The Grizzlies super-awesome front line that was supposed to bully the Spurs ain't even doing shit. Just like the Lakers game, the Spurs can't stop shit on the perimeter. Gilbert Arenas 3-4 for 6 points, Mayo 3-5 for 8 points, Gay is going off. Just what the hell happened to Leonard and Jackson's defense?

Only positive from this game thus far is it makes the Lakers win look less impressive. The Spurs hit some kind of wall since that Utah game.

I don't think they were ever able to stop people on the perimeter that well though. I think sometimes our smalls just get caught cheating which protects the inside somewhat but leaves the perimeter open.

I think the main culprit might be Leonard. He went from emerging star to scrub overnight.

Duncan and Splitter are hanging with Memphis's towering, intimidating, King Kong of interior just fine. But letting Gilbert Arenas pour in a quick 6 points on 75% shooting off the bench isn't a winning recipe.

Stalin
04-12-2012, 08:42 PM
spurs are labouring to make the simplest of plays, clearly, they are still mindfucked from last night's debacle, gnsf's need to put that razor away, there is still 2nd half to play, and looks like diaw might have given them some energy

Spurs are getting beat up on the boards again, although not nearly as bad as yesterday.

Z-bo still is a horrible mismatch for San Antonio (even though he hasn't taken many shots)--they had to switch Timmy on him for a couple plays after he immediately bodied Diaw:lol

TOSB will get worn out if he has to cover Z-Bo. Grizz are just a nightmare matchup for them too, like a certain someone said.

I don't even care now if the Spurs win this game. I thought after Bynum's rebound party last night, Pop would at least run with Splitter this game and see how he matches up with one of the better interiors in the league.

He's played 6 min. And the second he went out is when the Grizzlies made their run.

Bonner going 0-4 and Blair 1-3 and burning 18 mins is where the problem is.

Z-Bo's potency against the Spurs is highly overrated. One good playoff series last year and suddenly everyone thinks he's the second coming of what I don't know and can and will dominate the Spurs on a whim. Big Snacks also had a great series against the Spurs in '05. It happens.

I'm happy thus far how the Spurs have matched up the Grizzlies inside. Leonard and Manu need to get their head out of their asses.

Duncan is outperforming Memphis's scary, dominant, incredible, skyscraper of a frontline all by himself.

They might very well take out the Spurs in the playoffs. I'd even peg them as the favorite, but their frontline isn't as good as advertised and Duncan/Diaw/Splitter should be enough to nearly equalize their production. But given the recent play of Leonard, Ginobili, and the fact players like Green are still unproven, I think Memphis's perimeter, which is highly underrated, likely outperforms the Spurs' over a playoff series.

aye yay yay...we've seen it a thousand times, mid. When you're in a 7-game series where the physicality and nature of the half-court game takes over, the team with the best frontcourt usually prevails. It's hard to bang in the post when you're undermanned, and w/o Splitter getting the proper minutes, you ARE undermanned. Idgaf about the perimeter. Duncan is playing great tonight, but over a 7 game series he would wear down fast (like last year).

Unless you have 2 all-world talents like Dwyane and LeBron, the better frontcourt will likely trump you

No, it really doesn't make any sense. Explain yourself.

You said I'm "wrong about dem grizz," which in itself makes no sense because how can I be wrong about them when the playoffs haven't even started yet?
Think about it. Marinate on what you've said.

You're really having a rough couple days on ST...best sit a few plays out, Champ.:lol

This is true. All of our opinions are highly speculative until proven correct or incorrect. In theory, I believe the Spurs matchup okay with the Grizz inside, but my theory's validity is also highly dependent on what personnel Popovich employs. Heavy minutes for Blair and Bonner means the Spurs get skullfucked in the paint and I look like a dumbass, but if Pop goes with the players he should, I think the Spurs have a great chance of avenging last year's embarrassment.

You're still eating your shit sandwich from that one:lol

But remember, that can't be proven with certainty until the playoffs. Like I said, in theory, the Lakers matchup great with the Spurs. But the Lakers also matched up great with the Mavs last year. Bynum and Gasol were supposed to overwhelm Chandler, and Kobe was supposed to Mamba all over Kidd and Marion.

Just like last night. I fully expected Bynum and Gasol to control the boards, so when the Spurs cut the lead to 5 at the half, despite losing the O-Board battle 10-1, I now fully expected the Spurs depth to emerge and run the Lakers shitty perimeter into the ground. But Artest came outta nowhere and undermined that theory.

Nah they weren't better, just got hot and took advantage of favorable curcumstance(spurfan injuries and pop's panicking after lakers shit on them), if they were better, they'd still be better than spurs this year, instead of just one series, therefore its called a fluke.
