To my mind, Arsenal's biggest problem is that where you should find their core are actually complementary players, or players who don't belong in the first rank in their position. The next biggest problem is the notorious lack of testicles, and its related to the first. Improve the core, and the rest should fall into place.

Whether Wenger swallowed the romanticised version of history whole, and has lost sight of the nastiness that helped make his past teams great, or whether he has forgotten the basic principles of team building, or knows what to do but hasn't the judgement or the money to do it, I can't say. In the meantime, the tactical suicide needs to stop.

When you're playing away from home against the league leaders- a team famous for their counter-attacking faculties- you don't send both full backs and your entire midfield ahead of the ball five minutes in, whether you're employing the Keystone Cops' version of the offside trap or not.

If Wenger advised his players to do that, his P45 can't come too soon. If the players cooked up that scheme up on their own, the only question is whether they are arrogant or stupid.

What a game that was. Sorry, but Arsenal can't always fuck things up like this at the beginning of important games. Hull are a solid, hard working side, but you just can't concede two goals like that in the opening ten minutes to them. I also was disappointed in the lack of creative impulse from Arsenal in the second half. Özil was pulling his Invisible Man stunt once again, Cazorla tried but had little success, Giroud had his moments but overall just needs to do more. That being said, Arsenal's last goal was a great one and it couldn't have come from a more deserving player than Ramsey - overall man of the season for Arsenal, despite him being out due to injury for a while.
Now we probably are in for another 18 years of Wenger, sigh ...

I disagree, sans Ozil those are just good players none of them is great. Arsenal midfield never really recovered from Nasri/Fabregas departure and the kids (except for Ramsey) never really stepped up. I would like Ozil-Ramsey-Arteta-(great player) midfield. The rest should be on bench, they are ok in short spurts like in case of some injuries, but i just don't see them as a cornerstone of championship team.

Speaking of injuries they should blow like 50 million on better medical staff.

On the defense Sagna departure leaves a hole and left back could use an upgrade, but it's not that critical overall. I would like to see upgrade on defense, but i was thinking long and hard at who is even out there in defensive position and i couldn't think of many names i would like and none that would be available (even with a big pile of cash), i thought i would see some new faces stand out at this WC, but it was just pathetic from the defensive stand point - i've come to the conclusion that there are just too few good defensmen left in the world. - can cross nicely
- is a hard worker
- is a good teammate
