View Full Version : Monty Williams responds to the media's childish reaction to Smith punking Griffin

Williams was visibly upset by what he perceives to be unfair treatment of Smith by the national media since Thursday’s flagrant foul of Blake Griffin. Smith missed 20-plus games with a concussion after being struck in the head twice against the Pistons on Feb. 4. Williams: “To me, as a league, I wish everybody would have gotten on their platform or soapbox screaming for Jason when he got knocked out in Detroit. He got knocked out twice – no foul, no flagrant (was called). And yet we’ve got guys on TV acting a fool, saying that (Smith’s) apology meant nothing. To me, that’s just wrong. What Jason did was absolutely wrong, I told him it was wrong, he apologized for it, he got (suspended) two games for it. Which I thought was warranted. But he didn’t get the same defense when he got knocked out in Detroit. We were looked at as a team that shouldn’t have been heard from (in terms of complaining). I just didn’t think Jason got the same defense as Blake got. And to me, that’s wrong.”

sons one of the best user comments on ESPN and I was thinking the same damn thing when I was at the game ...

"Griffin was showboating, posing, staring guys down, and jawing with Smith all night. The Clipper players were jumping up from the bench, hooting and hollering for every dunk. A message was sent. People can call whatever they want, but there was no more dunking...and the Hornets won."

When you have a terrible team and fan base, you should shut up because no one cares. Truth.

NBA=showboating business.

Dont act as if this is new.

Dude should not have even apologized. Its no wonder why people think he's coming off as insincere with his apology. You purposefully flatten a guy and then you apologize? Have some balls.

The apology was shit. Shit player and franchise. He meant what he did, not his apology. No one stood up for him when he got drilled worse than BR's wife because he sucks and his team sucks. Truth.

I will have to say that foul was chicken shit from smith, but if griffin was acting a fool and showboating all game then I would say a message needed to be sent to cut that shit out. NBA fans of today would shit themselves over fouls commited during the 70's-80's...all this flopping and posturing during games is getting annoying!

i saw nothing wrong in that foul, just a hard foul....blake clearly made it look worst then it is by flopping like a bitch, which i thought at leasts a NOH player shouldve told him to gtfu or gtfo

What a bunch of ho's. Smith didn't do it to a guard and he didnt go after guy's head. It was body-to-body. I get that everyone likes Blake, but I still can't believe how much negative attention this got.

That entire team acts silly as hell anytime Blake throws it down. If they want to act like kids, then they're going to get treated like kids.

Greg Monroe took a brutal cheap shot at Smith giving him a concussion and knocking him out for a month. Monty is right. The media are just blow-jobbing hypocrites.

Agreed! The so-called flagrant wasn't even a flagrant foul! It was a hard foul and Griffin deserved it for all of his showboating that night! Overblown and overreaction from the media on the showboating Griffin! Griffin faked it by flopping like fish kind of reminded me of Nash oversellng it when Horry hipchecked him!

I've seen way worse fouls not even being called. Like Love's stump on Scola's face, Josh Howard punch on Manu's face while being dunked on in 07 (one of the best Ginobili dunks all time) among others....
