View Full Version : Popovich: take a look around

Reading about the drama in Orlando, NY, LA... with their head coaches people have got to see and appreciate several attributes that make a good coach:

1. Do the players respect and at least buy into the Coach and his methods?

2. Is the voice of the coach old and worn. Are the players just tired of it?

3. Does the coach have the players best interest in mind in terms of the team?

4. Does owner(s) respect the coach and have the coaches back so the inmates dont run the show?

5. Do the coach and GM see eye to eye on player acquisitions etc...?

The answer to every question above is a big YES with Pop. Anyone can dissect instantaneous game decisions, lineups in a compact season from night to night, more playing time for individuals on a team that is now stacked. Phil Jackson, Pat Riley, Chuck Daly, never really got "old" in dealing with players. They did however get mentally tired of dealing with players imo. All of these guys knew how to keep the message fresh and believable, even with strange individuals. Popovich has the same ability. We are very lucky to have Popovich. Even if he is an old cranky man.

Look at what NY has gone through the last 15 or so years... a major sports town that has a huge following with an incredibly valuable team. Look at what we got in the same time frame. Jesus we are lucky.

Please.

The man took two quitters (Jackson & Diaw) and rewarded both for quitting & murdering their coach. This was after he took a rapist (Neal) and made him a millionaire. Sure, the girl was no account, but, still.

C'mon.

Pop was lucky to have had two superstars with very little egos other than to win and be team players. If either Tim or David had different personalities and attitudes Pop would have probably been gone a long time ago.

Pop was an important factor in Tim choosing San Antonio over Orlando.

Exactly. They didn't quit on your team. They quit on their prior team and you benefitted from the quit and the murdering of that coach.

Well I must totally disagree based on what I see on the sideline and what the players say about him. He keeps the players interested. And he coaches the game out during the game. Pop does not face plant for extended periods without explaining what he wants. Game over, he is again human, to the players anyways.

He understands team building. This is part of the reason why the players do not have players only meetings like the drama queens in LA. Captain Fisher is gone and Bynum has escaped from the play pen.

He was indeed gifted with Robinson and Duncan. The fact this board has been up for as long as it has is testament to the stability of this franchise and Pop. Stan Albeck, Bob Wiess, Tark, Cottonball, Bob Hill, Larry Brown, not so much... Although Stan had a fun style to watch.

I also think the fact that this is a small market team may help in dissuade "personalities" from wanting to come here. Look at how bad Tim's commercials are. Except for the HEB icecream package to friends.

Jackson has never quit on anyone. He plays the game to the best of his ability. Look at his stats will show that. PPG dropped at Milwaukee after injury and minute drop.

Diaw was Diaw leading up to his being WAIVED. His second to last game was 14 pt 6 reb and 3 asst. In the game against Indy 2 back, he had 4-11-8. He was a salary dump for Charlotte.

The bold statement above is about as disgusting as you could make. No she was not a "no account human debris". She was a young lady who made a mistake. I made them, you made them and we all make them. They were given their day in court and were for not guilty. From that day on this very sigma has followed them. "He must be guilty because he was taken to court." Your entire post was wrong.
