At first I thought he recalled he was Jason Bourne.

Doesn't look half bad. They seem to be going a completely different direction instead of a pure remake...which is probably a good idea.

"As the nation states Euromerica and New Shanghai vie for supremacy, a factory worker (Farrell) begins to suspect that he's a spy." So much for going to Mars, anyway.

Really? How is it different? I thought it looked pretty identical in terms of plot line. It does look pretty good tho, and I'd watch it if that trailer was all I had to go on.

My lone cause for excitement when I read about the cast was the Biel and Beckinsale would be a two headed, three boobed hooker. Now I don't have any reason to go see this, much less live.

Does anyone know whether or not Philip k. Dicks original short story even involved mars?

Having a bipolar fake post ww2 era setting seems more in line with dick's writing than going to mars anyways.

Most his novels were written with a similar back drop

Plot is similar but the surrounding details seem to be different..ie the Mars angle.

I do not believe the story involved Mars. I read this movie with Farrell is truer to the source material then Arnold's movie.

I hope this one plays up the "reality or fantasy" factor more.

Yes, the original story 'We Can Remember It for You Wholesale' did involve memories about Mars.

Yep...looks a lot like it. On a different subject, I fucking hate that they're doing another Bourne movie without Bourne...wtf is that all about?

I can see myself watching Total Recall....not sure about Bourne Legacy. Just can't see watching a Bourne movie without fucking Bourne.

At least in the Bourne series they leave it open for a Damon return. It's not like all of a sudden some other actor is running around named Jason Bourne :lol

Jeremy Renner was brought onto the Mission Impossible series as a potential replacement for Cruise. So in the future, he'll be the new Bourne (or whatever his codene will be), Hawkeye, and potentially the new Mission Impossible lead. He'll be pretty busy.

Which is why it makes little sense they called it Total Recall. He was attempting to have memories of Mars implanted in We Can Remember It For You Wholesale.

This is one of the few Philip k. Dick stories I haven't read. I will prob finally read out before watching this at the theater.

Leemajors: they obviously titled it Total Recall for easy marketing purposes, and the fact that Dick was ridiculously shitty at thinking up titles for his stories

You think blade runner would be more our less successful if it was "do Androids dream of electric sheep"?

I thought they might want to distance themselves from the original movie if they were attempting to make a more serious film, but I obviously don't understand Hollywood logic. You should check out the story, it's pretty damn good.
