I noticed blair and Jackson did not play today. Who do you think Pop will sit tomorrow night here in Utah? I hope Ginobili makes the trip because I didn't get to see him last trip. My hopes are not up too high though...

Kobe Bryant sat out the Los Angeles Lakers' game against the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night with an injured left shin, the first game he's missed this season.
Lakers longtime trainer Gary Vitti said just before tipoff he decided to put Bryant's left foot in a protective boot to rest the injury.
"It's very painful," Vitti said. "He's been playing with this and it's not getting any better. Really the only way to stop it is to shut him down. That's why I put him in a boot."

It's about maximizing the chances to win both games IMO. It seems that Manu played a lot tonight so he might sit tomorrow. If Manu sits tomorrow we have SJ coming back that can fill in for him. Tim on the other hand I thought should have been rested tonight if Pop only wants him to play one of these two games. We don't have anyone that can really fill in for Tim.
If Pop gives a shit about the fans then all I gotta say is START TIAGO.

Yet he may not join the Spurs on Monday night in Salt Lake City, when the Spurs and Jazz finish an unusual home-and-home in consecutive nights. Someone shouted to Ginobili in the locker room they'd see him when they got back from Utah, though Ginobili said he did not know if he was making the trip.

What's the point of throwing the game away completely. Hasn't Tony played less minutes the last few games? Tim, not sure how he feels so I'm not sure if he needs or wants the rest. Seems like Manu won't play tomorrow for sure looking at El Nono's post above. That was easier to figure out with SJ sitting out tonight.
I just wonder why couldn't Pop have rested Tim tonight? Is DB actually hurt?

With the blowout wins that the Spurs have enjoyed recently I expect Parker to play (and although he played over 30mins they were pretty evenly spaced throughout the game). Also I wouldn't be surprised if Tim puts in 20 minutes in Utah - he will have to play B2B in the playoffs. Obviously we expect Blair to play minutes in Utah, and if Pop is keen to limit or keep Duncan out all together then hopefully Splitter will be afforded the opportunity to pick up the slack.
And obviously Cpt Jack will get extended minutes with Manu out and I hope that tigger happy Mr Anderson will get an extended opportuntiy whilst Green rests his shoudler.

We have a home b2b coming up this Wed and Th that he can play in. We also have a road b2b2b next week Mon-Wed. He'll get his chances to play multiple consecutive games. Spurs have almost nothing BUT b2bs left. I think there are only like 2 singleton games left on the schedule.
Pop won't even put Manu and Tim on the plane so that he isn't tempted to use them for that 20 minutes. We'll need them fresh for the LAL/Mem b2b.

I can see where you are coming from and thought about how most of the games left are part of B2B/B2B2B. However I would not be surprised to see Duncan in Utah as Pop probably sees this game as more winnable that some of the other games remaining on the schedule - if the Spurs are seriously chasing HCA for the West then maybe Duncan suits up for this one as opposed to other games away from Texas.

He doesn't need to start. He needs to handle coming off the bench like an adult.
I like his game but he's not a starting quality big. He'll extend his career and likely perform better off the bench while also giving way for more talented/polished contributors who Tim and the rest of the starters don't have to compensate for.

pretty much agree I think he should be a off the bench big and the fifth big in our rotation come playoff time. Pop starting Diaw tonight tells me he has plans on using Diaw and not just letting him rot on the bench when you think about it a big rotation of Duncan,Diaw,Splitter, and Bonner is pretty decent front court and it would be deadly if bonner hits his shots in the playoffs.

I think that it'll depend on who we play more than anything else. Against a team like say Houston or perhaps the Clippers, I would expect Bonner to make his shots.
Memphis or Chicago? Not a chance.
What concerns me is whether or not Pop will insist on playing Bonner even when he's not making his shots.
Sure his defense and rebounding have gotten better this year, but not to the point where the team can afford to have him out there when he's not really spreading the floor and a guy like Diaw or Tiago is able to score/defend/rebound/help Tim out better.

Totally agree with your points above. You're right when you say it comes down to whether or not Pop will presevere with Bonner even when he is not performing against the better defensive teams such as the Grizz & Bulls. I hope that Pop is willing to bite the bullet and recognise when things aren't working as they should and change his method of attack.

My guess: Tim, Manu and Tony will not play tonight.

^ :lol @ avatar. That's Tiago's secret code for Manu to cut backdoor.
With Blair and Jackson sitting out, that tells me that Duncan and Manu are the two Spurs most likely not to make the trip. Since Manu took a beating and looked so bad last time on the second night of a back-to-back, I hope he doesn't play. Not playing Duncan tonight will probably allow him to play against both the Lakers and Grizzlies ... which is preferred, tbh.
As for TP, it's tough to say. Pop played him fewer than normal minutes, which could be an indication that he was prepping him for a back-to-back. But if he plays, TP probably has to sit out against either the Lakers or Grizzlies.
It's tough to say but resting the Big 3 tonight and then letting them play both games against the Lakers and Grizzlies could be what Pop's thinking.

Another consideration: If Pop is going to forfeit a game by not playing the Big 3, the Jazz is the perfect team to do it against. If the Spurs were to beat Utah again, they'd probably get knocked out of playoff contention. But if the Jazz win tonight, they are still in the thick of things and it will cause teams like the Mavs and Nuggets to try harder down the stretch.
And honestly, keeping the Jazz alive isn't a bad thing since they don't appear to be capable of beating the Spurs in a playoff series.

It's hardly a secret that Pop prefers to keep things as secretive as possible.
I'm sure that the local media have been told in quite certain terms that if they choose to publicize things that Pop would prefer to have kept private, their access to the Spurs will be seriously limited. Pop completely canceled his weekly radio show with WOAI after a bit about Allen Iverson that Pop publicly criticized during the 2007 playoffs, to offer one example by which he has limited the access of local media who don't toe the line.
I'm not disputing what you say about McDonald, but his seeming inability to report on things like this is more likely a product of his efforts to comply with Pop's edicts than it is a reflection on his ability to report news.

This would only be my 2nd game this season. Seeing Manu Play is a big deal to me. He is my favorite player. I have them listed for a small profit, I'll see how close someone will come to that. If someone comes close I'll sell them because they are expensive. I'll probably still go but get cheaper tickets.
Sensible compromise.

for what its worth, the betting line opened -3.5 san antonio and has come down to utah -2...
theres usually not that big of a drop, unless some injuries are confirmed...
with that 5 point swing at least 2 of the big 3 have to be out!

It's a good point, and I don't doubt that Pop exerts some influence over what is reported. But it is one thing to have "inside" information that only the team and the reporter may know, like an injury on a player listed day-to-day. It is entirely another when there are dozens of witnesses, i.e. people working at the airport, hotel, restaurants etc which can identify who flew to Utah more than 12 hours ago. It'd be farcical for anyone to expect that to be kept secret, or for a "reporter" to agree to such egregious terms.

And yet, we still don't know what you seek.
I'd argue that with respect to the reporter, his choice is to abide by the restriction or look for new work -- Kevin O'Keeffe can certainly give testament to the problems associated with crossing Gregg Popovich; Jeff Vexler likely can as well.

Beat writer Mike Monroe suggests that Manu Ginobili could rest in Monday's game against the Jazz.
Ginobili logged 28 minutes on Sunday night and then the Spurs got right on a plane to head to Utah. It's unclear of the aging sixth man was on that plane. Coach Gregg Popovich refused to answer questions about who will be traveling.

That is the reason the Spurs rest players when they have a minor injury rather than trying to play thru it. OH, WAIT, LA can't do that. They have NO bench to play. :rollin

Plus the Jazz aren't anywhere near full strength. Bell and Howard have been down for a while now. Neither Miles (calf) nor Watson (knee) finished last night's game. Lastly, Millsap missed yesterday's shootaround with some sort of illness. He played last night, but was terrible.

My synopsis after having BEEN at the Jazz vs. Spurs game last night:
Spurs 2nd and 3rd stringers put up a decent fight. We SHOULD HAVE won the game, but we lost a 10-pt. lead due to a few untimely missed shots and Tiago Splitter broadcasting where each shot was going just to make it easier to get blocked by which ever Jazz big man happened to be defending him.
Captain Jack was a disdainful 2-13 from the field. There were a few drives to the hoop that Stephen has that he was fouled pretty obvious on, and the stripes swallowed the whistle on. S-JAX did his typical stare-the-official-down for NOT making the painfully obvious call, all three no-calls resulted in Jazz transition buckets.
Devin Harris, can't take anything away from a guy who 'Gary Neals' - Gary Neal (Meaning he pulls up for a random 3 that the defense cannot react soon enough to defend) 2x; BOTH threes at the waning 2 minutes left in the game were the momentum killers for the Spurs and the momentum boosters for the Jazz players/fans. Rightly so. Buckets in transition; ESPECIALLY transition 3's are CRITICAL. They are the shots that if you take them and MISS them you're a frrriggin idiot, but if you MAKE them you're a MAD GENIOUS (Interesting how often those two traits coincide...)
All in all, the refs missed calls on BOTH sides as to be expected in Utah, and We missed/had shots blocked that turned into scoring opportunities for the Jazz. Spurs SHOULD have won the game, but the Jazz caught a few lucky breaks and had the shots fall that they needed.
I don't know what's MORE embarrassing for the Jazz however, the FACT that the Spurs 2nd and 3rd stringers nearly (and SHOULD HAVE) beat the Jazz starters, OR that the Jazz fans were cheering and celebrating their hollow victory over the Spurs as if they JUST won the FINALS.
You decide.
I had some friends gimme crap about the Spurs loss last night, and the ONLY thing I could think to say was, "Well, I'll tell you how it feels to be in the playoffs already..."
