Thanks for telling me about this board and how it works; I've just been following it since it was in the EZBoard days (when everyone from SR and ST used to post under one roof and then broke apart) back in '99 or so but yeah, thanks again for telling me about it. :tu

There is only on classico and it's River / Boca period. The rest is derby.

That is known as "el superclasico".

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supercl%C3%A1sico

Superclásico is the name used to describe the football match in Argentina between Buenos Aires rivals Boca Juniors and River Plate. It derives from the Spanish usage of "clásico" to mean derby, with the prefix "super" used as the two clubs are the most popular and successful clubs in Argentine football. According to some statistics, they commandeer more than 70% of all Argentine football fans between them,[1] with Boca claiming 41% and River 32%.

The Superclásico is known worldwide as one of the fiercest and most important derbies.[2] In April 2004, the English newspaper The Observer put the Superclásico at the top of their list of "50 sporting things you must do before you die", saying that "Derby day in Buenos Aires makes the Old Firm game look like a primary school kick-about."[3]

Did "it's me" write this?

Barcelona petition FIFA to declare possession more important than goals

Barcelona took a bold step to ensure their continued dominance by petitioning FIFA to rewrite the rules of football so that possession of the ball counts for more than goals scored. Following two important losses over a four day span to Chelsea and Real Madrid in which Barcelona dominated possession of the ball but still failed to score more goals than their opposition, they decided that now was the time to act.
"Football is obviously broken," said Barcelona midfielder, and defender of all that is right, Xavi. "When the team that just scores the most goals is ruled the winner over a team that holds the ball for the vast majority of the match only because the rules say so, something is very wrong. And it is time we correct that wrong. Because Cesc is suffering."
Xavi is not the only Barcelona player speaking out on this issue, though. After Barcelona's 1-0 loss to Chelsea in the first leg of their Champions League semifinal despite maintaing 79 percent of possession, Andres Iniesta labeled the match "unjust." A sentiment that teammate Sergio Busquests echoed after Barcelona lost a decisive match in the Spanish league title race to rivals Real Madrid by a score of 2-1 even though the Catalans kept 72 percent of possession.
"We hope that FIFA will finally take this matter seriously and take action," Xavi continued, standing on a table so he could be seen. "It is time for all other clubs to resume their poor imitation of our style of play and lose to us with dignity. After all, everyone knows that playing disciplined defense within the rules of the game and then using patience and precision to score on the counter attack is still cheating and equivalent to puppy murder. Actually, it's worse. Defending is worse than puppy murder."
When reached for comment on Barcelona's petition, a FIFA spokesman said they are taking these concerns quite seriously and the public should be far more interested in this than anything to do with corruption.

AS Roma want Bojan Krkic to return to FC Barcelona this summer (http://www.crunchsports.com/category/Soccer/AS-Roma-want-Bojan-Krkic-to-return-to-FC-Barcelona-this-summer-201205070016/)

Roma are reportedly trying to convince Barcelona to re-sign Bojan Krkic this summer.

Barca have the option to re-sign the 21-year-old for €17million this summer, while they are obliged to re-purchase the forward at the end of the 2012-2013 campaign for €13m as part of the €12m deal that took him to Italy last summer.

Roma can prevent the Catalans from re-signing Krkic next year by paying an additional €28m, but according to Spanish publication Sport, the Serie A side do not want to keep him at the club on a long-term basis.

Bojan has struggled for consistency at the Stadio Olimpico this season and has found himself left on the bench for most of the campaign.

He had been linked with Liverpool and Tottenham prior to his move away from Camp Nou, and speaking last October, he claimed he would never return to Barcelona while Pep Guardiola - who will step down as coach at the end of the month - remained in charge.

"Guardiola didn’t see me at all," he said in an interview.

"I would give 100 per cent in training, yet he’d never consider me for selection in the games. I left because of him and I shall certainly not return while he is still on the bench.

"I wasn’t happy because I didn’t play and I didn’t have continuity.

"It is one thing not to play, but another not to feel part of the squad."

How interested Barcelona are in doing a deal this summer is unknown.

Barca named world's best team of the decade (http://www.fcbarcelona.com/football/first-team/detail/article/fc-barcelona-named-world-s-best-team-of-the-decade-by-the-iffhs)

FC Barcelona was awarded seven awards at the IFFHS World Football Gala which took place this Monday evening in Barcelona. Barça was named the ‘The World’s Club of the 1st Decade’ (2001 through 2010) and the best team of 2011. The ceremony, which took place at the W Hotel, was attended by vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu, director Jordi Mestre and football director Andoni Zubizarreta.

Leaders of the 21st century

Of the 37 awards passed out tonight during the Gala, FC Barcelona won 7. Among them, two of the most important: Best European team of the decade and world’s best team of the decade. From 2001 through 2010, the team won a total of two Champions Leagues (2006 and 2009), one Club World Cup (2009), one European Super Cup (2009), four La Liga titles (2004/05, 2005/06, 2008/09 and 2009/10), one King’s Cup (2008/09) and three Spanish Super Cups (2006, 2007 and 2010).

FC Barcelona was also named the the best team of 2011. Last year Barça won the Champions League, the Club World Cup, the Liga, the European Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup.

Xavi, Messi and Guardiola win awards

Xavi, Messi and Guardiola also won awards. Xavi was named The World’s best Playmaker in 2011, Messi finished runner up for the award. The Argentine, however, was named 2011’s World’s Top Goal Scorer. Lastly, Josep Guardiola was named The World’s best Club Coach in 2011 ahead of José Mourinho.

Carles Puyol set to miss Euro 2012 with knee injury (http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17990797)

Barcelona's Spanish international defender Carles Puyol could be ruled out of Euro 2012 after being told he requires an operation.

The 34-year-old captain was sidelined for three months earlier this year with knee trouble and Barca confirmed he is now expected to be out for six weeks.

"After tests were conducted it was decided he would have arthroscopic surgery on 12 May," the club said.

Spain's first game of Euro 2012 is against Italy on 10 June.

Vicente Del Bosque, who coaches reigning European champions Spain, will announce a provisional squad on 15 May, which will be whittled down to a final squad on 27 May.

Puyol experienced discomfort in his knee during Saturday's La Liga home victory over Espanyol.

He will miss Barca's final game of the La Liga season at Real Betis and Pep Guardiola's last game as coach, the Copa del Rey final on 25 May against Athletic Bilbao.

The powerful defender has been a reliable presence in the Spanish back line for more than a decade and has made 99 appearances for the world and European champions, scoring the winning goal in Spain's 1-0 semi-final victory against Germany at the 2010 World Cup.

Barca needs to improve at the back line, so they have Alba, Alaba, Thiago Silva and Bale in their wishlist.

They should let Tello walk away if Malaga pays the right amount. He definitely does not fit in the system. Rather have Cuenca in the fold. Or just loan him so he can gain experience.

Just rumors ?

Well it's purely from Yaya:

However, Toure's long-term ambition remains a return to the Camp Nou. He told Spanish radio station RAC1: "I said two years ago that I would return. It's been the most important team for me and if they call you don't think twice. I love Barcelona.

"In the press conference I did when I left I said I would return, in life you never know what will happen tomorrow, it's been the team of my life and I would like to finish my sporting career here. If I could return, it would be great.''

In other words, if Barca are interested, he's back.

People seem to be on the hype waggon because he possibly scored the league winning goals in the Premier League now. The thing is: Yaya is a bit of everything but no specialist at any position. He doesn't have the distribution, touch and game intelligence of Busquets in defensive midfield, he isn't a central playmaking metronome like Xavi and he is certainly no Iniesta in attacking midfield, albeit he can play all 3 positions and he can play them better than most other players in the world (well, except Busquets, Xavi and Iniesta). He wouldn't be starting material for us although he'd be the PERFECT backup because of his versatility. We surely could have done with his physicality and height against Chelsea. But we can't keep a € 30 million midfielder on the bench for the odd 2 or 3 games in the season where he might be the better option to start. And he himself obviously didn't want that either. So that was that and he left. Keite on the other hand accepted to be our Keite.

The only area where Busi is inferior to Yaya is the goalscoring...also Yaya's best performances for City came with a DM behind him. Make of this info you want.

Yaya has nothing on Busquets as DM or even CM, he may have an edge at AM but then Busi doesn't play there... Busquets is clearly the better player without a shadow of a doubt, especially for the needs of our club...

I've always had discussion's with my friends arguing who was better, I said Yaya, they said Busquets. So I prefer Yaya but saying Busquets > Yaya is not lmao worthy, it's definitely arguable.

The thing is that Yaya is more flashy, he can get past people with the dribble and he likes to attack more but Busquets is more cerebral, he always makes the right pass and is in the right place at the right time.

As a player I prefer Yaya but I would argue that Busquets is the better fit at center miedfielder for Barca.

Valencia have sold Jordi Alba, claims Emery (http://www.goal.com/en-india/news/138/spain/2012/05/17/3109606/valencia-have-sold-jordi-alba-claims-emery)

The versatile left-back has been repeatedly linked with a move to Camp Nou this summer and the 40-year-old coach has now revealed that the player has left Mestalla

The Spain international has been heavily linked with Barcelona in recent months but thus far there has been no official confirmation that the player is bound for Camp Nou.

However, in discussing his time at Mestalla in an interview with Onda Cero, Emery has claimed that Alba has already parted company with Los Che.

"Valencia is a team that buys players who are not the finished article and then, when they are finished, possibly sells them on, as has happened with Jordi Alba," the 40-year-old coach mused.

Barca have reportedly identified the versatile Alba as the ideal replacement for Eric Abidal, who has been ruled out of action for an indefinite period of time after undergoing a liver transplant.

However, Manchester United and AC Milan are also believed to be interested in the Blaugrana youth academy product, who is just as comfortable on the wing as he is in defence.

Emery, meanwhile, is now expected to take charge of Russian outfit Spartak Moscow.

Hmmmmm. Barring any major turns, it seems like Jordi Alba is Camp Nou-bound.

but it's Goal.com so I still have my doubts.

More details about a new Camp Nou (http://www.stadiumguide.com/more-details-about-a-new-camp-nou/)

In a series of meetings in recent weeks Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is said to have responded positively about the possibility to build a new Camp Nou.

The new stadium would be a able to hold a total of 110,000 fans, and might be built at a site close to the current stadium directly on the Avenida Diagonal. This would likely involve a land swap with the University of Barcelona, that in turn would get the site of the current stadium to build a new campus.

The club however has also still not ruled out a major renovation of the Camp Nou, an approach that has also significant backing in the club. However, the state of the stadium that was built in 1957, and new legal requirements in terms of the quality of concrete, may point in favour of building a complete new stadium.

Construction company MCM has presented the club with a plan on how to finance a new arena. MCM has also been responsible for the construction of a new facade on a building at Barcelona’s youth academy Masia. In this, it used a special led-technology with which it will be able to show commercials on the building, a technology that also might get used for a possible new Camp Nou.

According to sources close to the negotiations plans are still in its infancy though, and at the moment all the club takes are small steps.

I totally favor this as compared to trying to renovate the old Camp Nou, which could possibly be more expensive.

Camp Nou remodel to be put to referendum (http://www.fcbarcelona.com/club/detail/article/camp-nou-remodel-to-be-put-to-referendum)

One of the key aspects of President Sandro Rosell’s end-of-year overview was the positive balance of Club’s assets. Rosell also talked about the renovation of the Camp Nou and the Palau Blaugrana and the creation of the Espai Barça.

“There are two things that need to happen, but they can’t happen until we reduce our debt. We’re taking a step backwards in order to take three steps forward. We will not create the Espai Barça and the Camp Nou and Palau Blaugrana renovations will not happen at this time. We can’t proceed with these projects at this moment, however, we will do them at a later date and the decision will be put to the Club members by means of a Club referendum. The decision to build a new stadium or renovate the Camp Nou is one we have to live with for the rest of our lives and it needs to be made by the Club members,” he said.

The FC Barcelona president said that the goal of the Board of Directors is to “maintain the Club’s assets” and that minor renovation projects for the Camp Nou (changing the pitch on a yearly basis and remodeling the tunnel that gives access to the pitch), the Palau (the dressing rooms and the press room) and the Ciutat Esportiva (new pitch and increasing the size of the gymnasium) will go forward. Rosell also announced that the Palau Blaugrana 2 will be repurposed as a new social area for the Club, it’s estimated that it will be operational within “five to six months.”

Actions not words

On the Club’s institutional progress, Rosell said: “we continue to deepen our ties with all of the official organizations.” The president revealed that the Board’s role is to “continue defending the Club with actions not words.” He lamented the “bad luck” that the referees had this past season, while stating that all of the actions taken by the Board in this regard have the approval of the team.

Rosell also stated that Club’s “Catalan spirit is nonnegotiable.” According to the president, “it’s part of our DNA and that’s why we have itinerant Board meetings, it preserves our bond with Catalonia.” He added: “we cannot forget that we’re a global Club, with over 350 million followers. We’re technology and online leaders.”

Social sensibility

On the Club’s social projects, the president highlighted the Club’s “sensibility” and he reiterated spokesman Toni Freixa’s statement that the Club will not increase season ticket prices this season: “we said that we wouldn’t increase the price in the first two years of our first term, and we kept that promise. Additionally, the Board decided to not increase the price of 2012/13 season tickets due to the economic situation that we are all enduring.” Furthermore, Rosell explained that the Club will activate the season ticket waiting list: “for the first time in eight years, the first 200 applicants will have corresponding tickets. We want this to happen every year and we want the process to be transparent.”

On the Grada Jove, he said: “we’re working on it with the Mossos d’Esquadra [police]. It will be a reality when we have a guarantee of tolerance and security.”

Finally, the president also highlighted projects that have been finished, like the creation of the OAE (Special Attention Office), the implementation of the Camp Nou Without Smoke and the Club Member Day of Solidarity, which Rosell said will be repeated “in the first rounds of the Copa del Rey.” The president also announced that there will be a “special space for the trophies won by FC Barcelona Women’s teams in the Museum. The Liga trophy won by the team this year will have a distinguished spot.”

Of course, it will be delayed for Hummels.

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/barcelona/id/302?cc=5901

David Villa (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/barcelona/id/160?cc=5739) is the best Spanish striker in history, judging by his tremendous goalscoring record with the national team (52 in 83 appearances) and undisputed impact for every team he has played for in La Liga (243 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Villa) goals, 87 assists in 471 appearances for four different La Liga teams since 2001).

El Guaje has played for a variety of clubs: Sporting Gijon and Zaragoza were fiercely fighting to avoid relegation, Valencia's target was closing the gap to the top two teams in La Liga while working towards a top-four finish to access the Champions League group phase and, since his 40 million euro transfer to Barcelona back in 2010, a team with the ultra-challenging task of winning every competition entered.

Based on the evidence, saying his performance has been consistently excellent for the last 12 years is no exaggeration.

Barcelona really missed David Villa's goals during his long-term absence last season, caused by a terrible tibia injury while playing the Club World Cup in December 2011. Lionel Messi was forced to cover and, while La Pulga went on to score a tremendous 73 goals in the process, the truth is the Blaugranas became over-reliant on the Argentinian wizard, making the traditional pass-and-move idea easily predictable at times, especially when fitness was far from optimal in the closing stages of the season.

As I explained in this previous article (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/barcelona/id/160?cc=5739), I was (and still am) convinced that Villa has what it takes to take Barcelona back to the top of world football and solve those ongoing attacking worries (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/barcelona/id/160?cc=5739).

Despite the fact that El Guaje is ready to rumble again, Tito Vilanova has not given him enough playing time to show his worth yet. The Asturian forward has only played 112 minutes and been given one start in La Liga this season. The fact that he has already scored three goals in that short amount of time should have entitled him to at least feature in El Clasico against Real Madrid (http://soccernet.espn.go.com/blog/_/name/barcelona/id/284?cc=5739) but, instead, he spent 20 minutes warming up before returning to the dressing room as an unused substitute.

Many players of his calibre would be desperate to use the media to their advantage in such a situation. Not Villa. Despite going through yet another disappointing episode, he has nothing but praise for his coach, team-mates and the club as a whole. A true professional, as shows the fact that Vicente Del Bosque keeps calling him up for Spain internationals despite his lack of playing time.

I sincerely hope Villa remains calm and focused on getting the chance he so clearly deserves. Sure, Vilanova also has Messi, Pedro, Alexis and Tello at his disposal but, considering the amount of matches Barcelona are expected to play (and win) every season, neglecting the team from one of our best goalscorers for no apparent reason would be a major, costly mistake.

Posted on a different thread but had to post in the Barceufa thread. Tito Vilanova should go eat a bag of dicks. I already hate that faggot. If Villa leaves, it's because of this phaggot.

The image shows that there is a possibility the club will reveal a kit that goes back to the more traditional Barcelona kits of the past. This season's shirt received much criticism for being a big change from the normal stripes and fans will surely a welcome a shirt which sees a return to the old style.
However, if the image is correct, there will be a section across the middle to accommodate the club sponsor 'Qatar Foundation'.
Although the kit is more traditional it does have much wider red (or scarlet) stripes than blue which will surely receive criticism from some quarters.
There has also been speculation that the club may base their away shirt on the Catalan flag for next season. The current away kit has been compared to a tequila sunrise cocktail and the recent pattern of shockingly coloured away kits is likely to come to an end with a shirt dedicated to Catalonia, at a time when Catalan independence is getting renewed local support.
Both Barcelona and Nike have yet to comment on the two designs but previous leaks in the Spanish press have usually been correct or thereabouts.
