Manhattan jewelers who reviewed the design for the Daily News said they hope not. They blitzed the apparent victory bling by Tiffany as “tacky” and ladylike.
“If this is Tiffany’s work, they could have done a lot better,” said Marc Hernandez, 40, a Diamond District jeweler for 15 years. “We’re talking the Super Bowl — this looks like a high school ring.”
The white gold or platinum, diamond and sapphire encrusted band was tweeted out by Big Blue linebacker Clint Sintim and running back Andre Brown Thursday as a sneak peek.
Eric Aranbayev, 37, a jeweler for Rafaello and Co., said the design is too effeminate to be a Super Bowl band.
“I could have done better,” he said. “I don’t know if the Giants are going to like this. It’s flowery — for a lady.”
Aranbayev said that it looked like the diamonds were 3
1/2 to 4 carats and the sapphires were about 10 carats. He estimated the ring to be worth $25,000 to $30,000.
The design features four Lombardi Trophies
— one for each Super Bowl win — with a diamond embedded in each football. A blue-trimmed diamond bejeweled Giants NY logo sits just below the four trophies.
The two players quickly backpedalled, taking the photos down, because the bauble is not supposed to be unveiled until a private ceremony at Tiffany’s on May 16.
The Giants’ Justin Tuck chimed in to shoot down the photos, insisting the design had not been finalized.
“We haven’t decided on the final ring yet. Still working on it,”
the defensive end wrote.
