View Full Version : Is Kobe still a top 15 player?..

HarlemHeat37

No trolling here, it's a legit question IMO..

I'd still put him in the top 15, but barely..his FG% is down to 42, and his 3-point % is around 27 or 28 after this game:lol..Bynum and Gasol have him dominated in virtually every meaningful advanced stat, too..

He's an average defender, and he's been an average closer this year, IIRC..

Lebron, Durant, Howard, Rose, Paul and Wade are unquestionably better..Dirk and Love are probably better IMO..

Is Kobe better than Bynum, Deron Williams, Blake Griffin, Russell Westbrook, Lamarcus Aldridge, etc?..

Last ten games, not even top 20.

Hard to say. I'm inclined to put him somewhere in the 15-20 range right now.

Here's question to lakerfans - Would you guys trade Kobe for James Harden straight up? Forget about making the trade work $ wise. Just hypothetically if you could trade Kobe for James Harden straight up (OKC is suddenly burdened with paying Kobe $30M/year, LA gets Harden's contract), would you do it?

I think if we were dealing with rational actors, the answer would undoubtedly be "yes," but the problem is you have delusional Lakerfans like Lkrfan who think the mere idea of Kobe not being a top 15 player has to be a troll post/troll thought. I'd be interested to see what he thinks.

If Lebron played for the Lakers, they would rarely play in a close game, tbh..

lol you guys aint giving any respect to the man.

i hate kobe as much as the next guy, but for those writing off what he did have never played a single game of basketball.

to struggle throughout the whole game like that and then make the last shot like it was nothing. what was kobe like 0-20 and pulls up for the last shot to win it. He has no conscious.

Staring down the barrel of his worst shooting performance ever, with the game on the line, he calmly sinks the go-ahead 3-pointer w/o hesitation. Does that sound like a mentally weak individual to you?

The way he's playing recently, I wouldn't put him in the Top 15 category.

Not in order

Lebron
Durant
Rose
Wade
Westbrook
Bynum
Kevin Love
Cp3
Deron
Dwight
Blake
tony parker
lamarcus aldridge
duncan
nash

I mean seriously, can anyone here say with confidence, that they'll take Kobe's 38% shooting for the past 20 games over these players?

as his FG% goes down he'll take more & more shots to maintain his pts/game above 20, he never cares if the teams wins or loses tbh.

if he accepts a smaller role and plays like duncan does wit them spurs, he can still make positive impacts on him but he ain't nowhere close to the "top" anymore now tbh

I always like your posts. You don't have a lot of bias. I still don't think Bynum is their best player. His attititude is a bit off if you know what I mean. Given the right role, I think Gasol could be their best player. I watch the Lakers and Pau IMO has been such a great glue guy for that team. I don't blame him for not pounding the ball inside, it seems like Mike Brown has turned Gasol into a Ilgauskas type of player. But Gasol still makes plenty of great play. I like the fact that he always looks out for Bynum in the post.

This is correct. Its not like he can't be a Top 10 player but his role as a scorer needs to be diminished. A 23ppg 6 rpg 6apg Kobe is still Top 10 IMO. At this point, ot should be about making his teammates better.

But Durant is only .17ppg away from tying Kobe in the scoring race, thats why you see Kobe trying to hard to secure that average.

Doesn't have to make a winning a shot if he shoots a percentage worthy of an NBA player.

Quit reducing the game down to singular moments.

But Bynum scored 4 straight points to get the Lakers within 3. If Bynum doesn't do that, Kobe doesn't get to hit a gamewinner.

The end of a game follows a series of events. No event leading up to that conclusion is independent of one another. If Gasol and Bynum don't play they way they do, the Lakers are never in that position to begin with.

Kobe at this stage of his career is a 2nd option at best. More of a 17-19 shot per night taker and 23-26 PPG guy. He's not going to last very long carrying this much load.

Borderline t-15. Heavy minutes maybe taking their toll. Outside t-20 for the last month, but was b/w 10-15 for the first couple of months this year.
