I don't think them winning a series in the post season should be categorized as an 'upset' anymore they're legit.

Last year's upset cannot go unpunish.

With Randolph back they'll finish higher than 6th seed.... If wouldn't be a surprise if they finish 3rd in the West

Yeah. I'm sure the West as a whole is quaking in their shoes at the thought of playing the Lakers. Every team now knows they'll have a 5-4 advantage on court since the Lakers feature no legitimate NBA player outside their big 4.

Tonight two things happened that normally wouldn't:

1) Bynum had 4 rebs (avg 12.5)
2) Big Hah Dadday had 10 points (avg 1.8)

Neither of those two would happen in the playoffs. Non-issue

Other things that also normally wouldn't happen:

Gasol pulling down 14 rebounds (avg 10.4)

30 to 10 freethrow advantage against a team that predominantly plays inside, making 27 of those.

Quit being a fuckin' homer for once. The Lakers lack of depth should be a real concern.

What actually sticks out to me more than this is that the Lakers shot way more free throws than the Grizz and were still getting their asses kicked. I don't think a disparity like that is as likely to happen in the playoffs.

Yep, legit team for sure. Like I said before, OKC can win the West just as long as they avoid Memphis. This team is built to upset.

Then you are not thinking clearly. All "inside-out" teams shoot more FTs than jump shooting teams. The Lakers have 3 legit low post players that can do damage down low.

Memphis is primarily a P&R jumpshot shooting team. How many dunks did you see their all star center making? How about Z Bo?

You stay outside shooting jumpers and you won't get many whistles. You play in the paint - you get hacked more often and get more FTAs.

Case in point: 2002 WCF. People said it was rigged. I say the Lakers went inside early and often in that 4th quarter. Earned FTAs. Queens then choked. To take it further, C-Webb and Vlade are jumpshooters that don't like to defend the post. Lakers went inside to Shaq. Kobe raped Doug Christie. Then Horry finished them off. It happens (FT disparities that is).

Rofl calling Memphis primarily a PnR jumpshooting team when Randolph is primarily a low-post player. Memphis averages a half-less FT attempt per game than the Lakers, and that's with Z-Bo being out for most of the year.

At least when Kobe walks out of the arena, he gets to see the statue of a real team player in Magic Johnson, who obviously did not have a magic johnson.

No. Just explaining to Lkrfan that Memphis does indeed play on the inside quite a bit, which explains why they get to the line about as much as the Lakers do.

An 8 seed beating a 1 seed is an upset, there's really no way around that.

I can't believe Memphis won with Rudy Gay leading them in shots :wow

They woulda won by 30 if he was injured.

Memphis w/o Rudy Gay = sheer dominance

IMO the Grizzlies will eventually have to get rid of Hollins + see Mayo and Gay grow up to become a contender, but they have the talent or close to it. Hollins gets tons of credit for making Memphis a good (borderline great) defensive team when the 2010 Grizzlies were a below average defensive team with him as coach, then the next season they got better defensively as Tony Allen started to get more minutes. Them becoming a defense first team was Allen more than it was Hollins. Even if their defense improves Conley and Mayo need to become much better and efficient offensively.
