View Full Version : Injury Thread: Gary Neal Injured Shoulder/Neck/Collarbone vs. Blazers

timvp

Was really hoping we were done with these threads :td

For those not watching, Gary Neal got leveled by a Kurt Thomas screen and left the game. He was favoring his shoulder/neck/collarbone area. He went to the lockerroom with Will Sevening ... and neither returned to the bench. (When Sevening is gone that long, that usually indicates X-rays are being taken.)

If Neal is hurt, let's hope it's something that can heal before the first playoff game ... which means in the next four or five days.

My initial reaction was that he sprained his shoulder based on the way he stiffed up his arm and that he was babying his arm area after the play.

If that's the case, he should be ready come playoff time.

sad news, but better neal than ginobili.

the playoffs are here and pop will give tony and manu more time on the court anyway, so the PG position is taken care of. the rest of the time, some combination of green/sj/ginobili would take care of SG.

I know the Spurs wouldn't want to pull him away from the Toros while they are playing in the Finals...but they might have to.

Tony and Manu shouldn't play the next two games, and if Neal is out....you can't run Patty 48 minutes.

Definitely was not a dislocation, or his arm would have been dangling lifelessly and he woulda been writhing in pain

FSW still waiting on an update. After watching their replays though....Neal seemed to be walking pretty well back to the locker room. He wasn't holding his shoulder and didn't seem to be in too serious of pain...left arm was swinging pretty freely and normally.

May just blind optimism, but hopefully they are just taking him back for precautionary measures.

Hopefully its not that at all. A sprained shoulder would mean a torn rotator cuff which would mean Gary would be out for a while, but by the looks of how he was hit it looks more like he jammed his neck. If that's the case, he'll be sore tomorrow but will be fine come this weekend.

This team and their damn injuries. It makes the final few games of the regular season unenjoyable, tbh . . .

I know. Maybe they should just sit the big three and Splitter in the final three games, run Blair, Mills and Anderson into the ground and spread the remaining minutes around amongst the others. Seriously, just flat out not take any chances. With their luck, someone will still get injured, but at least that ensures that it won't be one of their four best/most indispensable players.

roy, Splitter is fine. Pop was just resting him. By his standards, he's played a good amount lately and will probably play a good amount in the final two games as well.

IIRC, I've seen players get diagnosed with sprained shoulder only to come back a few days later. They have some crazy medical procedures nowadays that make it possible.

I've personally suffered many sprained shoulders in my high school days - so I know that its possible to feel physically comfortable in as little as 2 weeks. For example, I made the retarded decision to play basketball again after 2 weeks and hurt my shoulder even worse.

Anyways, I'm glad its just a stinger. No reason to sit him for the next two games IMO, we need him to play filler minutes for Manu and Tony.

Great story bro. Did you get poison ivy? Didn't think so.

In all seriousness, since we're sharing personal medical histories and all, I had arthroscopic knee surgery to remove a bone chip from my knee in 2008 and two weeks later was white-water rafting in the Swiss Alps.

I watched it in slow motion a few times. His neck snapped pretty hard, and his arm looked like it was dead limp as he went to the floor. (It's like having your arm or leg fall asleep - it feels dead.) They won't put him on the floor until any weakness is gone.

Stingers can hang on for days or weeks. Usually the worst is over pretty quickly, but the pain and weakness (especially the weakness) can hang on for a while. You sure as hell don't want to get repeat injuries to a nerve. I'd be surprised if he comes back next game, regardless. They've locked up the West, and I would just expect to see them rest him a game as a precaution.

Agreed. Meant to say that if he's healthy* he shouldn't sit out the last two. He should definitely rest and prepare for the playoffs if hes feeling any lingering pain. I wasn't aware that stingers were that serious and can linger for a while. So I would probably err of the side of caution as well and have him sit out the final two.
