Starting a franchise is a weak argument. To start a franchise, as rookies you can get why hakeem was taken over Jordan heck some even get why Bowie was taken by the Blazers over him as well. I think the ring comparison is towards the superstar players and that's the way it should be. There's plenty of old Celtic dudes with 10,9 and 8 rings. Horry with seven but wouldn't be considered a HOF player or superstar at any level. Great role player. Same with Kerr and alike.

The one problem I will have with the ring comparison with Laker fans is how it's used when Kobe and LeBron is compared but often shunned when Kobe and Jordan are compared.

No it's not. If you calculate winning percentages, 4-0 is 1.000 and 5-2 is 0.714. You might say 7 appearances are better than 4, but from the other team's perspective, those are 3 potential future wins.

Starting a franchise is a weak argument. To start a franchise, as rookies you can get why hakeem was taken over Jordan heck some even get why Bowie was taken by the Blazers over him as well. Or how about Oden over durant? That doesn't mean Jordan wasn't better. Duncan was the better player for the first half of his career no doubt about it. Then Kobe was on the same level but still behind.

That makes no sense. If you could go back and redraft, 10/10 coaches would take Jordan over Hakeem. He's the best player of all time (arguably), and no one would ever not take Jordan first if they could get him as a rook.


Duncan in a draft of course would get chosen over a HS kid, even one as good as Kobe. Duncan went to four years of college and was ready to be a star immediately.

I completely disagree with you, but feel free to think what you want. Neither of us are objective in this situation, but Tim Duncan has never, ever had chemistry issues with this team, and IMO that counts for a lot in the long run.


But the last 5 seasons Kobe has been better and increasingly so. Either way it's still close. but Kobe is better.

And yet, given the fact that if both players were rookies, I'm betting almost every NBA coach would take Duncan and not look back.
