Wilkes and his No. 52 jersey will join Wilt Chamberlain (No. 13), Elgin Baylor (22), Gail Goodrich (25), Earvin "Magic" Johnson (32), Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (33), James Worthy (42) and Jerry West (44). All seven of those players are also members of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

So much for those vaunted Lakers standards....

Still surprises me that nobody mentions about Game 6 of the 1980 finals. Yeah, Magic had the Finals-MVP stat line of 42-15-7 but Silk had 37 and 10 himself. :lol

always overlooked ... even Magic himself brings it up often.

20 foot layups all day long ... he had that funky delivery because his sister kept blocking his shot.

Retiring his jersey? For what?

For having the ugliest jump shot in history?

Jeez...any laker fan that questioned the Bowen ceremony a few weeks ago should just kill themselves right now.

That ugly jumpshot helped win the Lakers 3 championships

:lol Bowen's jersey retired

Bowen helped the Spurs win 3 championships with his defense. You got a problem with defense? That's 75% of their total championships.

It's not like the NBA retired the number.

How the hell did Jamaal Wilkes get in the Hall of Fame? Might as well put Shawn Marion, Antoine Walker, and Glenn Robinson in too in that case.

I have a problem with retiring a scrub's number. Horry helped us win 3 straight. He won't get his number retired. Why? He's not a HOFer.

Lakers' standards > Spurs (or Boston's) standards.

basically avg'ing 5-6 points per game gets your jersey raised in San Antone ......

It's pretty hard to understand why the 1980s Shawn Marion is put in the hall with the all-time greats. LOL @ the college accolades... can't wait to get my tix for the Matteen Cleaves induction.

Coming out of Purdue, Big Dog was just so gangsta ...... didn't get over the hump. A One seed and ending up with nothing to show for it.

Goes to the pros .... 20 point a game scorer with a nice Bucks squad but nothing to show for it. Can he get in? It's possible but he wouldn't get in before say a Chris Webber.

Yeah, Big Dog put up the same rebounding numbers and more points in an NBA where teams played defense and he dropped 27 a game in college.... but he didn't line up next to Magic and Kareem so he was therefore worse. :cry

Would you put him in the hall if Shaq & Kobe were his teammates though? Or if he joined Jordan and Pippen?

that's the problem with the Hall ...... if he were a Laker or Bull, he probably wouldn't have had those numbers he put up. So he would have gotten some nice jewelry, but would the numbers be good enough to get him in? Probably not.

But if he contributed like James Worthy did for the Lakers (plus J Dub had that NCAA title as well), then maybe ........
