Could the big college football rivalry in Texas be renewed?
Back in November, we told you about a Texas state representative's efforts to get the Texas A&M-University of Texas football game back up and running despite the Aggies' move to the Southeastern Conference and an apparent lack of desire by the Longhorns to continue the Lone Star Showdown.
Now, that representative says there may be progress.
Lyle Larson of San Antonio -- himself an Aggie grad -- has been working over the last few months with leaders of the maroon and burnt orange persuasions. While a game in 2012 is not going to happen by every indication, Rep. Larson says a 2013 Lone Star Showdown is his goal. He says there's a possibility that it could take place at a neutral site, and that corporate sponsors have shown interest in putting their dollars behind the game.
In a letter to A&M and UT leaders just about a week ago, Larson wrote, "We realize that the 2012 schedule has been set and that the universities are precluded from playing one another in the fall. However, my hope is that the leaders of both UT and Texas A&M can put their differences aside and make a sincere effort to add this game to the schedule in 2013 and into the future."
News 3 has not received a response from UT President Bill Powers office, but A&M Vice President for Marketing and Communications Jason Cook said "Rep. Larson is fully aware of President Loftin's desire to continue the rivalry in the future. We have been very public and consistent about our position."

I hope Deloss offers to bring it back at a 2 for 1 with 2 home games for Texas and one neutral site for aggsy. In San Antonio.

Can't control what Larson is trying to do. Most others could give 2 shits about playing y'all anymore. Unfortunately, Larson is the only one with any kind of pull.
Plus, don't flatter yourself, this is about 1 thing and that's money. Nothing else.

Yes. We can tell from the collective butthurt that emotes from Aggy every time this topic is broached.

i for one, want A&M and t.u. to play. my guess is both fan-bases want the game, they just may not admit such a 'crazy weak thought'
its as Texas as anything else. fucking travesty, otherwise.

Your guess would be wrong.
Texas the University has a advantage over every other University in America. It's sitting on a goldmine it is trying to protect. You see Texas the state, is the richest state in America for high school athletes and more importantly TV sets.
Texas the University owns them all. Aggsy had to leave because they knew they could not keep up with the Texas brand so they set out to re-brand themselves.
Now if aggsy wants to prove they have out grown Texas the University, they have to prove it on the field.
Texas doesn't need to prove a thing to aggsy, Texas has got much bigger fish to fry, on a national level. The last thing Texas needs is for Aggy to have something to sell at the expense of Texas.
If Aggy want to sell that they are better than Texas they have to prove it on the field against the big bad SEC.
Texas has no incentive to play aggy because Texas has nothing to gain and everything to lose. If Texas plays aggy and blows them out, big F'in deal, Texas is Texas that is what they are supposed to do. If the game is close aggy has a moral victory it can claim as improvement. If aggsy win, then they have proof that the worm is "so called" turning.
I say if aggsy wants to play Texas, they must first put together a few years of success in the SEC to the point they are taking talent away from Texas, then we will play them, because then they will have proven to be a threat.
Texas doesn't need to prove a thing to aggsy, Texas has got much bigger fish to fry, on a national level.

I know that you're trying to be funny, but both of those teams were better than Aggy last year and have been for quite some time.

Just like leaving the Big 12, no one has given a positive reason for UT to play A&M.

At first I thought the Aggies were being btch's. Now looking at their recruiting already, I see what they were going for. They get a good coach and they will start becoming a contender in the SEC. However, I think they need to make a deal to keep the A&M-UT game going.

What about their recruiting are we supposed to look at?
I doubt they will be a contender any time soon. Sumlin was a step sideways, imo. I think Dana Holgorson made him look good.

Sumlin is a good coach. No doubt in my mind the guy knows what he's doing and will be very successful throughout his career. The question regarding him and the move to the SEC is will his style work there? Only time will tell but he definitely knows what he's doing and has changed the whole landscape and attitude of Aggie Football in just the short time he's been here.

Fran is a good coach. No doubt in my mind the guy knows what he's doing and will be very successful throughout his career. He is a better game day coach than Stoops and a better recruiter than Mack Brown[/I] Only time will tell but he definitely knows what he's doing and has changed the whole landscape and attitude of Aggie Football in just the short time he's been here.

There are rumors floating around that the SEC is considering scheduling A&M-LSU on Thanksgiving from now on (Arkansas would play Missouri in their final game of the season).
The A&M-Texas game was always fun, but this could be a good replacement.
