Called it at half time - we've turned up the D in the 4th, now taking control.
No point wasting energy in a wide open game during the first 3 Qs.
I guess the spurs were wating till the 4th to play D going to be tougher though with the suns starters coming back in
They are still getting good looks, just missing shots. Don't mistake that for good defense.

I'm with you on that. And when specialists are on the court and open he likes to jack 3s too. Not that I should question Manu, but I've noticed.

Seems odd but I prefer he jack 3's up every so often (especially with his little step back that he likes to do).
Everytime he gets an open look, I almost always thinks he is gonna miss it, and my hunch is correct about 90% of the time.
It really sucks, too, since you know he's a great 3pt shooter but he simply can't knock them down.

Spurs 6-27 from 3 lmfao
4th game in 5 nights = no legs for threes. I wouldn't expect them to shoot them too well tomorrow, or most of April, tbh.
Hopefully they'll get their strokes back by the playoffs.

I saw people in this thread begging the Spurs to keep Phoenix below 100 and thought "there must be a vbookie on this or something."
Nope. This is merely a reflection of how spoiled we've become over the years :lol
Most teams (especially the 9, 10, 11 spots in the West) would be begging for a win and a playoff spot.
A 'W' just isn't enough for us these days :lol

So you panic every game because of a 1 in 30 game event? Try reading the rhythm of the game in front of you instead. Every basketball game has a pulse.
We clearly had this game from the moment we turned up the D in the 4th - they couldn't score, so it didn't even matter that we had a 4 minute scoring drought.
All I said was the game wasn't over, there was something like 2 mins left with a 9 point lead. The Suns have the ability to shoot 3s at a high pace and Brown was already hot. I hardly consider that panicking.

This Spurs team continues to amaze me! If they continue to find ways to win when their best offensive weapon, the 3-ball, is not falling I begin to have even higher hopes for a championship run.
I also like how Manu is rounding into form, Tim is looking spry, and Tony continues to "make love to pressure".

Do you think there's any hope Pop will go to Jax/Diaw instead in the playoffs? Naw, I'm wishing for the impossible, aren't I? :lol

I cling to the hope of Memphis game 1. But if he falters Pop will have a shorter rope now that there are some other options.

As hot as the Suns were tonight, their extra "tire change" did-them-in tonight. They sat Nash 1 1/2 - 2 minutes too long in the 4th.

Diaw with a +14 (highest of the game) tonight: Spurs had the lead prior to Diaw going to the bench after 6 min in the 1st half; after finally coming back into the game late 3rd quarter, most of the 4th for 12 minutes, Spurs regained and held the lead. Really impressed with his post defense tonight, although he still has trouble when he is at a stand still in the paint and has to slide back to his man who receives a pass (received a couple of fouls in those type of defensive scenarios).

I don't know about that. He still has flashes of him coming back into form but he's still not right. I noticed he's never getting to the FT line anymore (I don't know how much of it is from the refs not calling anything or if it's because Manu's just chucking up shots and not driving anymore.)

No, actually, you said "we are done" with about 3 min to go in the third quarter. I picked you up on it at the time. You do it every game whenever we have a stretch of poor play.
Also, by the fourth quarter Brown was not hot. He was hot in the first and second quarters, did very little in the second half. That's the kind of thing I'm referring to when I say read the pulse of the game.
I hope Tiago plays tomorrow.

Spurs played better defense than it seemed, even in the first half. Suns only 14 assists on 41 made field goals. That's a lot of contested isos.

Who gives a shit. The defense in the 4th quarter was gold and that's all that matters because defense wins championships. We pulled that shit ALL THE TIME in years like 2003, even in the playoffs, where our offense got stagnant late but we grinded out ball games for wins consistently anyway because of our defense.
Well said. This was exactly that kind of game - we were lazy on D for three Qs then turned it up when it mattered and stopped them scoring. That is exactly how we won a lot of games during our heyday.

Drove plenty last game. Didn't get any calls. I think he'll have to play a few more games before refs remember, "Oh yeah, this guy's pretty good, we should give him some calls."

I think he is just being a bit too passive. It is not showing in his assist totals but I can definitely tell he is trying to set up others first. You are right, he still is not quite there, but I think he is progressing well. I also think he is building a bit of chemistry with Diaw.

I didn't say the shotclock thing to criticize the team. I was just explaining why they finished 0-of-9. They were playing clockball and missed some threes.

No, actually, you said "we are done" with about 3 min to go in the third quarter. I picked you up on it at the time. You do it every game whenever we have a stretch of poor play.
At the time the Spurs were stalled offensively and couldn't play any D worth a damn. They had scored 2 points while the Suns had scored 12 or 14. I also posted that about 5 mins into the half. I also only ever recall posting something like that maybe 3 or 4 other games, and I'm also not one of the only ones to do it. Call it GNSF, but I tend to get passionate during the game and get pessimistic at times when the Spurs execute poorly.
Also, by the fourth quarter Brown was not hot. He was hot in the first and second quarters, did very little in the second half. That's the kind of thing I'm referring to when I say read the pulse of the game.
Brown was a good part of that run, where he scored 5 straight off of the same screens Green had been falling for all game. He cooled off after I posted and the Spurs began to settle into their rhythm. The Spurs didn't start playing good D until the 4th. Yes by the time the 4th was winding down the Suns had cooled off, but there have been times this season where either the Spurs or the Suns' opponents have taken their foot of the gas and there has been a run. Best just to play a full 48 mins than stop a bit beforehand.
