View Full Version : It's the WCF and we're down by 3. Who gets the shot? Neal or Stephen Jackson?

With Neal's amazing amount of clutch moments in such a short time in the league, I'd prefer if we drew a play up for him. Not to say I don't trust Jackson as he's hit his fair share of late game shots.

If you had the choice between Stephen Jackson or Gary Neal taking the potential game tying 3. Who would you choose?

Of the two, Neal.
But it's nice to see we have multiple options to shoot it even if those two aren't available. I've never seen a team where so many players are legitimate three point threats.

The only ones I don't want taking it are Tim, Tiago, DeJuan and playoff Bonner. :lol

It's never the star, but some obscure player that makes the big shot. So, in my scenario it is the last game of the finals, we're down by two, and TP has been battling stomach cramps all game from some Chicago restaurant that tried to poison him. He can't make it, so the ball goes to Manu who is double teamed and drops it off to Diaw.

Diaw gets rid of the ball as fast as he can and the only open player is Patty Mills who tosses a high arching shot over the outstretched arm of Noah, ans swish nothing but net.

Unfortunately, Joey Crawford is calling the game and says Mills little toe was on the line and the replay is inconclusive. Overtime, we go.

And before overtime starts, Tim's caught laughing at the call and is promptly T'd up and the Spurs lose by 1.

The answer is Bonner. Clear out for Tony or Manu. He penetrates the lane, help comes, kick out to Jack in the corner. With the defense late rotating, he kicks it to Neal on the wing. With a defender rushing at him, Neal makes one more pass to a wide open Bonner standing at the top of the key. The shot goes up...

My first choice would be Neal, but I will take the open shot from either Neal, Jackson, Ginobili or Bonner. BTW, as long as it is not game 7 then we still have another chance.

Here's how I see it. Neither of these guys waiver on taking jumpshots in the clutch. I'd take Neal because he is a pure shooter unless Jackson is hot, as he is a streak shooter.

However, if I need my guy to hit free throws, Manu all the way.

Manu, Neal, Buckets, Tony (I could actually see him hitting one), Tim (for a rebound/backtap).

Real Deal Neal. He proved last year that he can hit the pressure 3 in a playoff game.

Run a play to fake Manu taking the shot, get the D to bite, and kick it to Gary.

Between Neal and Jackson, Gary has the quicker release, too. Plus ice water in his veins.

Honestly I'd give the ball to Manu/Neal still. That Grizz game in the playoffs last year w Manu's ridiculous shot can only be made by clutch players. People seem to forget his shit due to Neal's buzzer beater.

spursince#99

Tbh people forget that prior to the Spurs choking in the final minute, Booner made two clutch three pointers to give the Spurs the leasd in Game 1 against Memphis. Booner is an ice cold assasin, Id go with him.

The guy who inbounds the ball. Always cover the inbounds passer. I would have to go with the shooter with the hot hand. Bonner, Jackson, Neal, Manu, Green, Parker and even James Anderson(he can shoot). With that many shooters, one of them should be hotter than the rest.

What's awesome is that this actually a discussion! In my mind, it's the combo of Neal, Action Jackson, and Manu that makes it such a tough choice. In the final seconds, down by three.... Fuck, I would hate to be Pop. That's a really tough choice to draw a play for. Gotta go with the hot hand, but it's a nice problem to have that not too many teams can claim!

Horry averaged less than 3 points a game in that series. He was horrible and a total non-factor, so Manu didn't "miss" him. He knew Horry was no longer a viable option.

None of the above.

Pass inside to Timmy, who dunks and draws the foul.

He bounces the "and 1" shot off the front of the rim, charges forward and grabs the rebound and dunks again.

Spurs win by 1. :hat
