I've been on their board for the past several days talking smack. Their "moderator" just deletes my posts.
They can dish it out, but they can't take it.
I heard Larry Brown was reminding the team about the Boston Redsox.
Yeah, right, like the Pistons are going to come over here and win 2, back-to-back.
LET'S FINISH THIS THING TONIGHT.

did you show up at the piston forum after game 4?
Pistons < Spurs

I will actually agree with you. The Pistons board is typically filled with young children. There is very little talk other than Detroit "HOMERs" saying how great we are. The Mods are very quick to take control of the baord. The most common thread you will read there is: "Rip is so hot".........
However I do think we will win tonight. Thursday, who knows. But I feel good about tonight.

Most of the time, they just post pictures of the 'fro and the mask and don't really say anything. I posted that picture of Buckweat (a.k.a. Ben Wallace's reaction to Horry's 3) on their site and it was deleted almost immediately.

There are some excellent members on our board, JoeJam seems to have the best insight and most constructive posts.
Overall an okay board, but nothing like this one. I think I have about 100 posts here and 2 on our board since the playoffs began. A tribute to Kori. :spin :elephant :spin
Overall ratings of boards I've visited since the playoffs began from 1 to 10
Philadelphia 1
Indiana 5
Miami 2
PISTONS 4
SA 10

Ya. There are some good ones, but stay hidden unless your a decent poster. All the people nowadays on the Pistons boards are bandwagoners that delight more in talking about topics such as "Rip is SOOOOOOO hottt" and "Does Rip have a gf...hes hott", and the ever famous "Rip spotting"

I was banned from Pistons.com for spouting off a few years back. There's not much worth while in terms of quality Detroit Pistons forums. That's why I post mostly at national sites. I echo Jochhejaam when he says that he's got more posts here than on the home forum. Props repeated to Kori.

Not that I'm speaking for Kori or timvp, but it sounds like you guys could think about working out some sort of deal where a FSP hosts a Pistons board in exchange for some moderation and/or financial support.
One site hosting the best Spurs and Pistons boards would be pretty awesome, and a big step in FSP's march toward world domination.

.... Imagine if there was an Internet Message Board in the eighties for Lakers AND Celtics fans.

Definitely something to think about, but I think a key to a good messageboard is the people. The board would be nice, but where would the traffic come? If it druged up the same old Piston trolls that the other Piston sites get, no thanks, you know?

The best defense against trolls is a critical mass of knowledgeable real posters who know when to ignore them and when to drown them out.
Like I do with whottt.
This site probably bans less than any NBA forum on the net, and still keeps signal-to-noise high.

Very, very true.
Then again, I don't think I've seen traffic less than 150 people viewing at any given time, and usually well over 300. I'd love to see that with a Piston forum, but you just don't see them around.

Thats right. I'm truly amazed at how well this community runs. Sure, you have your bad eggs, but for the most part the people here rock.
I would love to see such a community for the Pistons. Unfortunatley, it's never come to fruition. Which I just don't understand. There is obviously a great fan base.....but they're non-existint in the cyber world. Too many weak boards filled with bandwagoners, children or homers.
Maybe IF we lose this series, Piston fan will become a little more humble, and chill a little. Perhaps then we would see a better following on the boards.

Nah, just give Rip some plastic surgury so he is not as "hotttt" and half the bandwagoners at the Pistons board will leave.

There's at least 15 - 20 very intelligent, articulate and knowledgeable Piston posters posting at ST. You should start you own board and take Kori's example on how to run it.
From what I hear, that's how ST started back in the days where it was known as simply FSP.
Baby steps, my friends, baby steps.

What's a board cost to maintain like this? If it was worth the investment, I might think about it.. but I don't know much about the technical aspect of these things. And, one would assume that somehow Kori's making money off this, or at least not spending a lot to have it around. Any info might be worth looking into, so if Kori or Tim sees this, I might be intersted in exploring the options. I think what smeagol says has some validity.

Yeah, I wish. Running the board costs more than our season tickets. And I'm like 20 rows up from the court. But it's fun and it's a cool hobby for Kori and I.
If you want to start a Pistons message board, private message me after this series and perhaps we can expand on ShoogarBear's idea.

the T Wolves Pacers and other boards fell by the wayside.
But I have a feeling a Piston board would work.
Good luck with that.

I'm moderating there, now, and I do my best to promote better basketball discussion.
We are limited, with language, because its the Pistons.com official website. Therefore, you cannot use excessive vulgarity. That is why I delete many posts.
As said, this board is the best I've been to.

More then Season Tickets?? Seriously? Thats crazy. I own and have owned a few boards myself but their daily traffic is probably what this board gets in 5 minutes...so obviously its cheap.
I assume you run your own Server and everything, any idea how many GB's a month you use for bandwith?
I thought about starting something similar to this board for a bunch of teams a while back, and as they catch on grow to all 30 teams and host them on a few servers. I like Vbulletin, and the whole Vbookie thing and favorite team thing you guys got on here, I am used to PHP so haven't experienced that so much.
I was also curious why there are no ads anywhere? I mean obviously it could be a distraction but placed right and i'm sure nobody would mind, aye? You could probably rake in a good couple thousand bucks a month.

STT:
When I speak negatively about the boards, it is not necessarily intended as a negative to all the people there or all the people in charge. As a long time admin, I understand what you go through trying to keep it up. My biggest problem with it all is the younger posts and posters. It just doesn't have the feel of a mature basketball community. But again, I do not put that blame on you, X factor, darko or any of the other mods.

I posted a couple times on the WTFDETROIT site.
I must say, the people there are as good as any I've seen. Knowledgeable, mature and respectful. The site is well laid out too.
Unfortunately, it just doesn't get much traffic, and I stopped going there after the first coupla days...just not enough happening. With such a great name, and great people, that's just a shame.
