Spurs will be able to handle Memphis this year. Memphis was better with Battier and Arthur. They do have Gay back this year but the Spurs are deeper.

But it will be a shorter/easier series if Tiago would get time alongside Tim or maybe some Diaw against Randolph?

Dallas could still be a tough team to beat in the playoffs but they are much weaker than last year and the spurs could probably beat them in 5 or 6 at most.

I'm not sure if the Spurs hold onto this. The Thunder have a pretty easy run to the end:

Then again, if they're going to drop games to the likes of the Pacers then anything is possible.
pacers are a pretty strong team, i think they are currently the 3rd seed in the east.

I for one hope the spurs can avoid both of Memphis and LA, but it's likely they'll face at least one or both in the playoffs.
The lakers have been looking better and better every game w/ Sessions and Artest is heating up, Bynum & Gasol beasting, and lakers look like they're just starting to find their peak.
Memphis also just coming off a huge blowout win against Miami in Miami, that is defenitely scary.

Memphis, yes, the trio of the younger Gasol, Z-Bo, and Marreese Speights frontcourt, IF they can reach last PO zenith and develop good chemistry & mojo downlow, especially offensively, would be freakin tough match ups.
But The Lakers, the older Gasol doesn't seem all right to me this season, even las season. Bynum's dominating though, gotta admit that, but that's not a secret. And Lakers third big's garbage, so NO, this team doesn't strike much fear to me nowadays, UNLESS Kobe suddenly becomes an efficient & aware facilitator + Sessions catching a big, big hot streak in the post season.

The best part of being #1 is staying out of the Lakers side of the bracket. I hate that matchup, tbh, and would much rather have OKC have to deal with 'em in the second round.
Memphis wouldn't be easy in the second round but the revenge factor would be so high that I can't imagine a healthy Spurs losing without giving the fight of their lives.

Ideally, Mavs would heat up and Grizz would cool a bit and it LA-Mem would be a 3-6 matchup, with LAC-Dal as the 4-5.
Still, I think we've got some advantages against both LA and Mem. Against the former, our bench would just completely trash theirs every game and I think Pop vs. Mike Brown is more of a mismatch than the Lakers bigs vs. ours, tbh.
Against Memphis, there is the revenge factor. Last year they played as well as they absolutely could and Spurs played as worse as they possibly could and had Manu at 70%. There's no way Randolph will be that good and Tim/Tony that bad again. Also, Grizz have lost two of their best perimeter defenders in Sam Young and Shane Battier.

0-4 against the Mavs, meltdown every 4th quarter except the last when the Lakers basically gave up.
Stephen Jackson just needs to trash talk Bynum, goad him just a little, and he is done. The 7' 2" child has no parents on that team. He does as he pleases. Its a great situation to watch. He parks in handicap spots and argues with the cops, and then argues with the bench of the opposing team when told not to do so or he is gone. Great comedy. LA deserves a professional bunch for the rioters at Staples. Or one can go to a Dodgers game and get clubbed by a gang member. Perfect fit. Metta World Idiot, tat man Barnes, and now Bynum.

I think this winning streak is getting to people. :lol
I know that the Lakers are really dysfunctional and that I'd prefer playing them over Memphis, but that doesn't mean they're not a dangerous team imo.
With Blair and Bonner playing as the second and third bigs they'll still have a significant advantage in their frontcourt and if Kobe comes to his senses he'll likely have a field day as well. What with our wing players sagging to the post and all...
I'm not making any set predictions until we've seen them play but on paper the Lakers aren't a good match-up against the Spurs as it stands.

Agreed.
But the paranoia associated with the Memphis series is amazing. We are not even close to the same team. We were unathletic, old and injured. Splitter was held out. No Diaw, Jackson, Leonard, Green... We are a very different team. And we still hung when we were badly overmatched.
Personally I dont care what we are seeded. And winning streaks are meaningless. I would rather go out early if we have not gelled enough to win it all. Therefore I dont mind LA or Memphis 1st round. We have a far superior group talent wise. People just dont get that this is not the same team.
I also stream LA. I believe they are better at PG, but Sessions is not as good as Fisher on D as weird as that seems. He is not as strong and does not draw charges. Right now, they are dysfunctional. McRoberts is actually a nice addition imo. They go 8 deep imo, so that is enough for the playoffs if they can turn it around mentally.

I hear you. And I would actually agree with you that this isn't the same team. I couldn't see last year's team getting past the second round but this one could get to the Finals. That's an accomplishment imo.
I still think that Splitter/Diaw > Bonner/Blair is going to determine how far we get though. After the Chicago, Miami, and Boston games I'm not 100% sold. Closer to 75%-80% I'd say.

I'm pretty happy with how the season is going as well. In fact, I would be really surprised to see this team get knocked out in the first or second round.
That being said, the Spurs are going to be extremely match-up dependent in the postseason at the rate things are progressing. I'm having trouble putting my finger on it but something doesn't quite feel right to me.

I don't give a fuck that the Mavs shot more free throws. Every time the Mavs got close, zebras were bailing the Heat out. 2006 was one of the worst things to experience as a sports fan. Until you have experienced something like that, you really don't have any room to talk. The Heat and DWhistle ripped the hearts out of the Mavs and their fans. I have no sympathy for Wade or the Heat. Until the Mavs win a championship, I'm never gonna let 2006 go. Sorry, not gonna happen.

wtf? I didn't expect you of all people to be one of those "HAHA [insert other team here] sucks!!!! Stephen Jackson just has to talk shit and the other team will just bow down to the Spurs" types
The Lakers dont suck. They are a very good team that goes 4 deep one being a child.
Dallas fan needs to keep up with the rest of the NBA.
Dallas fan needs to remember what JJ did to Bynum. (not the other way around)
Dallas fan needs to watch the Lakers game last night.
There is no bowing down blowhard. Its about the ability to maintain composure. If you are going to misread a post I cant help you.

So sense the Spurs and Lakers cant win the west who will?
And then explain your reasoning.
With a Bynum attitude adjustment I could see the Lakers winning it. With the Spurs playing like they have been, I can see them winning the West. I do however see Miami and Chicago (healthy) most likely to win the whole thing.
I dont see a clear favorite in the West, so who is it since its not the Lakers or Spurs?

Thats part of their problem.
Ibaka tries to block every shot and gives up bunnies. We have already made him look like a fool. We have the athleticism to give Durant much more trouble. That gap has closed quickly with Green, Leonard and Diaw. And Jackson for a little attitude. Laker fans need to take a closer look at the Spurs.

He's an arrogant prick, but he's right. The vast majority of Spurs fans do fear the Lakers . . . in fact, they fear damn near every half decent team. The latest of which rising to prominence on the list of teams that it would supposedly be beneficial for the Spurs to avoid, is the mighty Rockets. Soon it'll be someone else, then another shortly thereafter.
I, on the other hand, only fear health and Pop's use of the rotation. If both of those things are working in the Spurs favor, then they're going back to the Finals.

Its easy when you lack critical thinking skills. I will not deny that happened. Our frontline could not handle Gasol and Randolph who were playing out of their minds. That is exactly why i said that had we stood pat i would understand you bravado.
However we replaced George Hill with Kawhi Leonard, Richard Jefferson with Stephen Jackson, have watched Tiago Splitter develop into a quality 5 and Danny Green into a quality 2, added Diaw and Mills and brought the rest of the core back. While Duncan and Ginobilli are a year older, Parker is playing the best basketball of his career and his jumper is back. We are dominating on the boards now where we used to be dominated.
Lets be honest, what facet of the Lakers is better than it was last year? Sessions over Fisher? Seriously other than that how have the Lakers gotten better? Brown is a serious step back from Jackson. Odom and Brown, your two best bench players are gone, Bryant, Gasol and Peace are a year older and Brown is playing them heavy minutes.
Despite Gasol, Bryant and Bynum playing nearly 40 mpg with this schedule, you guys are sitting in distant 3rd closer to 9th than you are to 2nd. You can sit there nad posture that your team is relevant but it rings hollow.
What makes it even better is that with the new progressive luxury tax, its only going to get worse. Enjoy.

Sure but by that standard the Lakers are not even paper champions. Looking at how memphis is trending you may very well be looking at a home court advantage in the first round.
