View Full Version : Doesn't matter if we are 1 or 2 seed, as long as we avoid lakers 2nd round

Pop must play the tank game every carefully, clippers need to start losing if we are 1 seed, if we are 2 seed then they need to keep winning

Spurs can't beat the lakers in a 7 game series unless they are worn down by the thunder

Harsh reality

Very true.

Tanking tonight only makes the 2-3 Spurs-Lakers matchup THAT much closer to reality. A Spurs win gives them hope of avoiding LA. Keep in mind that LA has only 5 games left and have a 2 game lead on LAC--by virtue of tiebreaker.

The big 3 need to play tonight

YoMamaIsCallin

well, this is not anything close to reality based.

a) Not only is Pop not playing a tank game, Pop is not spending one microsecond thinking about tanking at all.

b) What does it matter whether the Lakers are met in round 2 or the WCF? And how can you even think that you are controlling things so that some outcome of who you meet in later rounds is somehow made more probable? There are so many variables and so much that can happen in the next few weeks as the season winds down and the first round happens, that you may end up finagling yourself into a situation that's not what you expected.

c) No one gets "worn down" in the playoffs. There are no back to backs, there is sometimes more than one day off between games, and there is much less travel. The playoffs are much less taxing than the regular season.

Well the problem here is you beat LA twice and maybe push them to fourth, you will play them in the semifinals as a 1 vs 4 seed.. you lose to LA twice and that keeps them in third, you will play them in the semifinals as a 2 vs 3 seed.. Best situation is we go 1-1 against LA and hope that keeps us in 1st place by winning out the other games. It seems more likely than not that these 2 teams will meet cuz with 2 matches left against each other, odds are against us ending up 1st and the lakers ending up 3rd at the same time..

ppl thinking Pop looks into playoff matchups are delusional.

All Pop cares about it resting his players. he doesn't give 2 shits who he rests them against, regular season moral victories, which seed we end up with, which team we play in round 1. He doesn't give 2 shits.

Agreed.

This is the same thing he thought last season when he pussied out against the lakers and then thought he was clever in throwing Manu out there against Phoenix ...so that they could have a "rhythm" heading into the playoffs...

that seemed to "cement" his standing as a genius....

Look at it this way:

If Pop rests the big 3 (after they had minimal work) against a team they badly need a psychological edge on, then the Lakers once again confirm Daddy-Status over San Antonio.

Nothing like reaching for the ultimate prize by desperately trying to avoid formidable competition. Playing ANY sort of seeding game is pathetic.

I think you do your best to get the top seed and let everyone else shuffle where they may. When has trying to avoid tough competition ever led to a successful Championship season for anyone ?

Memphis tanked to get us and with good reason. But where did it get them ? No where. They got bounced in the following round. Eventually, everyone gets tested and overcoming those challenges is the mark of a Champion.

The Spurs had a terrible matchup with the Grizz last year because of injuries and a lack of Post game. But truthfully, they just put us out of our misery sooner than later. We weren't going win it all last year without being healthy.

So your defense of tanking is that an 8th seed didn't win a championship?:lol

They tanked to get a favorable first round matchup, and it paid dividends as they beat the fuck out of you guys:lol

Then they lost a close 7-game series with OKC. Are you insinuating that they hurt their championship chances by tanking?

You must be from Latin or South America too with that line of thinking:lol

I dunno, but I def. wouldn't complain if the Spurs ended up on one side of the bracket and OKC, LA and Dallas were all stuck on the other.

It is very probable that it ends up
1- Spurs
2-OK City
3-Lakers

I will predict that it ends up this way.

The Lakers beat OK City then knock off the Spurs is the WCF then lose to Miami in the finals. That is how it will go.

Lakers vs Miami a dream matchup for Stern and the NBA. That is how it will go.

my opinion is: the more you tank, the more you fu*k up yourself. just play as you are supposed to, don't worry about other teams because we can beat anybody. we can calculate and predict what to do, but in the end, we may make our position even worse.

Right after that game we beat two of the hottest teams in the league at the time phoenix and memphis. Fuck laying down attack the giant gary coleman get him in foul trouble push pussy pau around and let kobe go chuck mode and we'll be fine.

This isn't really something you can control because how close the Clippers now are. Spurs lose tonight and they are tied again with OKC but win tonight and Lakers are tied with LAC.

I still will go on record of saying the spurs can beat anyone including the lakers in a 7 game series people on here make them sound as if they are invisible which they are far from Id say spurs in 6 or 5 to much depth on spurs side.

Sorry, STILL haven't jumped on this bandwagon. "The General" is another story. He can be so damn... ehrmm... "random" to say the least. Hopefully (HOPEFULLY) the last game against The Fakers has drilled into his skull, even just a little bit. All we can do is hope.

I disagree. Pop plays the media like he doesn't care, and so do the players, but it's all bs.

There's nothing wrong with playing the odds with seeds and avoiding a certain team... it's called strategy. It's a flaw to put honor on an incredibly unrealistic pedestal. You play to win.
