View Full Version : Duncan shows true colors

Like a great wine that has peaked, his descent into mediocrity is embarassing to watch.

Without David Robinson, there is absolutely no difference between Tim Duncan and Chris Webber. Come to his defense all you want dumbass homers, the fact of the matter is that if we got anything resembling a good game from Duncan, we are champions tonight.

No David, no ring- PERIOD.

Last time I checked, C-Webb don't got 2 Rings!

And the fucking series ain't over yet assholes!

Nklunch, are you going to join Walton, Whottt and T-Park or what?!?

I don't know about the Chris Webber comparisons.

But if you judged his career on how he's currently playing, he certainly couldn't be considered one of the best ever at his position. And he certainly wouldn't be considered one of the top five players in the game today.

Go ahead and make excuses. But the Tim Duncan you're seeing now is not the same Tim Duncan you saw two or three years ago. He just isn't the same player.

I'm begging someone to argue this one point- no hyberbole, no exaggeration just hear me out and defend your hero;

With the exception of game 1, Tim Duncan has been either putrid and insignificant (games 3&4), good but horrible down the stretch (game5) and tonight, basically was auditioning for a role as a zombie in "Shaun Of the Dead, part2".

This is our go-to-guy? This is our franchise? This is the two-time Finals MVP???

If he was a racehorse, he would be taken the back of a barn and shot in the side of the head. His career is declining faster than Shaquille O'Neal's and unfortunately for the Spurs, they don't have another player they can count on from a night-to-night basis to pick up the slack.

Just sad. Watching one of the game's greats go out like a punk bitch in front of the world. He's been outplayed by fucking Antonio McDyess for Chrissakes!!!

Shitty loss. But thank God for home court advantage. I like the Spurs, and Duncan, in Game 7. You're right in a way, though, its sad we have no championship center.

He hasn't stepped up like I'd expect him to but you have to give the Pistons credit for that too. You conveniently failed to mention he has 2 of the best defensive big men in the league guarding him at all times. And you also conveniently failed to mention he still doesn't have that explosiveness because his ankles haven't fully healed yet. Anything else I missed?

ballhog
06-21-2005, 11:03 PM
Look at the guys defending him, the defensive player of the year and a few other 7-footers the whole game. When he's out, the Spurs suck much worse. The Pistons have a great defense and they're beating the shit out of him. If he would have made a few more free throws we wouldn't be having this conversation. He's pretty beat up. Give him a break---he's been playing for almost 20 months straight.

ShoogarBear

Anybody with two eyes, a longer-than-two-month memory, and an iota of basketball knowledge could see that his lift and lateral quickness are limited because of the ankles.

Can't argue much with that. The Tim Duncan of two, three, four years ago was simply a different player. I don't buy that his ankle injuries have anything to do with it. If you want to think that, go ahead. I simply think that we've seen the best Tim Duncan has to offer.

This was a team loss not a 1 man loss guys, Tim needs to have a monster game 7 and i think that he will, but he needs help. The problem was our D it was awful all night no rebounding and no perimiter D at all. Is Duncan the same as 03 not right now he is playing hurt guys he will bring it in game 7 but on 2 bad ankles there is only so much he can do. Remember it was Stephen Jackson who hit a bunch of three's in game 6 that got us over the hump, despite duncan having a great game they needed jackson to step up it is not all on Tim.

duncan needs to hit those fts and stop telegraphicing moves, shit. add a pump fake, where is the backing down no its back down and spin, it's back down, keep the ball low so everyone can fucking swipe at it. when will he learn.

Barry showed up thats it. manu in the 1st half than become so passive it was rediculous.

My point is that there is no team in the NBA better postitioned to win a title than we are at this particular moment.

If this team isn't good enough for you...what team is?

If Duncan is soft what does that make every other player in the NBA?

You act like Duncan has never sucked at the FT line before.

Dirk Nowitzki is a great FT shooter...would you rather have him or Duncan?

It's not only about free throws Whott, it's about the fact that with Tayshaun Prince guarding him, he defers to his teammates. It's about the fact that his lack of weakside help can't prevent Lindsey Goddamn Hunter from hitting a fourth quarter crunch time layup. It's about the fact that for the self-professed 'leader' of this team, his body language when the going gets tough screams "I need a new tampon".

Did you guys look at Duncan's numbers?

He outrebounded the toughest interior D frontcourt in the NBA, for the 4th time in this series...they just barely outscored him...by 2 points....and they shot worse at the FT line than he did.

You want FT shooting?

In 2001 Duncan had the best FT shooting year of his career...we got dealt one of the worst asskickings in WCF history...I like game 7's better than that result...

Yeah it's not easy to replace Drob? Whose fucking fault is that? The Spurs? Hall of Fame Centers don't grow on fucking trees.

Duncan had 21 and 15 tonight, so he missed 5 free throws big deal spurs still could have won.

Tim had a very good game and made plays down the stretch. Manu played poorly and really cost us any chance of winning with 2 mins left.

JoeChalupa
06-21-2005, 11:37 PM
I'll admit Tim didn't play great but he quitely scored his points while his missed free throws get the attention. But that being said I'll take him on the floor any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

Again, FT's are Timmy weakness!!! ITs not like hes a 85% FT shooter and is missing them. You cant blame him for that. Lets wait till game 7 is over before we pass judgement! Its not over. The Spurs have HCA, it will be hard for Detroit to win 2 straight in SA. I dont think they can do it. Lets see what happens!!

WTF are we supposed to be arguing here? That Tim hasn't won a ring without David? I'll give you that, to this point anyway. Every player has his weaknesses, and Tim's are FTs. Anything else is related to his lack of mobility due to the grade 3 and grade 1 ankle sprains he's still recovering from. His playing at all is a testament to his character. What you see is what you get, until next year. Guys are going to score that normally wouldn't. Deal with it.

David Robinson was not God, Walton, and in fact never evn led a team without Duncan on it to the Finals, something Tim is one up on him in. He never had a post up game to speak of, and never won the big games. Stop the Duncan hate or find another fucking team, Schizo.

I still think the Spurs are positioned perfectly to win game 7, but if it alright to critique game 6, there were several aspects of the Spurs' game that concerned me tonite. I did not see enough intensity---perhaps they were tired from traveling. And I think that Mohammed is not enough of a threat to keep the Pistons from bunching up on Duncan. Sometimes I think Rasho might work better because he has some offensive moves and his defense is better. But since Pop has not used rasho much in the playoffs, I guess it will be Mohammed in game 7. I think Parker should have protected against Billups 5 threes better. He looked open on some of them. I don't know what happened to Horry---probably tired from travelling. Barry was playing with energy but missed 1 or 2 layups. But I liked his energy.
Spurs win on Thursday.

I agree so far in this series Tim has not been the player we expect.

I totally agree with Aggie on his assessment of Tims performance.

Game 7 is going to be one of Tims legacy games.

Either it will cement his legacy as one of, if not the best, PF of all time
or
help cement the soft legacy.
