Lakers need to win this to reach 40 wins and keep the Clippers at bay.

Hoping for a good game and a Lakers W.

tbh, i really do expect S.A. to show up tonight
realistically they don't have a good record for nothing, just saying.

the focal point here is will L.A. show up. They are do for a mental lapse at some point

should be an interesting game assuming Pop plays the big tres..

Pop better not rest shit. With how the Spurs got embarrassed last game, I'm sure the guys will want redeem themselves with a better showing. If Pop shakes that pock-marked head of his and tells the big 3 they're riding pine tonight, those fuckers better demand to play. If I tune in and see Duncan, Manu, and Tony sporting suits, then it's obvious this team has no will, no drive, and no guts.

I'd be in favor of resting them if they thrashed LA last game, but that obviously wasn't the case.

If Pop has it in his mind to tank this game, he should go about it a different way. Since he believes in his heart of hearts that Duncan/Splitter doesn't work, run that combo tonight for a half. It's a win-win for him...either the combo looks good against LA's bigs, or they get beat down and fanbase shuts up about it (not that he cares what we say).

I do think SA doesn't show up since OKC was kind with a loss last night.

Pop's gonna sit the big 3. Considering how shitty they played last game, that probably gives the spurs a better chance of winning, tbh.

Agree Splitter and Diaw at least are decent off the bench bigs to throw at Bynum to see what they might offer against LAL in a post season matchup; but sign Pop will undoubtedly play extended minutes of Bonner and Blair early.

Pop doesn't want his players to get buttfucked and demoralized again by the Lakeshow so he will sit the big three in an attempt to have a built in excuse so he can say his guys "played hard" at least.

Pop will fight for the 1st spot,
if the 8th is spot is worth the plus,

True, although sitting in the top seed allows the Spurs to dictate their playoff route a little easier. It's easier to tank games when necessary than win games.

Agreed that they should play for the top seed.

But it's prob easier to win than to tank games against teams like GS who are in full tank mode and can also throw RJ out there :lol.

Plus I'd rather have the lakers play Memphis in the first round in a 4/5 matchup if we are gonna play them in the 2nd round anyways.

you guys are thinking way too much into this.

Resting players on back-back >>>> any other "potential" "fantasy" scenario.

Now since they didn't play much yesterday, I would not be surprised to see them play today. But Pop will still try get them some rest today and won't give 2 shits about the scoreboard.

A Spurs win draws them closer to a 1-4 matchup tho.

The Lakers are 2 games up on the Clips by virtue of tiebreaker with only 5 to go. Resting your big 3--especially when they didn't get much work the night before AND they are mindfucked by the Lakers--is a losing, quitting move.

Oh I agree. Just stating that a win would theoretically put them closer to a 1-4 matchup. Lakers have two games left after tonight against SA & OKC so it's not outta the question they lose the 3 seed to the Clippers. IIRC, sacramento played them pretty tough towards the end of last year too even when they were in tank mode.

I personally want the Big 3 to play tonight but i just think Pop rests them. And it'd be a pussy move, imo.

He should be. The perception last year was that the Spurs were soft, which is why Memphis tanked to get them.

Already stated many times, which prior to fluke game, you mostly agreed with. :lol

Please, lend us your insight on that one, using good basketball takes and not gnsf shit like "lol Mike Brown."

Let's hear it.

It's simple, they have the big advantage up front, but they don't use it.

Numbers dictate that when Kirby plays, the dominant front court gets less than 50% of all the shots out there. Coupled with an aging star and no bench.

This has been re-hashed many times over, not just by me, but by Lakerfan in general in these very same forum. :lol

Already stated too why the Spurs are not contenders, and why Memphis is worse than last season too.

1. Duncan get's a 5th ring this year

Kobe - 5

He should be. The perception last year was that the Spurs were soft, which is why Memphis tanked to get them.

The Lakers proved SA is still soft. If you're any of the bottom seeds and you had your choice of LA, SA, or OKC in the first round, who would you want to play?

Give me the Spurs, please.

This Lakers team is what it is. Mediocre and worse than last season.

Already stated many times, which prior to fluke game, you mostly agreed with. :lol

Your take? "Let's wait till the playoffs start because I've been wrong bout dem Grizzlies :cry" :lol

So your only reasoning for the Spurs being able to beat the Lakers is that Kobe will do the work for you?:lmao

They are built for the playoffs, but unfortunately they have pretty much no reliable depth outside of Barnes, and Gasol remains a major Wildcard. They cannot beat a Miami or OKC as currently constructed.

I disagree. I hope Pop is looking at the numbers (I doubt it) and remembering that as you said it's the first time Tim has scored double digits against the Lakers. I hope Pop remembers that our entire team was basically outrebounded by one guy. I hope Pop realizes that he can't send Tim or Tiago out against the LAL frontcourt by himself. Make no mistake. If Blair/Bonner/Diaw are the rest of our "bigs" we're done here.

What it seems like people are forgetting is the fact that there was nothing flukish about the beatdown we took last time. If we're starting (again) with Blair on Bynum then I expect to see similar results. Ditto if the big 3 sit and Pop for some reason gives Splitter the start. You have to match size with size to try and slow down their frontcourt while hoping our perimeter can do more than theirs.

These rotations and this horrific mismanagement of our players and the impact it's having on our defense (Blair is still seeing minutes after all), will be our downfall in the playoffs. The Spurs' championship hopes are razor thin even if everything goes right. Pop needs to get it together and start putting the team in a better position to win games against opponents like the Lakers.

Sure, but it's not just the coaching. As I stated before, the biggest problem is that wear and tear affects 3x as much when you're gray and old. And two of our best 3 players are in that department.

Well yeah. Let me rephrase though.

I think that even while taking age into account this team has the pieces to win it all (albeit by a longshot). The age of 2/3rds of our big 3 is a problem but the coaching is compounding that by doing things like sending Duncan out with Blair/Bonner against LAL.

In light of all this, I don't think the Spurs are serious contenders this year although beating up on bad teams has been fun. :toast

I am extraordinarily bitter about the Lakers though...I was so confident their coach would ruin everything while running Kobe into the ground during the regular season. The fact that they're playing good basketball and Artest is making shots simply disgusts me on so many levels.

I'd agree with that except in the playoffs the rotation shortens anyway. With some intelligent substitution patterns and decent sets, the Lakers can get away with playing nothing but the 6 or 7 basketball players on their roster...

I just find it funny when the fat be@ner grays play the "regular season champs" card when they are the fucking DEFENDING regular season champions. Not only that but the Spurs nowadays are the epitome of a team built exclusively for the regular season imo.

Agreed. Notice I said 'spursfan.' The team definitely needs to remember that game, and for a long time. But if Tim Duncan doesn't average a double double, Spurs have -zero- chance against LA. That's just the facts of life. If Timmy can't do that the Spurs can't win a title.

I wouldn't call the mismanagement horrific as much as questionable. Splitter will probably get decent (20 or so) minutes tonight. He averages about that on the season. But he probably deserves 30-35 against a frontcourt like LA's even of he won't always get that much PT against other teams.

Bonner better nail some shots. He's about to be cooked alive if he doesn't. Additionally, I'm all for Blair using six fouls defending the likes of Bynum and Pau. That's just how being undersized and a bottom 15 defender works. Make em work for every point, especially with no Kobe to really punish the bonus situation.

Fair enough. Tim won't average a double double against LAL with Bonner/Blair/Diaw playing with him. He's the man and I love Duncan with all of my heart but I don't think he has it in him to do that while playing good defense against both Bynum and Gasol.

I wouldn't call the mismanagement horrific as much as questionable. Splitter will probably get decent (20 or so) minutes tonight. He averages about that on the season. But he probably deserves 30-35 against a frontcourt like LA's even of he won't always get that much PT against other teams.

Horrific is exactly it though. It's too late to give Splitter a larger role or to start him. It really is. And because of that we're having another season of fool's gold in my opinion. To make it deep in the playoffs your frontcourt can't be a liability and you need more than one and a half legit bigs when you have an older guy like Tim needing his minutes capped a little bit.

Splitter with his defense, high percentage shots, and big game experience would've been enough to at least ensure that our frontline wouldn't be a problem heading into the post-season.

Thanks to the decision to not develop him, however, the Spurs are going to be dependent on hot 3-point shooting, Tim turning back the clock for 30+/playoff game, Manu regaining form completely, Bonner/Blair performing like they've never done before, and ideal match-ups all the way through.

If they did somehow take it all it would be *in spite of* and not *because* of Pop's actions. For a Hall of Fame coach, that is horrific. You don't have to win every year but you do have to do everything you can to win by playing your best players. He's dropped the ball on this one and based on his playoff performances as of late we'd be talking about replacing him if he was any other coach.

And yes I'm mad. The Lakers have a terrible coach and they're playing better playoff-style ball than we are.
