I was driving to the licker store and heard the Scorpions (I think) doing Tainted Love. I was wondering if they could face legal action?

I wasn't sure and the spellcheck doesn't apply to the titles. So I over exaggggerated everything with the hope that no one would bring it up.

While on the subject of covers. Who didn't think this belonged to Eric Burdon and the Animals?

lol boilerplate mookie crew reply to this topic

I'm not real sure what that means but I like the JC version pretty well. In fact whatever he decides to cover is ok by me. from heretofore, Johnny Cash is excluded from the aformentioned masterdebate.

There was some alt-rock band that covered the Cranberries' "Zombie" a few years ago, and it basically sounded identical to the original... Considering the original was only about 10 years old at the time, having the new one in regular radio rotation seemed pretty unnecessary.

So close to the original it sounded like karaoke.

^^ but, to be fair, those are two completely different versions and really isn't a "true" cover of the original. Stevie rocks it better, though :toast

I disagree, but I don't dislike the Cash version. Actually, if you watch the video it really takes on some meaning.

I also like the UKJ version of Cats in the Cradle.

It meant something when Cash sung it. No one doubted he knew what the lyrics meant.

Covers can be great, but if it's of a song you already love, it can be hard to get past your own mindset regarding the "classic".

I have a friend who loves covers and it's kinda like a hobby to him to compare and contrast versions. He recently sent me a cd with 9 different versions of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", which is a song I am familiar with but have always been indifferent to. It's almost like it's 9 completely different songs! A couple are really terrible, some are pretty damn good (Todd Rundgren, Jeff Healey), with the original somewhere around the middle. But when I heard a version by an unexpected grouping of Carlos Santana, YoYo Ma, and India.Arie, I thought "Now that's what this song was meant to be!" Spine tingling :toast

There's a hundred-thousand humorous jokes on this site. You don't seem to know any of them, or how to tell them effectively. I'll troll for you from now on.

If I troll for you, you get your laughs. You tell me where we start, where we're going, where we're going afterwards. I give you five minutes when we get there. Anything happens in that five minutes and I'm yours. No matter what. Anything a minute on either side of that and you're on your own. I don't sit in while you're making stupid jokes. I don't carry a gun. I troll.

Rod Stewart's got a whole catalogue of them. And do the ones from the cast of Glee even count? Pandora tried to play me their version of Sweet Caroline and it filled me with a murderous rage.

A couple of their mash-ups are ok.
