Im thinking of the flip side... But each arguement can be null and void
1. RJ kept us in the play offs, False the big three kept us in the playoffs
2. It kept us from going into a downward spiral, false the big three kept them afloat
3. It got us Captain Jack....why not!

Bruce understands that it's a business. But I know it broke his heart. He would have played 1, maybe 2 more years, but only for the Spurs. On the flipside, he was on the decline- and maybe it was a good thing that he retired before he did any more damage to his knees. Buford, I think, regrets the decision as well, but what's done is done. Bruce obviously isn't still holding a grudge.

That's another of the things I love about Bruce...
I think I am probably more pissed than Bruce is at how Pop betrayed him with Finley.

Glad he retired a Spur. Even though he lost a step, I'm glad I didn't have to see him in a Mav, Laker or Heat jersey defending Manu or Tony.

I really don't believe Bruce lost as much as most people do...a step, no...a half step, yes. I think it was a combination of Bruce losing some lateral quickness and the league becoming guard oriented. The evolution of the way the game is called on the perimeter reduced Bruce's defensive skill set.
I will always have the utmost respect for Bruce. Getting passed over for defensive player of the year for the likes of Artest and Wallace was a travesty imho.

Yeah, I actually believed Bowen had another year in him, too. IRRC, at that time, Bruce was about as productive as any other swingman the Spurs had - not named Ginobili. Finley was clearly done and HE should've been the one to have been jettisoned from the team.
For all of RJ's suckiness, I really wished the Spurs could've traded for Jack, back then, instead of him. However, I admit that I do not remember the circumstances with Jack's status.
It's too bad Bruce wasn't able to finish his career on his own terms, but the jersey retirement ceremony was certainly a fitting tribute to a guy that contributed so much to this organization and to the community.

That is A nice banner, very nice. Every team should have ONE. I sure am glad my favorite team has raised a banner or 2. I, I mean FOUR!!!! I'm not a mathematician, but I believe that is FOUR times the banners the Mavericks have hung!

Honestly Bruce in my eyes was done in the spring of '08 it was clear against the Hornets. I remember Bruce struggling to stay in front of CP3 in that series that we had to switch him in front of Peja. There is no shame in the fact that he couldn't guard CP3 considering CP3 is one of the quickest guards in the league but it was a sign that Bruce no longer had the quickness necessary to stay in front of the most athletic wing players.
