View Full Version : Anthony Davis reminds me of Tim Duncan

Very similar game to Duncan's at Wake Forest IMO. I think he's going to be a superstar in the NBA.

He can score, but he doesn't need to at Kentucky. He has the same demeanor as Duncan. Remember he's a freshman and Duncan stayed all 4 years in college. He absolutely IS a franchise player.

Please. The guy has elementary post moves & suspect mid range shot. His team was winning by 20 & he didn't even score a point yet. Unless you can put the ball inside the basket consistently...you aren't going to be a franchise player in the NBA (Hello Rondo or Rodman)
He is definitely a project with ceiling potential because of his size. There is no way this guy is gonna be a #1 option on offense in the NBA or as dominating physically as Dwight Howard.
He looks more like Tyrus Thomas right now than an NBA All Star.

Davis is a defensive stud and will be in the league. He's a good ball handler for his height as well. He was a PG until he had a growth spurt. His offensive game has improved throughout the year. He will continue to improve.
His defense is better than Duncan at this same stage. More athletic as well. Duncan really didn't become a dominant prospect until hid sophomore year.

I wouldn't say Tim because he doesn't strike me as a guy who is strong enough to back down guys in the post like Tim. Tim is one of the greatest post up players to ever play the game and also he has great footwork. Two things Davis doesn't have. I see Davis being a great player more in the mold of Garnett-Bosh hybrid.

We'll see. I think some guys just can't put on weight that easily and are just not built like that. I heard the same argument about KG many years ago that if he put on weight he would be just like Tim. I have been watching Tim since his freshman year at WF and he doesn't remind me of him at all. He has potential to be great player but the comparisons are stupid since his game is not similar to a young Duncan. He plays more like a young KG then a Duncan.

Newcastle is way off. Davis would easily be a number one pick next season. I can tell he hardly watches college basketball.
Davis is somewhere in between Chandler/Noah and Duncan/KG. Better than the former and better than the latter. He's the best defensive prospect in the draft while Cody Zeller is the best offensive prospect in the draft. He abused Kentucky while in foul trouble most of the game.

No telling until you see the new freshman come along can you say whether or not Davis would go #1 Next Year. Davis would be expected to make a substantial jump in his offensive game sophomore year (which I doubt will happen regardless) or people would quickly label him overrated.

Actually he showed a lot of offense against Louisville which was one of the best defensive teams in the country. Who do you think did the scoring when MKG was in foul trouble? He had 18 pts, 14 rebounds.
He did struggle offensively today, but Withey is a great defender and Kansas plays great defense in general. He still dominated defensively.

Win player of the year, defensive player of the year, Final Four MOP along with your team winning the national championship... don't see how Davis could stay in school. Nothing left to prove, accomplished everything a college basketball player could aim for in his freshman year. He's projected as the #1 pick in the draft. And suggesting Duncan was "smart to stay four years" is an unfair comparison because college basketball is much different now than in the mid 90s. Not nearly as many freshmen and even sophomores leaving for the draft. And I don't believe Wake Forest won a championship during that time. Davis will be the #1 pick in the draft, whether he's physically ready for the NBA and/or still not yet polished enough offensively, he has to go.
He'll gain some weight and get in the 240 range eventually. Seems like he has the shoulders and frame to carry more weight. I think there are a combination of NBA players he reminds me of. The Duncan comparison has more to do with personality and on court demeanor. His defensive game does have a lot of similarities to Camby. And his length/skills combination and probably ceiling does fit KG. I think he's legit. And I think he'll get stronger and will improve his offensive skill and will eventually become a star player in the NBA. Not sure if he'll be an uber superstar franchise player. But I expect really good things from him at the next level.

Davis looks like a really safe pick with lots of upside on top of that. His worst case (barring injury) looks like being a Noah type player. The big I'd be nervous as hell about drafting is Drummond. He looks dumber than a bag of hammers, he's Charmin soft, and where did his passing skills that were so hyped in his high school career go? I can't believe the guy doesn't have a post game yet when he already has a legit NBA bigman's body. I really hope the guy doesn't end up another Olowokandi, because he has the frame and athleticism of a Hall of Famer.

tbh despite my knob slobbing last season I think Perry Jones will probably be the next Randolph. They were pretty much the same player in college in that they would make a handful of NBA-like plays a game but disappear for long stretches.
imho I think Ant Davis will be the next Joakim Noah

Let me say that I like Davis. I think he is the best prospect in this draft. Sure he is no Lebron, Howard heck maybe even Irving will prove to be a better #1 prospect. But as Jam said besides demeanor I do not see Duncan. But the good news he probably handles better at this age than Duncan did (Duncan really improved his passing and handles as he matured as a player) and obviously he is a better natural athlete.
My guess is he will be better offensively than Camby but not sure he will ever be as good on that end as KG in his prime. But he can definitely have a similar if not greater impact defensively.
