Doc's teams, no matter how unathletic or lacking in offense, are always coached well on the BB IQ side of things...and I think the Spurs just didn't have the "neccessary fear" cuz they figured they could run up the score (which they did for a while). But good teams don't go away, and Pop's line-ups are still questionable...so hopefully lesson learned! Or not. :/

Funny when people say "thanks" to a comment like that, as if we played.
Plenty of things to take away from this game, like the fact that Gary Neal and Manu together totaled 10 turnovers, and the entire team had 17.
Also, the majority of this loss is on Pop.
What the fuck are you think leaving your starters for the majority of the third quarter?
After acquiring Diaw and seeing his passing ability which leads to cohesive and beautiful offense you would've thunk he would get some playing time like it was direly needed today.

They know they played like shit tonight and it'll still light a fire under their asses, and yet we still get the 'W' at the end of the day :lol
Best way to win in the regular season when you're trying to build momentum into the playoffs, IMO.
Agreed. Pop likes to throw a game from time to time to give the guys that "teachable moment". We get the benefits of that moment without the standings hit.
Still though, hard to watch, ugly win.

Pop looked clueless when they went small. Doc outcoached him the ENTIRE second half
Neal was fucking awful at PG. Put him back to SG for FUCK'S sake. Big shots though.
Was that Bonner's first clutch shot of the year under 2 minutes?
I like Green/Leonard/Jax rotating late at SG/SF.
Diaw where you at?
Patty Mills is like, the first positive/happy go lucky benchwarmer we've ever had. I really wish he had played 15 minutes, especially when they went small, what the fuck.
We got the wrong Texas PG(s).
Why stop the crisp ball movement in the second half? The offense was almost unwatchable. But the defense was pretty solid, so I'll gladly accept that trade. But I still don't see an excuse for that kind of stagnant ball movement.
I still don't know what to think of the rotations.
Love the solid defense when the Celtics were threatening and threatening. They had like 5 chances to tie or take the lead, we let them convert only on one.

They have no stars. You could argue Parker is their star and he wasn't even in the game at the end, It was Neal and Green at the backcourt. The Spurs IMO, are built for the regular season. In the playoffs stars win you games. And we only lost this game because we let them score 60 pts on us in the first half..nbd. We are legit and once Ray gets going, with the way AB has been playing we are going to be a very, very tough out in the playoffs. If Pietrus comes back too, we will be even better.
And how did he do that? Did he tell the Spurs to stop making baskets? Did he draw up a game plan to dribble into double teams and only attempt jumpshots?
He left players and rotations in who were manifestly having terrible games. He had other shooters and ball handlers and used none of them. He underplayed Splitter, overplayed the Big Three until Tony got hurt, and left people on the bench who might have contributed, but never got the chance.

Tbh, those are the type of games in the regular season that prepare you for the playoffs.
But damn.
I remember the Spurs getting out to a big lead against the Celtics and giving it up. The infamous Sean Elliott "it's over" game. Much rather see them manage to gut out a tough win when they've lost all momentum than lose it.
BTW, how about you answer the PM I sent you weeks ago asking about trades?

Spurs played the night before on the road, Boston had two nights off where they whooped on the Heat here on Sunday. Spurs played some resillent BB considering the situation. That is what championship caliber teams do, win despite the odds against you.
Starters had a 20 minutes light workout against the Cavs who right now may be playing worse than the Bobcats.
Let's not play the b2b card.
We eked out a win but the Celtics had their way with us in the second half, I wouldn't be confident going in a PO series against this team with the current rotation.

tony and manu played like crap. timmy struggled offensively, but had our back on D with blocks and rebounds. this win really showed the team's strength:
they won without good games from any of the big 3, without 3-pt shooting and without getting to the line, away on a b2b, vs the hottest possible team.
as long as no one is injured, i am happy with the win, as i am sure the play would improve in the future.

true.... ok, Leonard didn't play that good tonight, but Tiago just 14 minutes and not playing Diaw is fucking stupid. If TP has to miss a game or two it wouldn't be the worst thing in the world and really might be a blessing in disguise for Manu. This was one of the worst games I've ever seen him play. He had zero legs, his passes were all soft and lazy and I don't know if I've ever seen him this passive. For whatever reason, he just wasn't mentally prepared to play, kind of like Game 4 @Sac in 2006, tbh.
When Manu's slumping, he usually busts out of it in situations where he has responsibility and he knows the teams needs a big game out of him. Obviously the Hornets are nowhere near the caliber of opponents that Boston is, but a good game there would boost Ginobili's confidence and allow Parker to get some rest.
If it goes bad he could become the George Zimmerman of Spurstalk.

I'm interested to see the Grades on Pop tonight...I thought he was awful in the second half. Spurs were obviously dragging and couldn't get any offense going, and he didn't make hardly any adjustments. Went with two or three combinations through the half (basically the same rotations he used in the first half), none of which seemed to be working. Didn't utilize Splitter on the pick and roll. Didn't try to put in anybody for an offensive spark, like seeing if Mills could get in and knock down a couple baskets, or if Diaw could open things up with his passing a bit. And finally, closing the game out with Bonner? I know he hit the game winner and give him major props for coming up in the clutch, but that's still a bad move 9 times out of 10.

OK, just watched the game as I had to work. TP is getting his ass shut down against the elite defensive teams like Chicago, Boston, even Dallas has done a good job on him. Miami also did a good job on him in the second half of that game.
I wonder how he will go against the Grizzlies should be meet them again.
Pop has got to stop playing chokers like Bonner so many minutes, especially in crunch time.
I'm also not sure about this offensive strategy and still want DEFENSE 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th.
Our offense seems to get snuffed out against the elite defensive teams. I'm not sure if Boston have been playing defense like this all season, but the Spurs offense was totally shut down in that second half. TP looked like a D-League player out there at times.
Diaw just sits on the bench. Diaw/Mills I think would've been far more productive than Neal/Bonner tonight.... What a joke.
You're overrating Mills too much.
Say what you will about Gary Neal, but he's got enough balls for the entire team
Exactly. Neal has the fucking balls to take shots. Haven't Spurs fans had enough of players shriveling up in crunch time situations? Gary Neal's a tough player. He really needs to work on his defense, but apart from that he's tough.
This game shows why Spurs have not been a contender for years now. All this depth and Pop continues to go with the red-headed piece of shit in the clutch.

Wow Rivers basically says playing Bonner allowed them to go small in the second half and shut us down. Blames the loss on their first half defense.
Exactly if Pop had played anyone else other than Bonner they won't have been able to go small. Bonner is 6'10 but he plays like he's a 6'0 guard. It's ridiculous.

Are you happy that you almost got beaten? What if Pierce's shot went in, would you still have the same reaction?
11 April 2012. Next week. Mark that day down on your calendar.
