That was the impression I got. He sounded like a casual NBA fan who doesn't watch the games, but keeps up with his "favorite" teams scores from time to time.

I will say this, the playoffs are a different game, one that favors "old" teams that execute. The Spurs are scoring a lot of points by getting out on the break and executing in the half court. They can play the game the playoffs require.
But, I also agree with Skip on the Heat, sort of. When Lebron and Wade have it going with Bosh contributing, their ceiling is higher than anyone else's plain and simple. The Spurs may be playing the best, but the Heat can be the best.

All of them are ridiculously annoying. That was some of the worst basketball discussion I've ever seen on a "sports" network. Even if it's not about the Spurs, you can tell the blatant bias and removal of all fact based arguments. "Cute record". We get it, the Spurs don't act hood enough for you and you hate white guys from other countries. Why not just say that, because you obvisouly haven't watched any NBA basketball this year or last year for that matter.
I love the roll of the eyes when talking about a fractured elbow. No biggie.

Saying that we were in the same exact position as last year is beyond ignorant.
We lost 6 in a row towards the end, Timmy was hurting, we were not rolling, our best ball was played earlier in the year, and we had Jefferson.
This year, much deeper, playing best ball RIGHT NOW, everyone healthy. Shouldn't compare last years team to this years, its not the same team. The only similarity is going to be that we have the #1 seed.

Yeah, from the "moderator" no less. Plus, they said that the elbow didn't count because Gino played. Anyone here try to play with a fractured elbow? I've never even broken a bone, just had bad sprains. I can't imagine how hard that is.

This is a perfect illustration of why I don't watch ESPN anymore. Like most networks, they play to the lowest common denominator. In that whole segment, I didn't hear one ounce of analysis about either team.
Sure, they don't want the Spurs to go to the finals because the NBA has become solely entertainment. I would love for LeBron and Co to be denied once more.

I had never watched the show until today (only seen clips here and there) and I was horrified. It's like they're reading transcripts from various trolls on the internet.
Today was the day that I went from, "I doesn't matter what the media says, we keep on rollin!" to I want the Spurs to beat the living HELL outta every team we face in the playoffs! This disrespect form outside teams, fans, and the media has reached a boiling point! We're straight muthafuckin ballin! Everyone says the game changes in the playoffs as if it disregards the regular season totally!
I think any honest Spurs fan had a bit of pause about the team last year. Something wasn't "right" about that team. I have no questions about this team. We can win it all, it's just a matter of doing what we're capable of doing! We're gonna destroy the NBA this post season!!!

Bayless is as much a dumbass as Screamin' A-hole Smith. I don't understand why anyone would watch that shit.
I want to ask those guys saying OKC will win the west, if they will trust with their`s right hand in Russell Westbrook shootings ? Simply as that. OKC lost random series, and Westbrook cost them ,let say, 3 games with poor shooting, those morons will get their right hand chop off. I`d trust with Kobe, Parker, Paul, Durant, Manu, Dirk but not this selfish clunker.
WWWW. Westbrook wont win west.

Wale dudes argument is that the Spurs regular season record is cute but the game changes in the playoffs. Hello motherfucker!!! Spurs have been there and done that. They know how to win in the playoffs and or comeback from losses in the playoffs and withstand runs. That's what a veteran championship team does. As long as they are healthy Spurs can whoop some ass in the playoffs. Its not the same team from last year.
Whats funny is that you can flip that bullshit argument on it's head. Hey Wale, Thunder's record is cute and shit but it's a different game in the playoffs bitch. Until the thunder make it to the finals they don't deserve the respect their getting. Fucking chuckers are gonna get bitch slapped.

That Wale dude is effin' annoying. Yawning at the potential Jazz-Spurs series and said he would rather watch paint dry is disgraceful. And it all stems from ESPN in the first place. I've never seen such blatant dissing on one franchise before. Even last week when Manu had that terrific pass in the Laker game, that play did not even make the top 10. Is it because Duncan doesn't have a big ass mouth? Can't be because Rose is even quieter. Is it because Manu is a white foreigner? Can't be because Nash is consistently applauded. I just don't understand.

The critics need to realize the Spurs' style of play has been revamped entirely from those earlier "boring" teams.

I could care less what ESPN says. Its going to be a self-fulfilling prophecy if somehow this teams continues its hot streak until the finals. They'll bitch and moan about boring basketball being played by the highest scoring team in basketball. They'll talk about not enough defense being played, ironic. (loved the hoodrat yawning at the Utah-SA series saying he'd boycott it. I'm sure it'll be played on ESPN :lol) They are the main NBA outlet and they trash all the teams outside of NY/Boston/Miami/LA. If Lebron wasn't in Miami, they'd get the same treatment too.
I'm praying for a SA-Indiana ABA-style Finals. 121-110 games with tons of up and down play and 3-point shooting. That'd make their head's explode!

National media never has, and never will, respect the Spurs.
The Spurs earned a level of disrespect by being a 1 seed that lost to an 8 seed last season. There's no denying that.
Anyone calling the Spurs old is obviously not familiar with this year's team. They're just going by reputation.
Anyone calling the Spurs boring is obviously not familiar with this year's team. They're just going by reputation.

Good point with LA. If they were picking the lakers at least I can understand. Regardless of how spur fan feels about them they are always contenders and are in a similar boat as the Spurs. Perennial contenders who have actually cashed in. The thunder haven't done a fucking thing. I guess it's a convenient choice because maybe some of the pundits see the Lakers in a possible decline while the Spurs reloaded and can't see them selves giving props to SA. So they slob all over the thunder. I used to be indifferent about the thunder. Now they're getting unconditional support without having to prove anything. I can't wait to see this team chuck them selves out of the playoffs.

Saying that we were in the same exact position as last year is beyond ignorant.
Now that, I would argue with. This Spurs team IS in the exact same position as last year's team. Do you really expect people to remember that last year's team lost 6 in a row toward the end? Heck, I'm a die-hard fan, and even I don't remember that. What I remember about the 2011 Spurs is they:
kicked ass in the regular season,
had Matt Bonner as a significant part of the rotation,
got the number 1 seed,
then lost in the first round.
The 2012 Spurs:
kicked ass in the regular season,
have Matt Bonner as a significant part of the rotation,
are about to get the number 1 seed,
then ... TBD.
So to say they are in the exact same position is very accurate. Fortunately, the Spurs are healthier and much improved down low with Diaw and more playing time for Splitter. And with Parker playing the best ball of his career, the sky's the limit.

I would say as a "die hard fan" I would expect you to remember the poor play of the Spurs after the spanking the Lakers gave them late in the season, losing 6 in a row, Manu's elbow being hurt, sudden change in starting lineup, and no nuts Jefferson missing wide open 3's. All that being said I think they could have gotten to the second round if not for Manu's elbow, I don't think they would have gone any further.

I even knew last year's team was somewhat overrated. They didn't play the D that they do now (not top 10 this season, but it's absolutely better with the additions of Jax and Diaw), they weren't as deep, they were rolling early in the season and faded after the AS break. It all had the symptoms of a meltdown in the playoffs. This season, I can say I am 100% more confident in this Spurs team going into the postseason than I was last season. No doubt in my mind, we're making noise this year.

Everything changed last year when, here it comes ST, Pop swapped out Blair for Dice in the starting lineup. And like a poster said on here earlier, I too wasn't 100% set because I felt something just wasn't there despite us owning the #1 seed.
This team has got that Championship look in their eye. When we got humiliated by LA on our home floor, loved how Duncan reacted afterwards and then backed up his talk. This team fears no one, but respects them all. Keep the train rolling baby!

None of them used any real facts to support their shtick. The hoodrat guests are typical casual NBA fans that don't know the game well (or just let their bias get the better of them) while Skip is just trying to be hip and pick the team nobody likes. I generally like Skip because, despite the fact he more than likely isn't a true Spurs fan, we have the same opinions on many topics, but it's getting out of hand how he tries to support his views. Also, if the Spurs get to the finals they're winning it: Heat will depend too much on Lebron and Wade playing like MVPs every game, while the Bulls have little championship leadership (though Rip's been there) and their best player is a PG.

Why do you guys watch that garbage? I quit watching ESPN awhile ago! The idiots that call the Spurs boring, still do....its mainly due to them not watching the games at all. One of the few teams out there that can/will put 120+ on ya and not have a single dunk in the game...The spurs "style" isnt all that re-vamped either...they still share the ball as good as they ever have, but dont play as good of D. In turn they have to score more on O to compensate for the lack of D...thats really all there is to it..everything else is the same- I must be odd though..I have a blast watching this team!!

Exactly. I dont know if anyone else agrees, or maybe it's the homer in me, but I never thought the Spurs were boring, even during the first Championship.
Go back and watch the Memorial Day miracle, how the f was that boring, The Twin tower suffocating D. In 2003 Manu wowed with his crazy plays that we werent used to. Manu's takeover in 2005 against the Pistons..I mean i never thought they were boring at all.
It was all just what ESPN put in viewers heads and the sheep followed and now it's just popular to say, that we are boring. We are more efficient in my opinion than the Suns offense of years past that got so much attention.
How the f are we boring? No locker-room drama. No Hollywood story-lines, thats what its about. They dont want to give credit to a Hispanic town. Thats why they hate on the town itself, Riverwalk, etc.

I can understand someone who doesn't ever watch regular season basketball to buy into that shit, which is why the ratings for the Finals are bad in the US, but for someone claiming to be any kind of NBA fan to say it is retarded. They didn't bitch about defense when Pat Riley and Jeff Van Gundy were playing 72-65 games in the playoffs. :lol

1. Anyone who watches this show is a moron. It's designed for people to debate with Skip. For all you know Wale loves the Spurs but producers told him to act like he thinks they suck so that he can argue with Skip, which produces "compelling" TV. I'm almost positive some producer fed him that "cute" line just to mock-enrage Skip, just as I'm positive they told the dumb blonde to lay it thick with how the Spurs bore her. It's all for show. Everyone on the show is suppose to be anti-Skip's opinion. The format is designed for it to be his opinions vs. the world.
2. Even if Skip is technically on our side, you people have to realize he isn't a Spurs fan for the right reasons. He's a contrarian. His viewpoint will be to always go against majority opinion. He only "likes" the Spurs (or pretends to) because everyone else hates them. If everyone in America loved the Spurs, Skip would like the Lakers, so please stop giving him credit for being on our side. It's just all shtick.

They argue just for the sake of arguing at times, but Skip honestly knows his stuff about the Spurs. He has repeatedly thrown ESPN and First Take under the bus for not talking about the Spurs more. He knew Splitter's value to the team going into the season, he knew how important the acquisitions of Diaw and Jackson were to this team, he applauds Tony for the best season of his career. He says he watches many of the Spurs games and I believe him.
I think that Skip gets in trouble when it comes to football. But when it comes to basketball, I can honestly say he knows his stuff.

Why argue with a rapper?? What's his IQ ?? 10 maybe 12 on a good day?
:rollinRatings have nothing to do with the discussion. Morons. Can't believe they get paid to be on national television.
Unless they DO.
Many buy into the "NBA is rigged" theory; that the league specifically favors large market, good ratings teams with favorable scheduling, and even in game officiating to bolster their chances at advancement. If the Spurs are all but guaranteed to deliver historically low numbers, then that bias will be exaggerated. That could give a conspiracy theorist (or, in fact, a conspirator - dude works for ABC after all) reason to expect causality between low ratings and a chance of success.

Well he is riding us all the way to the Finals then he has Miami. But, that was his preseason pick. I think deep down he knows we could beat that Miami team right now. He just wont change his preseason pick. He is absolutely right that the Spurs are playing better than anybody right now and it is all about keeping the momentum going in to the playoffs.

i think skip is the only one who even watches NBA games with any regularity. predator guy probably watches only highlights. nice cover to say he loves the cities but just hates the teams. just in case his no name rap act ever has to place a gig here.
i LOL'ed at "predator guy." in fact, im laughing as i type this. kudos.
but seriously, in that entire video, there was not ONE inaccuracy in skip's comments. whether its on first take, any sports show, or talking to any non-spurs fan, its the same answer. "well they were #1 last year and lost in the first round." this whole "last year" argument is completely bogus. by that logic, everyone should predict the mavs to win the championship because they won last year. this spurs team is very different than last year. green, splitter, diaw, jackson, leonard. it just so happens we balled in the regular season. that shouldn't be considered a bad thing

I agree. It is easy to say we are deeper this season, but if you look at each position and it's depth we really are. Every player from last year is just playing better this year, especially toward the end of the season. Just like Skip said "no team is playing better than the Spurs right now." Everything seems to be clicking, and there is no reason to believe it will stop barring an injury.

Overcoming a size disadvantage remains a potential problem, but it's not nearly the problem it was last year, especially when the Spurs entered the postseason playing their worst ball of the year.

No biggie.
This is an excellent take. I agree and appreciate how well you articulated your point.
