lol...a 20 year old rookie playing like a 25 year old veteran. The guy is more intelligent than any other rookie. Should be getting ROY consideration, but it won't happen.

Love how consistent he is every single game, even if he isn't there offensively his rebounding and defense is there which make a big difference.

Marc J Spears of Yahoo just tweeted that he needs to be talked about more.

I agree with Spears. This kid is a diamond in the rough. I just can't get over the fact that he's a 20 year old rookie. Imagine what he'll be like in 3-5 years.

He does look like a veteran out there. He's arguably the 4th best player on the team at this point.

If you want to look at who'll win ROY, just look at PPG. Not efficiency, not per minute, just per game. That's pretty accurate with voting.(Other factors matter a little bit, but per game scoring is a large predictor of winning ROY and voting in All Rookie teams.)

Kawhi has been the best Rookie in the league so far. There are arguments per minute for Faried, but They're fuckin close and Kawhi has played way more.

Irving will win, because of scoring.

Irving is pretty efficient..putting up 19/6/4/1 on 47% shooting and 40% from the 3. He's also hit alot of clutch shots for the Cavs this season...I love Kawhi tho..

I love Kawhi but have you seen Irving play? that team is garbage and he carries them night in night out.

He's a great finisher and has a clutch gene. Kawhi has made the most impact on a contender, but Irving has truly been the best rookie. He has surpassed expectations, even as the first pick in the draft

I've seen Irving. I think he's an above average player, and a really good scorer. But his assists are average and he turns it over a bunch. Leonard does things that tend to be undervalued in the market(rebounding, TURNOVERS) While Irving does things that get paid(Scoring: YAY POINTS!!!).

Also, when I say Kawhi has been the best Rookie, I mean he's been the best Rookie. I'd still probably take Irving 1st in a redraft, as he may settle his turnovers down, and he's a really good shooter. But people are saying Irving's the ROY because of scoring. I disagree entirely with that.

Which one of those numbers represent his TOs?

Kawhi's doing what spurs wanted out of RJ when they traded for him

Of course ++++ defense, and he's shooting the 3 at a respectable rate

Irving only played one year at Duke, and was injuried most of that year. Plus although he turns the ball over a lot, he still maintains a PER of about 21. That's pretty darn good considering he's a young rookie PG - better than what Derrick Rose and John Wall did in their first seasons.

I guess I don't care if Leonard is better than Irving. I only care that he be better than RJ. And he already is.

It's funny how people will say that MVP/Heisman/etc etc should go to the "best player on the best team". But when we talk about ROY theres a different standard - personal contributions are all that matter, not how well they meshed despite being a rookie.

In that light, ROY favors players that go to crappy teams. Had Leonard gone to the Cavs/Hornets/Bobcats he'd be getting 40 minutes a game and all the shots he could ever want. Instead, he comes to a veteran-laden team and is able to carve out a sizeable role and is in position to be a starter through a deep playoff run.

Who is more deserving? The rookie with the best stats? Or the best rookie among the best teams?

There are lists available thru Google cause I looked to see where he was rated a week or so ago. Most have him 4th or 5th with Irving the leader.

A lot has been expected from Leonard because George Hill was so well liked and was really an asset to the Spurs while he was here. Some folks didn't like the trade that brought us Leonard. As it has turned out, the trade was great because he is giving us adequate scoring, great defense and rebounding at a position where we were weak.
