My Thoughts on Bruce....

I never was a big fan but looking back over that period of time, he was the Spurs. He was an enforcer. He was a champion and his number belongs up there in the top of the ATT Center.

A few months ago, I was playing golf at Briggs Ranch and it was early in the morning. There was a frost delay and we were delayed 30 minutes. We were the first group scheduled. We were going to the number one tee when the starter came and asked us if we would let another group go ahead of us. A twosome. They would play quick. All of a sudden a cart pulled up and it was Bruce Bowen and another guy. Of course we moved out of the way and let them go ahead of us.

He was so cool and genuine with us. He joked with me that we had the same haircut. Throughout the round and catching up to them, he seemed just like another golfer, talking shit on the course...pissed off that I hit into him on a par 5... It was funny.

After the round, I searched for him and asked him one question. Mr. Bowen, will you take a picture with me. Of course he said yes, I am SequSpur right?

This dude is black and silver. What the Spurs are all about. Winning games, kicking ass and dominating.

I work close to the airport and would drive to Golf Galaxy on my lunch break at times and check out clubs for sale and what not. One time I was standing near the golf simulator waiting in line to test out a club when Bruce Bowen comes up to me and asks me If I could tell him where he could find the kids clubs. I was caught off guard and my first instinct was to tell him "Bruce, I don't work here!". Bruce laughed it off and was like my bad you look just like a golfer I thought you worked here. I laughed back and thought Holy freaking shit that's Bruce Fucking Bowen. I then told Bruce where he could find the clubs and he said thanks. The man was freaking so down to earth and cool. I always regretted not asking him to take a pic. But I've run into Ice man in Edwin Watts all the time so I know I may get another chance. Here's to Bruce!:toast

I've got a very short, funny story on Bruce.

Last year, I'm visiting San Antonio for Labor Day weekend. I meet some friends at a fund-raising event / mixer at a posh lounge in North San Antonio. I'm stainding outside in front of the lounge, talking to one of my college buddies, whose fraternity is hosting this social. All of us sudden, a sleek, shiny, silver Mercedes pulls up and parks. Up walks a tall, slender casual, but impeccably-dressed, Bruce Bowen. He stands behind me, thinking I'm in line. I turn to him and say, "you can go up, my man. I'm not in line". He thanks me. As he's passing me, I ask him, "hey Bruce, since the Spurs are having some defensive issues, can you suit up and give us about 10 mins per game of tough defense?". He smiles and says, "in my state, I couldn't give even 10 secs of anything at this point. It's a young man's game. I'll leave it to them."

Priceless. He really strikes me as a good dude.
