 6 up there. That was something I didn't really like. If that wasn't hanging up there than you could try to make a case that 12 didn't belong.

Not denigrating 6. I should have been more clear. At the time, I was against his # getting retired because like Boyle, I thought only very few should get that honor. As time went on though I see the type of valuable players you can have who don't always show up in stat sheets (like Bruce).

There's really no reason to argue it, you either think they should have there jerseys retired or you think that honors reserved for the best of the best. Nobody is right or wrong.

I couldn't be happier for him.

Unless Stern retroactively awarded him the 2 or 3 DPOY awards he should have gotten.

I have to say being in the building for that tonight was an amazing feeling. Sucked a little cause I had to focus on my employees, but I got to see the moment the banner was revealed, and heard most of Bruce's speech. I got chills when the banner came down. It was almost as cool as being there for the banners in 05 and 07 that Bruce helped us win!

Great ceremony, was awesome to see the team showing so much love to a guy that really earned his spot through hard work and dedication. He was the Deion Sanders of this team...you put 12 on the other team's best perimeter scorer and didn't worry about it the rest of the night. Definitely deserved to have his jersey in the rafters, was really glad I made the trip down to be there in person.

Bruce's two kids and Tim's two kids are the same ages (4 and 6, I believe) and their families spend a lot of time together.
Yep...and Amy and the kids were in the house. They were sitting a few seats over right behind Bruce at center court.

Just got home from the game. Great game and even better ceremony! Cheers to the best perimeter defender to ever wear a Spurs jersey!

Great ceremony.

Conspiciously absent were the other Spiurs legends who have their jerseys retired: Gervin, Silas, and Moore. I know Bruce is from a different era, but I wonder why they didn't bother to attend?

The Admiral and Sean Elliott got big pops from the crowd. It was awesome seeing them all on the court together again with Pop. Buford looked uncomfortable through the whole preceeding. I think he's a bit crowd shy :lol

I noticed that too.

In fact, Buford looked like he was about to cry when Bruce was telling stories about him.

This is a great picture. It was wonderful seeing this ceremony live. Since I've converted to DirecTV and gotten rid of cable, I'm able to see the entire postgame show - and this was the first jersey retirement ceremony that I was able to see.

Job well done by the Spurs and congrats to Bruce on a stellar career achievement.

I was afraid I was going to miss the game and offered my tickets up. Ended up having to postpone my project at work which allowed me to go. It was great being able to scream BRUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCEE!!! A few more times to the man on the court. The usher downstairs even let people go down there during the retirement ceremony without tickets, so I got to see it from the 5th row.

Glad I went, I was late to the game but was able to see the entire ceremony. DRob got a ridiculous standing ovation from the crowd. Bruce ribbing on Timmy going "2-1.. 1-2 see?" and making fun of him for how many times people wanted to take Bruces picture when Tim would show up by him. I was a little sad that Tim didnt say anything, but he is notoriously shy.

TO BRUCE!! :lobt2::lobt2::lobt2::toast
